The southwest did once belong to mexico but when spain ruled, independent mexico only had the land for a few years and most people who lived and ranched there where spanish europeans, the mexican govt also put prices on the heads of the real owners of the land, navajos, hopi ect. paying for there scalps with silver, latino and hispanic are made up terms for europeans with native blood but who do not want to or pretend and egnore that fact they are also europeans

most of this would not apply to my great grand uncle{if that is how you say it},,,he came to US from Jalisco,,,he married his boss a rich white girl ,,,cuz she saw him working in the fields,,,,but he had blue eyes and was like 6 ft tall back then that was tall i guess,,, plus he was pale white,,,he suposedly established a town in texas somewhere dont really know much,,,my family for the most part are white as any American but never forget that we are Mexican,,,,

Thats because they are the first or second generation Mexicans. Mexicans are hard workers. I know seeing these thugs and Mexicans that refuse to speak English is a little disturbing, but I am sure that generations to come are to adapt to the American culture. I am of Mexican descent but it bothers me to see people talking about another group of people without knowing the situation they are going through in their homeland. Mexicans do want to "fix" Mexico but at this point its just impossible.

I'm so proud to be Mexican American (3-4th generation) So many people including "newcomer" Mexicans have no Idea about our history or what people like my Great Grandparents, Grandparents and Parents went thorugh. The descrimination and the force to assimilate but yet proud and happy to be here to make a better life for us. I tell them thank you!

In the USA, Mexican-Americans were classified as " Whites" before the late 60's and early 70's when the terms Latino and Hispanic were invented and created to classify us.
