The trouble Canada has is that most players start earliest in grade 6 or 7. Our weather lets us play maybe 10 months of the year at best (in Vancouver/Victoria BC ) contrast to NZ where they start mini leagues much earlier on AND can play 12 months of the year.
When you think about it, a 20 yr old NZ player has probably played rugby about 5 years longer than a Canadian player.
Best try has to go to Canada that intercept was the shit. Canadian rugby has a lot of potential so i hope it becomes more popular over there in the future. I would love Canada to be come a top rugby team. They have a long way to go however. They need to follow the example of argentina, italy and japan. Those teams are making actual noticable progress. @popman648 I played against both of those teams in the U-16 league this year and Oakville is just an amazing club, very hard to beat and they have their shit together, but it's the men's teams you should look at. Oakville men's won Ontario championship, barely beating the Stratford Blackswans. The team I'm on :)
canada should just write off the 4 major north american sports. a canadian team will never win the stanley cup ever again or the NBA championship or the "world series". the US has simply taken over the 4 sports and Canada should join the rest of the world in sports that are more global (rugby, soccer)

Rugby is seriously the most amazing sport in the entire world. Canada will have a better team as time goes on, I remember my first game and I had no idea what to do, but as time went on and after a few games rugby had gotten in my blood. I can't get enough of the sport now.

Great thing about rugby is there's a position for every kind of athlete to play.. (respectively those over about 150lbs) you don't need to be 6'8 like in basket ball, or 250lbs like football, or 40 years like baseball xD
Well Apparently its the quickest growing sport over here and I can completely believe that, I didnt get into it until highschool a year ago but I have played a year of school (tough) and a year of summer (not so tough lol) but now im going out for the senior team at school which is twice as tough as the junior I played last year and from the people i have met and the coaches i've had as soon as they play everyone just gets glued to the game I know I'm ginna be playing for a long time myself.
Hopefully over time Canada develops a stronger youth program. Seeing as this generation really doesn't get into it until high school, I think it'll take this generation having kids that they can get into the sport earlier to really beef up the younger programs. Despite it's lack of popular support, those who get into rugby get really into rugby, it creates diehards because the people who learn rugby in Canada are all players. One day we'll be more competitive with more elite teams, one day.

canadian rugby is not as good as the european or southern hemisphere rugby because they have real jobs. i doubt that canada has a pro league. all i know is there are premiere leagues. thats it.
its true... most of the players on team canada have day jobs... the closest thing we have to a pro league used to be a "super league" where we would compete against other provinces and american teams..
not enough government funding/popularity amongst the people... but I find that once people get converted from football to rugby, they can't go back :)
lol well canada can only get better because almost all of the canadian international players are in a club over in the National Division 1 (or whatever the league below the Guinness Premiership is) so their skills can only improve by the world cup in 2011 and we'll get a chance to play the All Blacks again

Great thing about rugby is there's a position for every kind of athlete to play.. (respectively those over about 150lbs) you don't need to be 6'8 like in basket ball, or 250lbs like football, or 40 years like baseball xD

Well Apparently its the quickest growing sport over here and I can completely believe that, I didnt get into it until highschool a year ago but I have played a year of school (tough) and a year of summer (not so tough lol) but now im going out for the senior team at school which is twice as tough as the junior I played last year and from the people i have met and the coaches i've had as soon as they play everyone just gets glued to the game I know I'm ginna be playing for a long time myself.

Hopefully over time Canada develops a stronger youth program. Seeing as this generation really doesn't get into it until high school, I think it'll take this generation having kids that they can get into the sport earlier to really beef up the younger programs. Despite it's lack of popular support, those who get into rugby get really into rugby, it creates diehards because the people who learn rugby in Canada are all players. One day we'll be more competitive with more elite teams, one day.

ok canada = big place people all over it takes forever to organize a team and get them to practice as there all in different provinces-also canada sorta like usa unfortunately lots of ppl in football(american)

canadian rugby is not as good as the european or southern hemisphere rugby because they have real jobs. i doubt that canada has a pro league. all i know is there are premiere leagues. thats it.

its true... most of the players on team canada have day jobs... the closest thing we have to a pro league used to be a "super league" where we would compete against other provinces and american teams..

lol well canada can only get better because almost all of the canadian international players are in a club over in the National Division 1 (or whatever the league below the Guinness Premiership is) so their skills can only improve by the world cup in 2011 and we'll get a chance to play the All Blacks again
(and hopefully we only lose by less than 20 this time lol but i wont hold my breath)

canada are getting better and better at rugy since it started to becom more popular throughout the world,give um a few more year and i rekon they will becom very competitive,not saying they will be able to beat the power three from the southern hemisphere lol.maybe the northern hemisphere

Canada has been playing rugby since 1865 or so...
They were so much better when the game was all amateur.
Tough, scrappers, hard men... canada needs to develop some finesse players and they would compete against the top 6 teams in the world.
