  • Ummm....lame

  • The day an american can do the haka is the day blsck people listen to country bahaha go UofU

  • This is rather pathetic, have some passion, for Christ's sake!

  • For the ones belittling him for not going hard, check out "all blacks haka kamate by gear" in the related vids section.

  • is he afraid to scream? Maybe he'll wake his mom...

  • dude...u got it wrong...gosh!

  • Sorry... FAIL

  • Leave the haka to the Maoris, period.

  • he did surprisingly well for the maori words especially wen hes a white ballangi

  • he sucks he doesnt even know the actions lolololololololol

  • I think he did a good job tho he sounded like an american

  • you did the kaora part wrong

  • Atleast people from outside New Zealand know it or try it... thats a good try tho lol

  • W-o-w So much enthusiasm :)

  • awesome

  • my friend has to do this for a project XD :D .......... hahahahahahahahahaha

this will look so weird! (poor amber)

  • Hey buddy can u send me and email of the full video haka i wanna learn all of it please

  • @XForRealX169 can u forward the haka video to me plaese

  • Football?

  • jeez he is just telling viewers how to do it, kinda hard to hear the pronunciations if he was screaming it at the top of his lungs.

  • He's not taking the piss he's just too shy to put any real effort it. You'll slate him if he goes for it. You'll slate him if he doesn't.

Now you know the words and the action, mix in some passion and some respect and you're done.

  • least hes showing HOW TO PERFORM IT YA FUCKS

everyone getting butt hurt over this? big deal

  • That was truly Pathetic

  • Me and my weight trainer, who used to play for the allblacks, were watching your vid, and he called you a "class A fuckup"

  • he looks like hes constipated

  • errr why? Why cant Americans get thier own culture? Seriously they have to go and steal everyone elses.

  • @nicolejana6 maybe cuz the u.s. is a melting pot and is made up of many cultures...sorry to burst your bubble

  • @goldenhawk101 lol WOW like I haven't heard that one before.

Thats just an excuse for Americans to go and use everyone elses culture and claim it as their own.

  • Yeah Hi, ma names jim bob and I'm goin shit on yo mama head real quick with ma super duper mean haka.......

What the fuck was that shit!!! just piss off back to redneck land and stick with yo banjo dude. Leave the haka alone....its not for you

  • Offensive.....

  • no offence but any balangi that does that,or some cant get it right and desn have the island power ta do it.

  • i think he needs to be angerer

  • An american trying to do a New Zealand tradition?

    Go back to your cheeseburgers.

  • i like the video. he just shows it step by step.so it helped out alot

  • wow look at all these haters, look at u guys always on police ten seven GTFO

  • Im maori and im from the land of aotearoa (great white cloud) New Zealand. And if my Tupuna (ancestors) where alive today they would be deeply offended, first of all most these men dont even know what there saying! THIS HAKA COMES FROM Te Rauparaha! Ka mate! Ka mate! Ka ora! Ka ora! I die! I die! I live! I live! Learn what your saying! pronounce the words properly! and respect our culture!!

  • You tryed bt nahh....

You have shammed The Maori culture

  • bro.... that was weak as!!!! never heard the haka whispered before...

  • how freaking embarrasing

  • I am Maori from NZ and I would like to say if not being rude that this tradition of BYU hakas pre match is culturally acceptable but please for the love of god learn the actions and words correctly and most importantly learn what you are saying and why you are saying it. Performed your way loses all its potency through misguided believe that it is a war dance. Ask the New Zealand Embassy to send a warrior to give lessons We would prefer it to this shame upon our language culture and beliefs

  • @hakaboy6924 hey kid. he's not trying to do it to intimidate you fool. he's doing this to SHOW YOU. im pretty sure kobe bryant doesnt put every drop of his body into his instructional videos. take a chill pill kid.

  • @NANAface2314 I am critiquing his actions and his words, slow motion or not I don't care and I understand it is instructional, but if you wish to be instructional at least instruct properly. It is a matter of hearsay and songs passed down I am saying to be respectful go to the source of the song. It is a maori song yet sung in this way it says nothing in any language and the actions are no better than a Hawaiian chain hotels greeting. Pretty ethnic nonsense for tourists.

  • @hakaboy6924 I agree with you!! . . I have said before, If you are going to do an Instructional video, DO IT PROPERLY!! . NGA TIKANGA MAORI is NOT halfby! When our TUTORS instruct, they do it the way they want it to be done. It is done with IHI me te WEHI, then it is broken down, word for word, *translated for non maori speakers* and Each action is hit with Strength and purpose. this poor boy looks scared, and almost Embarrassed!! he needs to pick his balls up and do it Properly!

  • @PynkcezZ watch a video of when they do the haka before a game... it used to be their home game warm up routine

  • @NANAface2314

No need for chill pill read what I said, I know it is instructional and I know he wouldn't be doing that actions full force. But at least learn the words properly his words and pronunciation does not make sense in any language if his school insists on stealing from another culture for the love of god pay it some initial respect

  • @hakaboy6924 hey im nz and i agree with you they should learn to do it better ay

  • please dont take this as how to do the haka

  • yeah well good use of actions, nice slow pace for people to catch on to.

Got the words right for once.

  • where doing this in dance LOL; its quite funny !

  • i dont mind the actions, every haka has its varyations its how he pronounces his words that pisses me off, as long as you are a kiwi, by all means take on the haka as apart of you or your team but get the words right first.

  • Sanfran it is not the hawaiin who do the haka it is the maori. They are the indigineouse people of New Zeland. It was their war dance and it was for psychological warfare to put fear in the enemy. The tongue was stuck out because it was a sign of disgrace. The video was good he slowed it down so you can follow along and the wording helped a lot! :)

  • fuckin disgrace boii

  • LOL, give this Brigham Young American Football player a break. At least he pronounced it right, for the most part.

Though the videos I've seen of them as a team perform it suck... they're not even Hawaii...

  • if u wanna know how to do it WATCH MY UNCLE. BRO

  • Whgere can i find him..?

  • @MarnixBoZ he aint on youtube hes in australia sorry bro

  • What the hell is that? Thats not the real haka. Its all wrong.

  • chant it like u live it or shut up,its said with pride not for entertainment, learn it before u make an embarresment for the haka and urself

  • Comment removed

  • Ohhh hahahahahaaaa! I wonder why he botherd makeing this vid??? Poor dude

  • is this a joke....

  • lol, learning how to dance noob xD stupid dance, the hilariousity of the dumb gayness of that dance :D

  • bloody bastard left out some fings but it was pretty kood mate.

  • i dont know but i got that from comments

I couldnt do that but im 10

  • your a discrase

  • @hardrockdkj - How about "You're a disgrace"... If you're going to rag on someone and insult them, at least be intelligent enough to write it correctly... What a buffoon!

  • THIS WAS ACTUALLY SPOT ON!!! His Pronounciation was Good.. Needs a lil volume.. But MAEN!! And Im a MAORI.. so I can say so!!

  • @PynkcezZ hes teaching how to do it!!!!!

  • @OstlerDev if he is, he's a disgrace. You do NOT teach a Haka of this prestige like that!! a Decent HAKA done properly has IHI me te WEHI . this man has NONE of those. Being a female, I would be able to rip this boy to threads "Teaching" the exact same haka! I am proud of my heritage, and HATE seeing wannabes abuse my language cause they think it's COOL!?! Learn it, understand it, feel it, then Perform it!

  • @PynkcezZ Appperntly he is american/ maori so fair enough if he's spreading his culture. I've learnt kapa haka as well and when is was first beginning we were taught similar to this. Much easier to pick up the pronunciation and actions when they arnt going 100%

  • @UHtiger first word is "apparently"

  • nice

    but not enough enthusiasm

i'm looking for something to blow my speakers

  • You suk you american faggot i bet u dont even know what the words mean . UPOKOKOHUA !!!!!!!!

  • @jedigeorge LMAO.....

  • my grama could do better than hakaman123 lol lol lol

  • man you people are angry

  • @senbonsakura1 lmao...aahahahah...

  • bit of a insult to the Maori culture, dont you think?

  • yes thanks for the comment

  • @danthemus Actually, it's a compliment. When you integrate a part of someone's culture into your traditions, that is a compliment.

  • @BigIrishman16 Ka Mate was not written for other cultures to accept or enjoy. As is there enough debate over whether the ABs should be doing it. Te Rauparaha wrote Ka Mate for the people of Ngati Toa. Te Rauparaha was harassed by European settlers over laws that they brought to the land upon settling. So what makes you think that he would want it to be used as entertainment for the people he opposed?

  • @danthemus - Whether it was written FOR other cultures to accept or enjoy or not, it was. There are great traditions all over the world and they are embraced and imitated (often poorly) by other cultures all over the world. I love watching the Haka performed. While in New Zealand, I was privileged to go to a Maori village and see it performed. I also saw it performed by the All Blacks prior to a match between NZ and South Africa. Both times it gave me chills. I admire and respect the Haka.

  • @BigIrishman16 It was NOT written for other cultures to enjoy. Te Rauparaha was being chased by the other other 'culture' he knew that existed. The Maori had laws and punishment forced upon them by early European settlers. They were held captive by laws which they had no option but to receive or basically be shot. So he was plagued by this other culture. So why on Earth would he write something that more part of his own culture for the very people who he opposed to enjoy?

  • @danthemus -Please re-read my comment. I did't at any time say that it was written or created for other cultures to enjoy. Let me rephrase- Te Rauparaha created the Haka for a specific purpose. I understand that. My point was that many people admire the Haka. They admire the tradition and they admire the spirit behind it. I am one of those people. Even though it wasn't created to entertain me, it touches me deeply when I see it and I admire the Haka and love seeing it performed. Others do, too

  • You'd think his last name would give you'd a clue. Mahuika. Apparently he's an American born Maori so good on him for showing his heritage.

  • I have honestly never seen a haka performed by an American.

  • fuckin pakiha dont even know the actions making up there own shit and cant say the words right shit pissis me off hard!!!!!

  • Even though I am Pakeha I still rekon this is crap he didnt even try to put any passion into it or anything worst haka ever!

  • Least he's giving it a go mate.

  • cooll

  • WRONG! get a kiwi in!!

  • Nice vid

  • he aint even pronouncing it properly. onli do it if you know how 2

  • hey all u byu haters can shut your mouth

  • how would he be wrong? he's the one that leads it

  • fail.

  • fucking bastard!!!

  • fxckin sucks .....

  • he is going slow

  • lmfao.

it looks WAY better when the New Zeland All Blacks do it, don't you agree? (:

    waaay sexier ;D

  • omg is that person in the vid ryan young from walkwood middle school

  • uh its bryce mahuike man

  • chur cuzz, nice vid my bro.i dont doubt your right to do the haka.you are clearly of maori descent so that right is immediately yours.but it takes more than a maori last name to become a son of aotearoa.pride, passion and a love for the language, the people and the whenua are what qualifys you for that title.if you have these things...welcome home my bro.hope to see round this beautiful home of ours some day.

  • are mormans allowed to swear?..

  • yea haha its a personal choice im not mormon buh i hav alotta mormon fam its a personal choice

  • This is a haka, yes... not well performed but still a haka.

As for this cat being a descendant of a Maori chief... AINT WE ALL???!!!

It's good to see this guy TRYING to hold on to his taha Maori, good try cuz!

  • wt a nob

    fckin ruin the haka there

no effort at all and he gt sum of it rong

  • he was showing how to do it. people don't do something fast if they are showing some one how to do something.

  • Ahahahahaha! Even if that's true about him being related to a "Maori chief", I'm certain he'd be rolling over in his grave right now. It's clear to all that he knows nothing about his culture or his heritage. Kia tupato, mena ka hapa koe i te rangatira, he aitua kei te haere! Upokokohua!

  • learning the haka is no joke

  • Dances of Life (Maori excerpt).. type that in. youtube.. ThaT's how u do it damnit!!! Maori.. kEi te ate haunuiapaparangi taku ingoa!!!!

  • fuck utah, GO BYU!!! KA MATE, KA MATE, KA ORA, KA ORA!! oh rise and shout the muther fuckin cougars are out BITCH!

  • Fk that !! what about them bears !!!! cal bears baby !!!! the mountain west has nothing on pac-10, big-12, sec, acc all them big leauges... The best skilled players come from california or from the south.... USC, CAL, OREGON, OREGON STATE..... I give props to them utah schools though..Byu and Utah but I dont know about weber and utah state or sourthen utah...lol..lol... hell them semi-pro teams out in utah could probably beat weber or sourthern U

  • it's funny you'd say that considering the Mountain West went 6-1 against the Pac 10 this year, not to mention Oregon lost AT HOME to Boise State.

  • A haole boy from the south teaching the "haka" huh? Fucken lame.

  • no, this is an american with direct maori descent, who i have been told has lineage to the creator of this haka which is more than can be said of tongans and samoans trying to teach it at UH when they cant even say the words properly

  • bryce mahuika's grandpa was a maori chief you retard, don't be hatin

  • NO he is not the son of a Maori Chief and no he has no lineage to the creator of this haka. Mahuika, why don't you tell your 'footballers' the truth or is it that you don't even know the truth?

  • hes not haole. hes maori dude.

  • haha fuken botzing it gee

  • ok white boy what do those words mean? GO UTES... BCS BCS BCS BCS.... THIS IS WHAT 12-0 LOOKS LIKE BABY... LOL

  • Yeah... I'm kinda sick of seeing you posting that in close to every video on youtube that has "BYU" and "haka" in the title(ok, 2). Yeah, we get it, you won. Congrats, I'll be rooting for you when you play.

Go out there and MAKE MONEY FOR BYU!

  • GO BYU!!! UTAH GO SUCK ASS!!

  • So... How bout then Utes?

I'm above rubbing it in your face, good game :)

  • BOOOOOOOO BYU!!!!!! GO UTES!!

  • amen

  • what does that have to do with this video. utah sucks.

  • are you serious? byu is whack! and were gonna win this weekend!! WHOOP WHOOP!

  • whoop whoop? okay.... oh wait ur a yewtah fan ur prolly drunk anyway.

  • =( i always say whoop whoop. and im NEVER drunk. so suck it! HATER. GO UTES BABY! =D

  • bridgetaction) get tht fuckin black shit out ur mouth b4 i do

  • I gota say, I think both BYU and the All-Blacks suck at this haka. But the are many Maori that have attended BYU and have obviously bought the haka with them. We can't bag on them for that. But I think that BYU Hawaii should give more respect to their own tangata whenua and allow them to create a dance for them to use. Ka mate ka mate was composed by a man whose life was saved a hairy old man (or woman) and thats it. Nothing more nothing less.

  • thats like ...offensive to the maoris..leave it to the all blacks...americans are like stealing our haka!!

  • haole

  • Ermmm? Im a kiwi, i fully understand what you are doing with this, but your vid was pretty half-assed. I hope you play your game with more passion and heart...GO COUGARS?!

  • Lol way to go Bryce!

  • byu licks the sack go HAWAI'I, damn mormans stealing our dance

  • true dat

  • its not a hawaii dance in the first place so u stole it first tard

  • atleast byu has a couple maori's in there, theyve got good reason.just cause hawaii's got some tongans and samoans does'nt mean they should be doing a maori HAKA, samoa and tonga have they're own thing

  • we did it before you bitch

  • yea and the all blacks did it before you!

  • WTF, u know what the haka even is, the haka is a cultural dance for the all blacks. Its disrespectful to do if unless u are new zealand. I don't blame this guy cause hes just teaching us how but the kids that r doig them for intimidation reasons are total jack asses and u should be ashamed

  • we do the haka for football in cambridge minnesota i would like to brag but we are pretty good

  • kia ora

  • do you guys even know who that is!?

he is just making it easier to understand.

this is a "how to" video. not an actual performance at full volume and level.

  • No reply from my last comment, interesting.

Mahuika is a highborn bloodline in Ngati Porou, I won't deny that but that doesn't mean there are recognised as the highest bloodline. Let me make this clear, there is no PARAMONT Chief ie someone who says jump and everyone asks 'how high' so don't go misleading people. I have to say that you can embarrass yourself, but don't embarrass Te Rauparaha, Ngati Toa, New Zealand but most importantly do not embarrass your own IWI!

  • good to see the passion

  • come on that was the worst haka i've ever seen, i mean i hate going on peoples videos and dissing them but come on, shout!

  • I agree that the HAKA should be executed with verve but I think he may have toned it down to make it easier to understand while people are practicing to learn it.

  • haha its obviously an instructional video. c'mon now ralph you gotta know that

  • Ngati Porou..aiite then

  • strange, Im from Ngati Porou and I wasn't aware we had a chief........

  • This is Bryce Mahuika, who is of Maori descent. His father, Michael K. Mahuika, was son of Nepia Mahuika who is the chief of the Maori Ngati Porou iwi. Bryce's father was next in line to become chief of his iwi and died just prior to BYU's 2005 season which is when they decided to honor him by doing the Ka Mate Haka before games. In the video he is obviously doing it slow and without passion because it is meant teach teammates who have never done it before.

  • i am 100% Maori born & bred in New Zealand. My mother is Ngati Porou, her father was Te Whanau-A-Apanui & her mother Te-Aitangi-A-Hauiti. i was raised in Turanga-nui-a-kiwa [heart of the Ngati Porou].

Since WHEN DID WE HAVE A CHEIF?! I think someone's been talking tito [shit]. Sorry to put it bluntly, but if there's a chief i wish someone would have told me :p. maybe i didn't get the email?????

  • your actually not 100% maori there are none left

  • untrue. people like my mother & father, rare though it maybe - who have "full blood" written on their birth certificates.

plus their country folk [from different rohe] who dare i say it, have not bred outside if you know what i mean.

not that it matters. why did you need to point that out? thats probably a more interesting question...

  • thats probably a more interesting question...

stick to the issue, which for me [& the post that you so obviously read, was in response to], was the statement that Ngati Porou had a CHEIF. We do not.

  • in response to comment posted by RiseNShout...

i am 100% Maori born & bred in New Zealand. My mother is Ngati Porou, her father was Te Whanau-A-Apanui & her mother Te-Aitangi-A-Hauiti. i was raised in Turanga-nui-a-kiwa [heart of the Ngati Porou].

  • i guess if the people willing to use the New Zealand Maori haka for their sports it maybe ok depending where they get their training from. (NOT THIS IDIOT)

id rather see the haka used by people who have been well educated about the history and mana behind it as opposed to watching a bunch of rip offS who dont know what they are talking about and the words are mispronounced. that kinda shit is disgraceful and insulting to the Maori. THIS GUY HAS NO MANA

  • and i should know im tongan

  • What the hell!! HE Just embarresed himself!! He couldn't even pronounce the words right!! What a looser!!

  • a looser, or a loser...wow at least he can spell

  • very pretty fruitcake! keep up the good work- the byu, "where the campus is our world!" Go snibblicker!

  • ummm.... lol..y dont we just leave the haka to the professionals. ie. the All Backs who own the dance or.... a Maori. lol

good try though. lol... i think.

  • if his dad is a cheif of what tribe??

you still havent told me his whakapapa..

    im just curious..

  • yes.. he is showing us how to do it.. Believe me.. I've seen the real thing..

I think we've all seen the real thing.. This is done clearly and slowly so the guys who are learning can learn quicker..

If he did the real thing, they would be guys who are learning would be intimidated and not pick it up so quick..

  • Hes not showing us how its done! i should kno im tongan! he cant even pronounce the words!

  • BYU does the Haka to respect the culture of their student-athletes..

BYU does the Haka to embrace and honor the sacred traditions of the Maori culture and Bryce Muhuika's family..

I see nothing wrong with that.. and I trust that Maori around the world can relate to Bryce Muhuika's desire to honor his father..

  • why does BYU do the Haka ?

because of the guy on this video..

Not only is Bryce Muhuika of Maori descent, but his father is a Maori Chief of a tribe in New Zealand that is still functioning..

he asked Coach Mendenhall if he could lead BYU's football team in the Haka to honor his father who passed away while Bryce was at BYU..

As a BYU fan, I am honored that Bryce Muhuika introduced us to the Haka. When I first saw the Haka, I researched it and I now have a great respect for the Maori culture..

  • my gay school willow croft wach this gay vido
