true, but i don't think the problem is the gymnastics. Instead, if you look at the 2006 competition, or the last 5-6 years of Mayan Salsa, it looks the same. The stunts are repeated, and his work is becoming less and less original. I feel like I'm watching almost the same routine. However, I still have to compliment his technique. Oh!! just found the 1st to 3rd places. Judges usually have a t least 4 or 5 categories to mark on eg Musical Interpretation, Technicality, Synchronisation etc not just WOW factor or entertainment value.
Can someone pls post the 1st 2nd and 3rd places. Don't wanna have to wait for the 2008 Mayan DVD ;-) With that kind of routine and a 4th place judges must have been sending a signal maybe "too" flamboyant routine. But undenialably a gr8 one!!
What was so special about the floor mat that they placed on staged? Is this how he pulled the leaning forward stunt in the beginning? They are a great couple, but way too many stunts.

Regardless of who comes up with what... i think Alien and Alex just do not blend. and i agree wit Passion that he should be with Sulmara. I freakin LOVE her. She has such a great style and i like her attitude when she dances. With Alien its all a bunch of tricks and stuff. =/

I don't think that a tornado makes a great dancer - but Alien let miss more than only a tornado.
It could be true, that Alien made her 3 signature-moves, but they aren't tremendously
impressing. I don't like her Style - look for "Sulmara" at you tube and you will see a great salsa dancer :) Sulmara and Alex - this would be an awesome combination - but it will never be :) Unfortunately.

If you learned from ADS personally, you might have a problem with that. Ask for someone to help you.

He can't stay ON TIME, and he CHOOSES not to change his style, the only thing he budged on was the footwork (which was on time because of her, whether you like afro cuban or not is really not the issue here). I know both of them PERSONALLY, have been to rehearsals, and been to the music editing sessions.I know how stubborn ALEX IS.
Too funny... but you're probably right. Alex is known now for having a bad attitude. I'm sure he has 99.9% control of the routines performed... but also, regardless if Alien is good or not, he has her because she's light enough to lift. I mean, come on, Alex Da Silva himself is NOT a big guy. Alien's probably barely 100 pounds.

They got there in FULL COSTUME as the pros were taking the stage to warm up. Therefore they were not allowed on stage. And I agree with you and Zul and ADS. It would NEVER work.

Ok first of all I know Alex and Alien very well. I learned from them & have spent lots of time rehersing and did get really personal with these people. I do think Martin and Esti are very clean and worked very hard and they for sure deserved first place. Although Alex and Alien are very hot and entertaining which people love, Alien does make Alex look better than he is and they make a great connection with the crowd and each other. Also I love their costumes.
So I do think they should of got second place for sure but I guess karma bit Alex in the ass! lol Maybe if there was a lot more salsa in their riteam they could of got a higher score because it was clean but Martin does move way better than Alex and there reteam was perfect for competition salsa. Alien still remains a very close friend of mine and of course Martin I have to route for all the way since he is on my team and is my good friend. Still liked Alien and Alex's perfomance though xo.

...it's 1,2,3 pause 5,6,7 pause (what part of N.Y. are you from). Salsa comps. should have at least 45% salsa and they demonstrated at least that. When the acrobatics was as sensational as A and A's, I can see why one would think it was like a circus. (..probably more like Cirque Du Soleil though).
I saw them do a practice performance and it looked like they changed a LOT... they had a tango piece in it and she ended up in the air. *Sigh*.... Alex is alright, but yes, he's does much more acrobatics than others. And honestly, I think they're are a lot more better dancers than him in L.A. But 4th place? Wow, I thought they'd place 2nd. Mayan and politics, you know?
Sorry to point those people commenting below try this.... count 2,3,4 pause 5,6,7 its call Salsa timing which was sadly lacking throughout this routine, that much was obvious. Also this was ment to be a 'Salsa' Competition, not a circus performance. This was 10% Salsa, 90% acrobatics.

I was there. IT WAS A FLAWLESS routine. I'm not commonly a DaSilva fan/follower, but fair is fair. THEY WERE ROBBED!! In my opinion, it was political. DaSilva is not the most well liked individual, and he's won this contest many times in the past...it was political--totally.
4th place?....what the....this was the most awesome routine I have ever seen. Innovative,perfect technique and musicality, unbeleivable lifts, great speed and energy, unsurpassed flexibility and most of all, the audience went crazy. It was salsa at it's best. 1st place winners looked like amatures compared to them. .....What did I miss here?
this is a SALSA competition and i thought their routine lacked a lot of that. don't get me wrong, i was also one of the audience members that went crazy, but felt a lot of his 'tricks' were out of context and he needed to string them along better. notice the chemistry and fluidity is unsurpassed by the 1st place couple. but 4th place is pretty low i expected alex to drop no lower than 3rd but i did not think he deserved 1st place in a salsa competition with a routine that was lacking salsa.

...Poor Alex and Alien.
Martin and Asti's routine was clean...but it looked like something they put togeather that morning. It was the same old same old.
2nd place winners really got me scratching my head. The girl was not centered on her turns and is badly pidgeoned toed.
3rd place was better than the 2nd place winners, I thought, but again,.....a nothing new routine.
A and A, ....you are 1st in my book. Keep up the good work. (P.S. I loved the Afro-Cuban work)
