If you do a DNA test, it shows they are all the same. Just minor differance from cross breeding. the closest thing to true breed was almost hunted to exstintion in the late 1930"s? Which is the wolf class in Japan.
If you love your Akita just the way it is. then that's all that counts. Enjoy them while you have one. Mine died new years day at 11 years old.
you can find the japanese version in any color... only certain colors are allowed in the show ring.... wish people would resurch before posting. Their body shape doesn't fit with the american stock... the american akitas tend to look overly bear faced and bulky. These two have a nice sleak line to them and if you notice in the vid the darker stripe in the collored sections of fur.

umm whom ever told you about long haired akitas is obviously connected to a certain breeder in Oregon/California (heard about her in both places) who has mixed lines with chow and advertised them as akitas. And if you have seen the two types show stock next to eachother you would notice a vast difference... it is because of the cross breading that the breed suffered here in america. yes I know my spelling is horible.. arthritis and dyslexia... enough said lol
They are American Akita, not Japanese. Japanese Akita only come in three colours, red/white, pure white and brindle. Never pinto, and never with a black mask.

You have an American Akita then. Check the KC breed standards. :)
