  • I sat down with a cassette player back in 1980 and learnt this piece note by painful note...:-0

I play it regularly, partly because I love it and partly as a test to see whether I am "on form"...

Well played. I actually prefer it slower, as per the Electric Dreams version.

  • Thx for offering this is a treasure of a tune one of John's finest IMO, will look for the tutorial for sure

  • Good job, right up to speed and precise as well

  • Superb playing, ghreat 'feel' more please.........

  • @Gibboplucker Thank You, thank you'all!!! Yeah, you're right! I have to do some more vids, there is plenty of great guitar music out there I have to break down for the community! :)

  • why does he make me want to stop playing guitar forever? the pain!!!

  • All I have to say is that whoever the one idiot who clicked dislike for this video is, is a total effing loser who's just jealous.

  • when you're heading back up - the Emb6 chord (at 0:14) you can play in open position - you don't need to do that extra fingering and it sounds better. It's the same chord as the opening chord and same picking. Try it. Otherwise sounds good...

  • thanx man!

  • Nicely done.

  • well done, amigo

  • To "coreyagraph": oh yeah, "you know you know" is also pretty easy to do ;)

  • Yeah it is pretty easy. Nice tune though. Love Jan Hammer's improvising on it.

  • fantastic.......can you post 'you know you know'?

  • Verrryyy nice!

If there is one thing I would like to be able to play on my guitar before I die, that is it.

    Good stuff :-)

  • All right. I'll make a step by step vid on this one.

Thank you all. I appreciated a lot :)))

  • Thanks a lot dear people. I never knew I had such interest in this little vid testing. All the "bravos" go to Maestro John, of course. But now I really want to post more on technique and creative/inspiration side of guitar/music. Baci :-))

  • Great job! Now.... :)

  • brill any chance you could teach the rest of us

  • Great ! I've alway's loved that intro

  • nice 1 m8.

  • Great stuff, the nylon strings plus pick sound just perfect for this beautiful intro.

    Thanks for posting

  • Really well done buddy.

  • SWEET, nicely done! A personal favorite.

  • Just beautiful! Awesome! Very nice playing....

  • Superb! Perfect transcription and execution!!

  • An arpeggio is the technique of playing notes of a chord individually, rather than simultaneously. They are not always in "order," i.e., 1-3-5-7 etc. Even if you simply fingerpick an open G chord, it fits the definition of an arpeggio, and so does this segment of Guardian Angel.

  • nice playing man

  • I tried to give to anyone interested a web address where I've posted the TAB. But apparently YouTube have an automatic block to such words. An effective antispam filter, I suppose... So please tell me how I could share this to you, if I'm not breaking some kind of rules ;-)

  • you could post the website address in the video description i believe hmm or perhaps you could type it in a really odd way that their filter wouldnt pick up on XD?

  • Just did it! Please look in the video description. Hope this is allowed :-z

  • You play this very well! Thankyou for posting. I would be very interested to see the TAB you made for this. Please let me know how I can get it.

  • Beautifull, you're really good ! Thank you fot sharing !

  • Thank you aaaalll guys! I'd like to post more... I know a lot of McL. tunes, but I have to find a way to improve the audio quality ;-)

  • greaat man

    just like McLaughlin do it

  • great playing man, and this is a masterpiece, thanks John

  • Hey, thanks :-))) and thank you all! For "hardstyle31": yes, I could make a video tutorial for this piece, let me see...

To anyone interested, I made a "tab" for this, just let me know ;-)

  • hi there its possible to make a video with an exercise explaining the arpeggio notes by note if it is possible ? thanks

  • The opening to "Guardian Angel" is among the most beautiful things ever written for music.

  • Yes really good, I know a little different way of playing it, that was really good though. Electric would be cool on Guardian Angel it it has some effects.

  • Nice job! That's one of my favorite Mclaughlin tunes. Come hang out with a bunch of John's fans here: jmforumsDOTnet there's plenty of us.

  • Thanks a lot ;-) I've been in the forum, very interesting! I'll post something else, maybe electric ;-)

Viva John, great guitarist and composer!!!

  • Did you use a tab for this or work it out by ear? Could you send me a tab if you used one, please. It would be most appreciated!

Very smooth playing, by the way.

  • Hi, I worked it out by ears many years ago, because I couldn't resist to play it ASAP and didn't find the sheet music, or tab. I know it by heart now, but I could transcribe it for you in a tab form... if you're not in a rush...give me some time, please ;-)

  • Would you do that?? Thank you very, very much!
