  • I bought this when i was 14 in 1978.Still sounds as good.

  • The cover of the Wave album looks suspiciously like Stevie Nicks' Bella Donna album cover, hmmmmm?????

  • Wow!!! The Wave album cover looks suspiciously like Stevie Nicks on the cover of Bella Donna...hummmmm....

  • è 1 canzone davvero splendida e poi nn potrei immaginarmela cantata da qualcun'altro...patti smith è favolosa!!!:)

  • Awesome ! thank you

  • davvero bella !! wow fantastic

  • I believe this was produced by Jimmy Iovine - Todd Rundegren did her terrible Wave record.

This was a total gift from Springsteen, I'm glad she did it and got a hit off of it.

  • Toccami ora, perchè qst è la notte degli amanti! fantastica

  • What a beautiful song.

  • I cannot think of another song that represents giving unshackled and biased complete love between two people. TRULY.....a great and fantastic song.

  • Esta de pinga esta cancion!! Me gusta mucho Patty Smith !!

  • shivers run down my spine every time I listen to this song, it's an amazing piece of art.

  • I had this on 8 track. nobody does this song justice like Patti. Rock on!

  • great song!

  • fucking great man

  • love it

  • Truly inspirational performance one of her alltime greats.tyvm.

  • (This song was written by Springsteen). B-R-U-U-U-C-E ! ! !

  • This is PUNK.

  • she looked pretty hot in those pictures-as well as being a great singer....

  • lol. I think she is pretty ugly, but the song is great.

  • Hmm, tho i agree she sings this song very good, she stays damn ugly.

But everyone got, ofcourse, his own taste.

  • Desperate much? She is NASTY looking! Needs to shave those armpits from hell soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo disgusting!

You want HOT look at Taylor Swift!

  • Patti gave this song life and meaning. I don't think Bruce would've reached as far with it himself. But, it's not her best song.

  • True. That song is RnR N....r, obviously.

  • Heh, I'd go with Ain't It Strange :)

  • Land Horses is the best

  • I agree that it's not her best song. But Bruce would be the first to agree that Patti did a better job than he could. He'd sent the song to Patti whom first throwed it away and then picked up again and this is the result!

  • watch his live performances of this song in 1978 and you know who could give that song life and meaning

  • You can kind of tell this song has Bruce's touch, but she has a great style to her voice

  • great song written by Bruce Springsteen but

nobody can touch Patti Smith on this song !

    It was made for her..

    She is awsome !

Thank you for posting this amazing piece.

  • This song has Bruce stamped all over that, and Patty's arrangement can't hide that. A good version, but The Boss does it best.

  • Hallo, are you shure, that "The Boss" has written this wonderful song? But my meaning is the same likeyours. Patty is the best person to intertain this song. I was long ago at a concert from her in Hamburg. During the concert she falls down from the stage, because she has drunken very much and took hard drugs. I was very disappointed about this concert.

    Regards Katrin

  • Co-written by Springsteen. She helped I would assume.

  • Epic song and the greatest studio version there is or will ever be...

Bruce truly makes it his own when he well n' truly rocks it live!

  • Yes, he does an amazing version on Live 75-85.

I like Patti Smith but Springsteen did her a major favor tossing this off to her. As intense and compelling as she is, neither she nor her band at the time had the kind of ability Springsteen had to craft a song quite so commercially accessible and melodic. Her approach to music is original, fascinating and deeply satisfying but Springsteen is a PHENOMENAL writer who managed to strike that balance of artistic integrity and commercial viability.

  • As far as I know, Springsteen wrote the song, but he didn't want to put it on the album that he was recording at the same time as Patti Smith was recording hers, so he "gave" her the song and she changed the lyrics to get rid of Springsteen's typical working-man bullshit lyrics and make it more of a love song. Yeah, Bruce! We all know what a working man you were before you become a rock star! LOL

  • Just found your comment Also at the Old Record factory at the same time in 1978 was Lou Reed, recording that amazing urban mini-opera "Street Hassle", for which Springers read the epilogue - uncredited for the usual reasons. Until I read Reed's account I always thought it was a mischievous parody of The Boss's cheerful patter - 'tramps like us, we were born to fail'. Creative time.

  • LOL

  • Com'on the best part of the original is missing (just after the first chorus..). "What I've got is what I've earned...what I've not baby I have learned..."

I can't believe it had been cut in this version...

    too bad...

  • u re definitely right man

this is exactely what i think too

  • I'm not naming names, because I'm not into scapegoating people for their beliefs. However, extreme fag baiting will not be tolerated. Consider this fair warning to everyone.

  • Right on !

    - A straight guy.

  • cette chanson est juste énorme.

    merci Patti.

  • I figure that Patti Smith's version of this Springsteen song is as unique as Elvis Presley's cover of Carl Perkins' "Blue Suede Shoes." Elvis breathes new life into it. Patti Smith does the same with "Because the Night." It's HER song now.

  • Bruce may have had a lot or all to do with this, but if you were in the scene 30 years ago, you'd know Patti Smith MADE this song--it's HERS. Ever see Gilda Radner do her take on Patti and this song on SNL? Great fun.

  • ti teleio tragoudi...prin lg kairo xwrisa m t agori m k auto t tragoudi m tn 8umizei:`(

  • I absolutely LOVE this song!

    I mean,it's PERFECT!

    Patti Smith Rox!

  • awesome!!

  • Great!!! Thanks for posting this ;-)

  • It's Amazing!! And what about Cascada?? :S just Disgusting...

  • I think Springsteen's is just s good as Patti's. They are different somewhat in their lyrics, but both versions are great!

  • cool song

  • absolut klasser song..absolut spitze...

bin unsterblich in diesem song verliebt....

  • i love this song.... do you know cascada s rmx?

    it s something terrible....

  • i fully agree

  • Sorry folks but, for the record, this song is all Bruce Springsteen and VERY little Patti Smith. her input amounted to a few changes from Bruce's original lyrics - that's it. He had already recorded one version for his 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' album and did not include it because it did not fit the theme of his album. It was offered to Patti who was recording in the studio at the same time, check out Bruce's live version and compare her verse lyrics - that's her input.

  • Yeah, it also belongs to rapists, muggers, and the homeless----did I say that! (kidding)

  • Another Bruce Springsteen hit!!

  • A good montage of photos!

  • she is so damn cool!

    and this song, wow!:D

  • was she anarexic or something ?

  • No, they just did a lot of speed in those days :)

  • I don't think she did so much speed - thats just her body type. And it is yummy :)

  • I love it!

  • savvygirl4ever: Me too. This song is loaded with subversive sex appeal. It's a total classic. It sounds as fresh today as it did 30 years back.

  • Yeah!,You're right!

  • of course! this song is very cool!

  • I gotta agree here. This is a brilliant song

  • Robert Mapplethorpe *was* gay. He was also Patti's roommate and friend.

  • if iu get into britans got talent i will be singing this.

  • pelle d"oca

  • good stuff

  • I love this song! That piano playing at the beggining is awesome. I actually was looking for this song for a while, but I had forgotten the name of it. I won't forget it ever again.

  • not hideous ... so strong to judge her .. .she is HUMAN not a cosmetic dolll she is a singer not a toy!

  • Her voice is great...this is a great song...but she is the definition of hideous! Who on earth would want to see her naked!!?? I thought Robert Maplethorpe was gay?

  • his last name was spelled mapplethorpe. and he was a real pole smoker to answer your question. and patti smith chose not to wear make up which would have made her more atractive! her beauty is in her songs and voice! and her poetry. i do not share her political views but i respect her greatly for what she has done with her life!
