  • I heard this on one of my radio stations last night. Cute song for us ladies. We were all little girls once, and yes, time does go very fast.

  • one of Vals best

  • The lyrics of this song really gripped me as a young child! I often wondered if I'd missed out on my special years. Looking back on it all, indeed I hadn't!

  • Lovely...

  • yes, val doonican was probably better known for light hearted comedy songs, but this shows just how good a crooner he was , right up there with bing crosby or matt monroe

  • This brings back memories from my childhood. Found an old LP and almost wore it out.

  • It was my daughters seventh birthday this weekend, the special years are going so fast, there`s already a big girl trying to get out of the little one,and I`m scared.

  • Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could stop the clock for a while. Your almost halfway to losing her and I agree it scarey, even more scarey than their first day at school.

  • Such a voice!

  • That was wonderful thanks so much for sharing...

    Pat

  • Thank you so much I'd almost forgotton this one, but as soon as it starts the words and memories come flooding back.

  • What memories this song brings back. l can remember my mum bringing home this on a 45 record. She would play it and look me and cry. Now forty years on l understand why. Thanks for bringing back a little piece of my childhood and a wonderful memory of Mum.

  • Don't we all miss those years? Dad was right when he would say "don't wish your life away, it doesn't last very long".

We can see that now that we have gone through that 'special' time and wish we could go back again.

Childhood is such a wonderful period.

  • beautiful post thanks so much 5big*****

  • been a while since i heard this one , its like a good vintage, it just keeps getting better

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Listening to it brought the memories rushing back and tears to my eyes. Those words are so, so true ... 'slow up' 'don't rush to grow up'

  • Like the last writer, my dad died last year, and he sang this to me such a lot. As a mother of grown up children, I now understand the sentiment more fully. Thank You

  • Beautiful.

  • I've just put the tissue box away, wonderful to hear this beautiful song again, my dad used to sing it to me,he died last year. Thanks for the memory.

  • this is one of my favourite songs from him...all the more emotional as I have a teenage daughter...which shows me how my mom and dad felt (about me) when this came out

  • I'm so glad it is being enjoyed. I don't know what kids are going to look back on in their later years and would hate to imagine what they will sing when they reach pensioner and go on the mystery tours. LOL :)

  • Lovely song and appropriate pictures.

Brings back memories of when it came out.

Never really litened to the words then though, but appropriate now as I have two daughters 11 and 14!

  • tThanks for putting this on....a great song and a great singer.......brings back memories just flooding back....thank you so much Conniff44.

  • Talk about reflecting how I feel about my daughter, the song could almost have been written to reflect it. Raising her to become a beautiful, level-headed, and loving woman.... but still 'daddy's baby.' My son's not bad too. :-) :-] l.o.l. ;-}
