  • That statue is a beautiful piece of art, I'm glad it's still there today :-)

  • Regarding coming here legally, its pretty easy to just say "why dont they just come here legally?". But do you actually have any idea of how hard it is for some of these people to get a passport/VISA from the Mexican government? Its a long process and very few people meet the qualifications required.

Usually the ones that get these passports are university students and the wealthy, in other words the people that arent struggling. They usually just use them to tour the country.

  • "Ah, ah,

We come from the land of the ice and snow, From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.

How soft your fields so green, can whisper tales of gore,

Of how we calmed the tides of war. We are young overlords."

  • wait is this still there? i know ive seen a statue on campus in that location but i dont know if its the same one never paid much attention to it.

by the way that morales chick is a moron and a disgrace to mexican-americans, she's likely in this country as a result of illegal immigration yet she's over here talking shit about them. most of yall are clueless about it too yall act as if migrating illegally is a choice for these people, usually its that or starve.

  • @sa78223 Actually, believe it or not, some Latins actually come into this country LEGALLY. I know it's hard for some people to comprehend. My family came here legally and we want something done with our borders. Of course, the illegal aliens from mexico are trying to ruin the party for everyone by coming here in hoardes. C'mon quit making it hard for the other people in the world to get here LEGALLY. We can't let the whole country of mexico in, be reasonable.

  • Tiberius, Im one of those people. I came here legally very young, grew up here, and now Im attending UTSA. Guess what though, that wouldnt have been possible if my father hadnt crossed illegally and if it wasnt for the amnesty during the early-mid 90s. Thats the case for alot of Mexican people here in Southern Texas as well, even if we arent illegals we're here directly bc of illegal immigration. So to see someone like this Morales chick advocate against it is just plain hypocritical and stupid.

  • I don't think this statue advocates a illegal act. It is simply representing part of the history of South Texas.

  • that's f**** up....how did your family come to this country, morales??

    bitchin conservatives

  • @kannibaleinzivil88 She came here legally, like most people did in this country. Not by jumping borders illegally and undocumented like the Mexicans have done in recent history.

  • Comment removed

  • I just dislike the statue because I don't like the style of it. I could care less about what it represents.

  • Didn't Alberto Gonzales' grandparents come here illegally?

  • lol go to southern Cali and you'll see the "immigrant crossing" signs along the freeway lol. Keep the statue

  • haha how gay i walk past that thing everyday and i dont give a fuck... keep the thing

  • Its the ultimate double standard. Every country in the world deports. Mexican immigration deports thousands of hispanics from south and central america, every year. These people are not even trying to reach Mexico, they are trying to get to the US, yet Mexico still deports them and with very poor treatment, no courtroom and very little food. But you dont see people protesting over there, do you? It is a crime because this country said so. Do we need permission from Mexico to make laws?

  • This statue is promoting something illegal. It shouldnt be there. We can argue back and forth wether illegals help or hurt the economy. In the end, it is a crime. I am part hispanic too, but my father had to wait 8 years separated from his father for a greencard to come thru the legal way. All over the world, there are thousands waiting for legal papers, illegals just jump the line. Look at Mexico records, they deport thousands of hispanics too, why isnt noone saying anything about that?

  • The statue indicates influence on TX culture. Appreciate it. YCT I understand you're trying out your edu & purpose. But its a big world. Go after small fish often & you'll look crazy. Once you look crazy in the public's eye, you'll be labled extremist & no one will take you serious. No far left, not far right - conservatives. Don't get upset. I am UTSA alum, I am a conservative. I'm saying don't spin your wheels in the mud. Tackle big issues that need the attention more.

  • bitch... its not the Rio Grand... RIO GRAN-DAY! white people were the first illegal immigrants when those americans illegally went into mexico and started the mexican revolution because they wanted the land. fuck yall we keeping the statue

  • Can we erect a giant statue of Hernan Cortes also to symbolize Spanish influence in Mexico?

  • you are comparing apples and oranges. are you insinuating that these "illegals" are coming over here to over throw the government? and yes you can build a giant statue of someone who stole the land from someone else... we call ours Mount Rushmore. so it would be pretty much fair game to build a Hernan Cortes statue if you wanted too. oh and i am pretty sure they have hundreds of statues of Christopher Columbus as well. he and those guys on rushmore stole land from the native americans.

  • Yes, but not everyone from Mexico and S. America can truly say that America stole their land from the ancestors since many are the descendants of the same people who over threw them. La influencia de la inmigracion ilegal no es creada por el deseo de ser Americano pero por el deseo del dolar y eso es la verdad. I hope you understood what I said considering that like Laura Elizabeth Morales I am a Hispanic American who opposes illegal immigration.

  • i am half mexican american half white, but of course they only want to come over here for money. but i dont see why people even care... they are not taking from social security, they are actually giving to it. to get social security you must have a social security number which means you must be a citizen yet they still pay for it. idk but to me that sounds good for the rest of us. and do you really want to work in a field picking cherries like that man who got killed up in new england.racism man

  • Laura Elizabeth is a sellout to her own race. The bitch just needs to wear a blonde wig and get blue contacts. I bet she wouldn't be where she is today if someone in her family crossed the Rio Grande sometime in the past.

  • Typical insane Leftist resorting to personal attacks instead of using logic!

  • Ok, lets use logic. How many businesspeople and farmers do you hear complaining about "illigal" immigration? None! Lorplaid you benefit more from "illigal" immigration than you will ever know. Immigrants put more into the economy than they pull out. "But they are criminals" That is your response right? Anglos killed Native Americans, enslaved Blacks, and killed anyone who wasn't like them.

  • So we should hold employers accountable for exploiting these people.

  • Notice how she didn't answer the question about someone in her family crossing the Rio Grande back in the past.

  • @lorplaid Exactly, and stop bitching about a statue.

  • @lorplaid oh come on, typical insane leftist. this tactic, personal attacks, is used by everyone....

  • How about a staute paid for by NAMBLA showing a smiling middle-age guy massaging a pre-pubescent boy? I am sure the PC crowd would drool over that.

  • okay that was stupid

  • We need a murder statue at my school so I can start promoting that murder is ok.

  • and we need a statue taht promotes close minded ignorance so every one else can be okay with it...have a fuCkin heart

  • This is just stupid. It's a statue. It's art. People would be pretty dense if they pretended illegal immigration is not part of our history. It's how a lot of the Hispanic community came to San Antonio. Taking down the statue would be like ripping entire sections of history books concerning slavery, Jim Crowe Laws, racism, along with women's struggle for equality.

  • Maybe a "balancing" statue showing the hoards of Europeans arrivng at Ellis Island, NY (from 1800's) would make people more at ease. They came legally, however, there was The vast Atlantic Ocean holding them back, (not the narrow) Rio Grande River.

  • The legal details depend on the year; immigration laws have differed dramatically. Ellis Island wasn't a completely free landing dock. The first immigration station was constructed there near the end of the century. It burned down and tons of immigration records from years prior were lost. The station was rebuilt. So, yes, Ellis Island was a huge port of entry, but it wasn't without some form of regulation. Since the first big waves in the late 1800s regulation was called for.

  • It's amazing how people can just ignore the fact that illegal immigration is illegal and just because a lot of people do it does not make it okay.
