Seriously addicted to your mind Stef, I just stumbled on to your channel not too long ago *Thanks Batta0909* , and I can't get enough of it! Which is strange because I took a Philosophy class in University and blah…yeah, enough said.
This series really resonates with me, having an ACE score of 4 myself. I have really analyzed my past and made a point not to do what has been done to me. I am now a stay-at-home mother of a wonderful son, age: 9 months, and plan to be for as long as I can. Before he was born I asked myself this question: am I going to raise him out of love or fear?
It didn't take me long to answer. Obviously I never want to resort to any type of abuse because I know the damage it causes, but where would I start? All I knew was contention and miscommunication. Some years back, I was admitted and diagnosed with BDT. I have put myself on the waiting list for the DBT program here in Calgary. I will then be attending group and solo therapy sessions for a year, which will be followed by solo sessions for another year.
I will learn skills I was never taught during my childhood in order to properly communicate with others. I find this crucial not only in my self-development, but especially in my parenting. I really understand where you are coming from Stef, this must be why I really enjoy hearing what you have to say. I just wanted to leave you with a nice note; You have an extraordinary mind Stef and your search for self-knowledge is very special for all who understand.
I'm so glad to hear how you talk about children (because I've often felt TOTALLY ALONE in having exactly the same attitudes). What's strange is that most people seem to have exactly the OPPOSITE view: they treat children (ESPECIALLY their own children) the WORST of all the people the interact with. The only "rationale" I can conceive of for them is that they focus their aggression on the "easiest target."
@GetMeThere1 thank you so much for your kind words, I'm glad that you don't feel so alone anymore, you might want to check out my free message board on my website... :)
@stefbot my very RELIGIOS brother that WORKS FOR THE STATE and LOVES VOTING just got a baby, they will not be at home, one of her grandmothers is going to be with her more than half of the time, HOW CAN I HELP THAT LITTLE BABY??????
@GetMeThere1 This is so true, I have noticed and experieced this too, at first i couldnt not understand why, why do we treat our childrent the worst then all the people we interact with ? it makes sence now, thank you for enlightening me Stefan, I shall be shareing this with everyone I can :)
Good series stef. I watched it on the basis of your suggestion to me of how to get rid of the state.
I have a better idea of it now. This is a non-violent solution that doesn't involve revolts and things of that nature.
I would then assume you are predicting that if every child is raised with this kind of care and dedication, not receiving any sort of abuse at all, then the older generations of humans that were abused will eventually become extinct.
I cannot agree more about the importance of the development of empathy in developing children if we are to improve the state of the world at large. For anyone interested in an example of this being put to work, google Mary Gordon and the Roots of Empathy program. I think she is doing great work. I also greatly admire the teaching style of Toshiro Kanamori, as documented in the film Children Full of Life (a playlist is available on my channel if interested.)
@THAWK3 really helped me when it came along... i was able to put aside a lot of anger i had toward men! whew. that was a load off. i came from a household w/ a bunch of much older brothers who sat and watched mom cook, wash dishes, and work until her body and mind fell apart...while they sat laughing and watching sports on tv w/ the volume up so high you couldn't think & they loved to fight. no empathy. this series has been great for me.
lol Stef celebrates feminism then he wonders why men are not in childrens lives. Having your cake and eating it too? Might want to look up useful idiots in the Marxist play book.
Interesting the suggestion to do therapy. But i think you miss the point of freedom - its not like education where you invest money and time in preparation and knowledge. Freedom and enlightenment just *are* and do not come from "work" or "seeking". Over many lifetimes, the soul experiences different forms and vibrations - the universe is perfect, even in its defects. The human mind sees broken things that need repair. Life doesn't.
I remember some of my own past lives; and though they are no longer who i am today, but the memories are intimate. I can remember many lifetimes on earth, many people do; it depends how attached one is to the surface personality. No matter what the past is, the present is the only moment of life where we have choice and free will. We are travellers in flesh pods, and we choose ignorance.
Sorry about the word defects - short expanation defies... it was a metaphor.
I applaud your memory. I can't even remember... I forgot what I was going to say:)
I suppose it depends on how you define "ignorance". We may choose to ignore but if we are truly unaware then it's not a choice. If we choose to ignore then one wonders why. If you are born a Quaker then you might not be aware of science. If you become aware of science then you have the choice to ignore or investigate.
I eat a vegetarian diet and keep towards raw and green smoothies - so *yes*. Yes, the universe is a magical machine of complexity of light, of interdimensional profundity, silence; absence, mystery and divinity. The mind must recognize, humbly, its servitude to the profound awareness of the now, not believing its own mind-chatter mistakenly servant to sefan's trauma, when you are really the silent awareness itself in to which this entire mirage appears. You are freedom itself, not the wrd.
The word freedom may imply different meanings. It seems that what Stefan is encouraging is mental nutrition. If we are freedom itself that doesn't negate the need to bring clarity to chattering mind.
Not everyone who smokes get s lung cancer is the point I'm making. In make the majority of people who smoke don't get lung cancer so blaming cigs is nonsensical.
The same goes with spanking. Most people who are spanked aren't mentally disturb.
I think we can agree that smoking doesn't have positive health effects, but only negative ones. Just because you didn't develop schizophrenia, or psychosis doesn't mean you haven't suffered ill effects from the trauma you suffered as a child.
"0I think we can agree that smoking doesn't have positive health effects, but only negative ones."
That can be argued. Most studies are based more on quantity and quality of the product rather than smoking itself as well as other factors I haven't time to name.
"Just because you didn't develop schizophrenia, or psychosis doesn't mean you haven't suffered ill effects from the trauma you suffered as a child. "
@proffesor02 While smoking is not a practice that one could recommend rationally, it is inaccurate to bluntly state that it has zero positive effects. Study "Smoker's Paradox" for further information.
If stefbot was raised by perfect parents, would this whole video series even exist?
Its deeper than therapy - its a sovereign choice each of us makes to honour truth and love, even if we don't percieve love in a world of lies. But we are not all the same at birth - the souls are vasly different - and to treat human life like a monoculture is a mistaken premise.
Addendum to the above: I have a Defense attorney to help me now. My heart is broken...daily...and I feel she need mental health therapy...NOW....but she will probably not do that. Her father sees this heinous behavior as normal. So, in closing...there are other variables here Stefan...many...and it is not a 'slapdash' situation. Also, the courts have not mercy for a mother...that I can see. If an adult feels harassed...they will go with it. And the court covers themselves before help to mom
My daughter has an Anti-Harassment Court Order against me... She had wonderful, loving care from birth to age 16...but began rejecting her mom (me) from age 15...
She is now living with the emotional abusive rather that I left. He is better now, I think. However, she blames me for 'not raising her correctly'...and I believe she has been coerced by her own mind and perhaps her father. This court order when from 1 to 5 yrs. because I spoke up in the courtroom. Now I am in violation for contact
I found this series, and the work of Gabor Mate, extremely beneficial. The understanding that violence in any form is destructive and counterproductive, no matter the genuine motivation behind it. The remark, "spare the rod, spoil the child" is a slogan that will one day be as disgusting a remark as someone promoting wife beating. I do hope humanity at large can overcome the plague of violence in order to make this a far more rational and loving world. Thanks Stef!!*

"Over many lifetimes, the soul experiences different forms and vibrations"
How did you come to form this conclusion?
"the universe is perfect, even in its defects"
Not sure that "defects" can apply to something considered perfect.
"The human mind sees broken things that need repair. Life doesn't."
Isn't the human mind a product of life? How does life see without it?
Wouldn't you invest time and money into healthier food to be free of unhealthy nutrition?

Stef is not the first one to touch on childhood experiences influencing later life. Freud came out with that almost 100 years ago.
If you want to raise your child nonviolently, gain a basic understanding of psychology.
Become a tolerant person too. Realize that YOUR way of life might not be the best. Diversity of behavior is evolutionary advantageous.
