Nice footage, but I always watch these with the sound turned off because of loud obnoxious music. Why do you think people would want to hear that instead of the ACTUAL commentary of the broadcast. Turn the music down please!
I was hoping to see more footage with the pace cars in the frame. Caught a brief glimpse of the '75 Buick Skylark, and could see the '77 Olds Delta from far away.
Oh, and the '71 Challenger went flying by on it's way to infamy. Meanwhile, the cameraman stayed focused on the flagger like a pro.
thanks for putting these together--I had the same idea!, too bad there isn't a single shot from the same spot of the turn one grandstands and too bad we can't have every year.
I can't give this video 5 stars because TV in the '70s was broadcast in 4:3, not today's 16:9; therefore, something is distorted everything either appears a) Fat or b) cropped at top and bottom.
the guy in 73 , who ends up in the end of the straight upside down , anybody knows his name ? did he die ? cheers from brasil

Song is from "The Need for Speed SE" [1996] called "Rampant", damn good choice.

I can't believe "pannoni1" gave a snotty comment about the quality of these historic images. THIS WAS A GREAT POST!
I'm going to my first Indy this year (section H, near the pit entrance on the straightaway) - I'm nervous already!

I know, what's that guy talking about? Alot of these starts I've never seen before, especially the ABC-TV videotape.

4 stars, the only flaw is that 1978 was left out.
