Hi dede med great recipe I was just wondering how to store these baklava. I made them once and the next day they were so soggy it wasn't at all good! Also is it okay to store in a closed container
@Fabulousfoodwithme Yes you should store it in a closed container, they shouldn't be soggy, if there is excess syrup in the pan then you need to pour it out or but the baklava in a different container. Hope this helps :)
hey maybe it sounds funny, but i wanna know whats the flavor of phyllo? not sweet rite, so i can put savoury fillings inside like corned beef/cheese/smoked beef? thank you ^^
@brounn correct, the phyllo is NOT sweet. You can definitely use it for savor items or meat. Check out my sambousek recipe, it is phyllo stuffed with meat :)
My husband loves these sweets so much and we had to spend a lot of money to buy them, i was looking for an easy yet great recepie, yours is by far the best..thanks..very happy..
@16dayhana hello, it is called phyllo dough, it can be found in most grocery or Meditteranean/Middle Eastern markets, usually in the refrigerator or freezer :)
no way in HELL am i telling my frends where i got the recipe frm!...wats the point of u impressing them if u tell them where u got it frm and then all of a sudden ur not the stud kook anymore..lol
@AustralianBeauty95 thanks so much for the sweet comments, i'm glad you like my recipe videos...one day soon maybe you'll see a show for Dede on the TV :)
Somehow i thought that this would be more complicated than it really is, i checked out your site btw! so happy to have found you! :D i hope you get a show!
@Agentjamaica Yes, that is why you should keep the dough covered with plastic wrap or a lightly damp towel until you are ready to use it. You need to butter it fast so that it does not dry out :)
I love Baklava! Thank you for the tutorial. I look forward to making some very soon so I can quit looking like a crazy person buying all the time at that one mediterranean food stand at the mall. Lol It's my new fav. dessert!
Hello, thank you very much for this great tutorial! would it work out to combine walnut AND pecan? also...i missed the recipe for the simple syrup...where can i find the directions? thank you so much!
Yes you can definitely mix the walnut and pecan, you can mix or use anything you like :) all of the written recipes are on my site, check it out and let me know if you have any other questions :)
Fantastic series of videos!! All of them are great. I found you by searching "Baklava" as I'd like to try making it and wanted a how-to video. (Guys don't read directions..... you know how we are....) I have subscribed to your channel.
Just a few suggestions, Im a pastry chef at a Lebanese bakery and what I do when I make Baklava is instead of butter, try using vegetable ghee (similar to shortening) and layer everything dry, without adding the butter/ghee and add it afterwards. This makes cutting it easier. If you use my method, I would avoid a serated knife since a dry phylo dough would get shredded.
Thank you . And you are absolutely right. But my viewers do not all have access to ghee. That is why I use the butter in the video. But now my viewers will see your comment. Again Thanks.
I cannot wait to try your recipe! I love love love Baklava! I was born in Cuba but love mediterrenean cooking. Baklava is my absolute favorite dessert! Will make it soon and my boyfriend will be the judge! Thanks! :)
My boyfriend always talks about the Baklava her sister brought back from Dubai. Now that you have taught me how to do it, I am going to bake him the Baklava straight from my own kitchen. Thanks Dede!
Omg dede this recipe was great, tried it today!, Ihave never been a lover of baklawa, but this has made me a convert!!! I just decided to join your webpage, for more recipes, and now my mother law will eat her heart out! She's gonna realize bosnians aren't the only ones who can make baklawa!!! many many thanks! I am puerto rican, and i accomplished all their recipes except this!!!! thanks! the kids love it
Yeah but thanks, i just tried to make that with my sister as that was our first try so it just baked a lil bit more then normal but it was cool! liked it...Thankyou soo much and yeah keep the good work up!
I would say using less saturated fat butter. you really should use butter for making baklava. If you must you can replace it with margarine, I hope this helps you to enjoy this dessert :)

Interesting how you stack the cut phylo layers on top of each other as you butter them one by one. This effectively keeps them from drying out as you go. My only concern is that you have so much melted butter left over by the time you start cutting the squares. Is there any way to approximate how much you'll really need before you begin?
