Think about it, folks. Cameron has proven himself to be a master with regular film cameras. The man knows exactly how to line up a shot. Why is it such a stretch that he knows how to work with the 3D cameras?? Mark my words. Cameron will give us an experience unlike any other. He's done it before. He can do it again.
Bladerunner, Star Wars, Abyss, Legend, Speed Racer were all cutting edge films but only one was well received. Avatar, while being heralded as revolutionary, just might be too much for small minded audiences. Films like A.I. are wonderful, however they don't create a warm and fuzzy then audiences might not respond positively......just a thought .
Ok, so my Russian friend's Russian friend (lol) works as one of the texture designers in WETA Digital since LotR times. From his words (and I trust them, this was no PR move but a friendly conversation), nobody has EVER seen ANYTHING like what's going to be shown in "Avatar". Basically we're all gonna get visually raped.
I believe that. Apparantly, Spielberg had seen some of the footage and was blown away by the visuals. He compared its innovation to the introduction of colour in movies and television.
lol my god dude taking a composer as a reason to watch a movie is not very convincing...no doubt Avatar will be revolutionary, but the score is hardly the main attraction for this movie.
No doubt the score is a big and important part of any movie, but you won't see trailers saying "From the director of Aliens, And the composer of Titanic" ..especially for this kind of a groundbreaking movie. The Dark Knight had an amazing score, one of the best I've heard...but you didn't see anywhere a promotion campaign mentioning Zimmer and Howard ...
The real reasons to see Avatar are the returning of Cameron, then the special technology invented specifically for this film.
actually, with both the new Star Wars movies and the LotR triology the respective composers were greatly promoted. Harry Potter too for that matter, to a lesser extent.
As for 3D - I cant wait! Ive been playing PC games in 3D since 2001 and seen every IMAX movie and 3D cinema movie made... Monsters vs. Aliens was awesome =) Now Ice Age 3 and Up!
I can't wait for this movie. I've been talking(promoting) this movie now for about 5 years. I hope it doesn't flop. Then next up for James Cameron, "Battle Angel"!!!!!!!
I'm not a fanboy, I'm illustrating actual reasons to be excited for Avatar. I'm not just saying "Avatar's gonna be great because it's James Cameron!!" How the hell would I know whether this film is going to be good? As far as I know it could be the biggest piece of shit since Gigli.

I also agree but I am afraid that this movie wont be appreciated enough by an audience.
Because lets face it most people like another poster saids here are simple minded.
And I am not sure they are able to handle what god... i mean Cameron has in store for us.

So James Cameron, John Landou and James Horner i just wonder will Celine Dion make a song for this Movie, like she did with Titanic:)
Perhaps a song that fids to Avatar would be like techno si-fi or something

Well I'd argue that in a lot of films the score plays a big part in our emotional investment in the film.
gojiraandme 3 years ago
agreed. Look at the best movie of last year - TDK, that movie has probably one of the best scores of all time.

Pah, The Dark Knight score sucked. Generic and forgettable. It wasn't even as good as Danny Elfman's score for Batman 89.

The score is always a big and necessary part of any movie.
