you know i am just 16 years old and there is a woman chanel called vitaya here in my home country belgium and it play episodes of Road to Avonlea , at first i didn't like it but now watched a few episodes i am starting to lik and my favorita in the series is hetty(jackie burroughs) and i just found out she died...
"I'll never forget the days of my youth. When the waves rippled between my toes, taking the pink and silver grains of sand back out to the depths of the sea. There was a peace then; an indescribable feeling of imortality in the ebb and flow of the tide, and the seemingly endless streatch of beach and sky. Now as I gaze out upon those same sparkling waters, I realize that youth is never left behind, but is carried always, gently, in the heart." -Hetty King
Road to Avonlea was one of my favourite serials. But Aunt Hetty was something else.......
I just did adore Jackie in her role. The character ,Hetty King was just made & cut for her. I don't think any one else could have played it so perfectly.
I have videos of this serial & watch them. I never get tired to see the episodes again & again.
I was really heartbroken to know that Jackie Burroughs wasn't there any more.
Rest in peace dear lady, you'll always be in my heart.........
I used to long for more Avonlea movies, more reunions, more stories, but now it just wouldn't seem like Avonlea without Aunt Hetty. I've never seen any of Jackie Burrough's other work, but Aunt Hetty was always a character close to my heart.
She was a dear close friend of mine for over a decade. Miss our lunches in the gay village and standing with her while she smoked, which she loved.
Found a few old pics of us at the old lab theater on britian street. I was working a show and tired to kick her out off the landing for smoking inside, till i figured out it was her, duncans friend .
Road to Avonlea is my all time favourite show and Aunty Hetty will always be my Aunty. She will never be forgotten. I still watch the re-runs six days a week on CTV and ASN. Can simply not get enough of the King family, Sarah Stanley, the Dales, even Eulalie and Clara Potts
I don't care about the other roles that she played (tho I know she was complete as an actor), she was and she will forever be my Aunt Hetty...and I know that every time I want to come back to Rose Cottage in my heart, she'll sit by the fire waiting.
I just became familiar with Road to Avonlea and, as time passed, she started to stand out as my favourite caracter as opposed to my first dislike. I regret only to have got to know her work at the end of her life. But this short time has been enough to see how extraordinary a human being she was. Goodbye Jackie!
I only found out a couple of hours ago. I'm heartbroken. I have adored her ever since I was a little kid. Such a talented actress, with those tell-tale eyes.
Ms Burroughs was a Canadian gem. We were lucky to have her, and she made us proud. Her funeral will be in Toronto, September 29th, at St. James Cathedral. The family has invited her fans. Rest in Peace Jackie. You'll always be everyones favourite Aunt Hetty.
