If you think about it, Magus experience with his sister Schala is just like in the movie 12 Monkeys, a time paradox. He is a witness to something terrible in his youth which affects him and causes him to act differently in the future. When he then chooses to travel back in time to take revenge he finds that he is partly or mostly the cause!
A terribly shortened version of what actually happens I know, but I see a resemblance ...
@Nabo00o i agree with that somewhat but I dont think it could have been helped, Schala would have still been feed to lavos because of the queens lust for power, regardless if Janus went back in time i also think the ocean palace is in ages ahead, deep underground the earth before you even know about it in 12,000bc, it only becomes the black omen out of threat to her survival, I think the most troubling part to him is there's nothing he can do about it, like it must happen for time to exist.
i so remember the first i reach to this place, the scene looked graphically amazing at that time, and let alone the music, this seriously marks one my most precious moment in life~~
Someone missed the like button. i guess they don't understand true music :(. but when i first reached this place, my mind was in heaven for a second :D
this was my first favorite rpg game that i've played when i was a child... i played this on the nintendo+ufo where you can insert a diskette on games.
@wimplo897 It sometimes makes me cry to listen to this song, and I am vaguely reminded of past lifetimes lived in Atlantis, which the story of Zeal is modeled after. Perhaps you were also in Atlantis, or perhaps Lemuria, and this song pleasantly reminds you of those past times spent there.
check out armcannon on myspace... they do a metal cover of this song... its fucking amazing..!!! their also in my opinion the best video game cover band..
So glad to find this song.. It has been years since I've heard it and it really brings back memories of this awesome game. I play MMORPGs now (like WoW) but this game will always remain my absolute favorite RPG of all time.
Wut made this even more epic (imo) is when I accidentally opened up another window with this playing. There wuz about a 21 second difference in the videos. It just sounded awesome.
ive been playing this game on a modded xbox with a ton of snes games. i just got to the zeal kingdom and this song was so awesome i had to look it up. there are a ton of great songs from this game
I loved those games, very well designed, despite the very limited technolonology available back then, I wish those developers could do the same with today's games, only a few ones get to this point, like Shadow of the colossus
This is the pinnacle of what is possibly one of the best game soundtracks for any 16 bit game. This, done by Squaresoft, is only rivaled by the likes of Secret of Mana/Seiken Densetsu and Final Fantasy 4 & 6 (2 & 3 in USA, respectively). The first time i heard this song i fell in love with it. I didnt even care about the game i just wanted to hear this song over and over and over! hah :) love it
I never even played Chrono Trigger until a year ago, and even in this era of incredibly realistic graphics and orchestrated music, reaching Zeal for the first time was one of the most breathtaking moments I can remember in any game.
@wheresmahshiv I completely agree, the first time I arrived to the kingdom of Zeal is one of my fondest moments of video game playing (if you say it like that)
@wheresmahshiv lol I had the same feeling. And I played this back in 10 grade recently. Heck, just played Final Fantasy 7 a year ago. These games are just...true to the soul. Chrono Trigger touched my heart beyond any game though.
I have the original cart so no flaming on having an emulated version of this. I still sometimes turn on my emmy version and leave it playing in the background while I do work.
Music like that is pure magic to me... A soundtrack like that was a part of the game not an addition... Something went wrong and most of all those games nowadays are only money melking machines... They have no soul...
I just played Chrono Trigger for the first time (I know, I kind of missed the train on this one) and it is hands down, the best RPG i've ever played. Even with the occasional help of a walkthrough it had a minimum of 25 hours gameplay, 30-40 without. Simply amazing.
Too bad that Zeal (the epitome of beauty, technology, and evolution) had to sink into the sea due to the carelessness and stupidity of mankind. Magus knows that better than anyone.
I love this song

whats there to elaborate? there is no explanation needed. you can enter one place and it touches you right there inside. Zeal is one of those places
