  • Nice, The National

  • Dunhill standard mixture. Davidoff Royalty is delicious as well. Presbyterian, and Frog Morton of course.

  • Hi,

have you tried Erinmore Balkan Mixture? It's nothing like the other Erinmore tobaccos but the quality and complexity of it constsntly draw me in. It's just a real cool and tasty smoke, kind of like Squadron Leader but with a bit more sweetness, strength and latakia smokiness.

Not sure if it's available in the US but if you can find it (or get someone to send you some) I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

    Pete.

  • You should make sure your lovely beard is fire retardent to meet modern health and Safety practice-there is a special spray available at Tesco called lighter fluid-try it-it makes it much more interesting

  • I like Penzance with some strait burley mixed in, maybe half and half. I haven't tried that much english.

  • The very best of the English blends have already come and gone. What we all are left with now are ghosts of those bygone baccys. Welcome to 2009! I've always liked Peterson's Old Dublin. You might try it.

  • Billy Bud and DaVinci from Cornell and Diehl, and my previous favorite of Northwoods (which you tried)

  • I like the way you smoke while you talk.

Talking comfortably with your pipe in your mouth is the sign of skilled pipe smoker.

  • Like many others I recommend Black Mallory from Rattrays, as well Red Rapparee from the same blender. While I am not sure if I would call RR a English blend, it does contain some latakia.

I have not been so impressed by the American latakia blends I've had, except for some from GL Pease, and Maltese Falcon in particular.

  • 1. Balkan Sobranie No 7 (RIP)

    2. Dunhill 965 (RIP)

    3. Penzance - Tobacco Esoterica

    4. Rattray's Black Mallory

    5. McClelland Frog Morton on the Town

    6. Cornell & Diehl Star of the East

    7. G. L. Pease - Charing Cross, Bohemian Scandal

These are what I generally try to get whenever possible.

  • Well, like others, northwoods, frogmorton. Rattrays Black Mallory is nice and a bit different. Boswells Magnum blend is called a light english, but I am rather fond of it. Mac Baren's Plumcake isn't really an aromatic nor is it an english, but it does have some latakia in it and if you might like it. Good tobacco taste with latakia and a bit of rum.

  • I second the Artisan's Blend. Spicy and delicious.

  • Is that The National you're listening to? I saw them in concert over the summer, and yes they rocked out indeed!

  • Dude,

    1. Rockin Beard

    2. Has the briar on that pipe gotten darker which is awesome.

    3. I would have to go with plain Frog Morton, I also enjoy Spillman Mixture by Iwan Reyes.

    Eric

  • 1. Beard is approaching epic

    2. Briar has darkened substantially. Very cool.

    3. Frog Morton is tasty. Never had the Spillman.

  • My English suggestions are all McClellands offerings

    Bombay Court,

    AM Pipe

    Frog Morton Across the Pond

  • be honest; Did your wife or you manscape your eyebrows? JoffreTheMetrosexual hehe

  • I just have magnificent eyebrows, plain and simple. But I have to admit that I always feel like I'm lookin' pretty danged good in that sweater.

  • I will have to go back to some other videos for conclusive proof. I tend to notice stuff like this from 200 feet away. No worries, many men have caved under pressure when the wife is done plucking her own eye brows and still has some plucking left in her.

  • :D

Dude, I'm tellin' ya. The baby blue sweater is distracting, you're losing your touch!

  • Your brows are awesome. So is your beard.

I like the blue sweater. It contrasts great with your dark hair, beard, and pipe!

  • Here are some that I like in random order...

    1. Boswell's Northwoods

    2. SG's Squadron Leader (mild)

    3. GL Pease Maltese Falcon (interesting and spicy)

    4. Dunhill's London Mix is good too.

    5. Frog Morton OTT (good stuff)

I also have a tin of Penzance, but I have not opened it yet.

I really want to try more GL Pease Englishes. I hear he is really good with them. Another on my "to try" list is a Cornell and Diehl English...not sure which one yet.

  • I only recently discovered the English blends. So far I really dig Savineli's English blend. It's pretty light for English, but has more than just the standard Virginia and Latakia to add some complexity. I have an old tin of My Mixture 965, and though a little too medium-bodied for a light-wieght like me, I found it pretty satisfying. Good luck finding it, though!

  • Balkan Supreme....Squadron Leader....key largo.....Rattray red rapparee

  • I forgot in my post, but I have to second the Balkan Supreme, it's excellent as well

  • The original Frog Morton is quite delicious; plus the name fits in with the Inkling motif of your philosophy club.

    Happy smoking,

    Crow

  • PENZANCE. Complex and amazing.

  • Nightcap is the best, but I also love Solani Eng Lux Mix, much lighter and brighter. Black Mallory by Rattray's is top stuff.

  • I love Pelican by Butera. It is a original english blend: Cyprian latakia, Orientals, Turkish. The spiciest ones.

  • Squadron Leader, medium/light strenght, tangy, spicy, with some oriental leaf;

    Black Mallory, medium strenght, a little creamy, smokie;

    Abingdon, medium strenght, lots of Orientals, very spicy;

Artisan's Blend, strong, with perique added for a spicy/peppery taste.

  • spillman mixture is a pretty good english

  • I don't think you can go wrong with some Squadron Leader or GLP Westminster. For a unique take on an English, try some C&D Morley's Best, especially if you're a Burley fan. I also really like C&D Crowley's Best. Another interesting take on an English, this time with some Burley and Perique.

    Cheers,

    Brian

  • Those first two are indeed fantastic, haven't had the C&D. Thanks!

  • As far as blends with latakia in them, which I assume is what attracts one to an English blend, I can recommend some blends that more Balkan than English. Yenidje Highlander and Bombay Court by McClelland. I think Ashton's Artisan's Blend is also a good choice.

  • I'll need to try those. And I do enjoy Balkan stuff, no doub.t

  • ashons atrisans blend is a cant miss trying tobacco,,full bodied and most of time considered as a compensation for night cap

    cheers

    ahmad

  • Old Dublin. I allways got a tin of it in my drawer.

    Cheers,

    Alex

  • What band is playing? I really like them.

Penzance really is good stuff. Of course if you are ever able to come across some of Dunhill's Nightcap, well now that is the bee's knees.

  • Sad to say, but it must be admitted, I haven't developed a taste for English tobaccos, and don't see it happening any time soon.

  • McClellands Bombay Court is huge! GLP Westminster should be worth a try as well.. Cheers, Eddy

  • I am really a big fan of penzance and squadron leader. SL was really that Ah Ha tobacco where everything came together for me in an english. To quote an old review of mine, not to much of anything, and just enough of everything.

Pirate Kake by C&D also ranks high with me.
