I'm in the USA and picked up the game thanks to being an insomniac and Friday Night Footy being on at 3 in the morning. Good on ya mates, and GO CROWS! (of course I'm an Adelaide supporter---they use the US Marine Corps theme!)
You know, if you leave off the UP THERE part of the song, you could adopt this song to American Football. The spirit of the game is the same. You love it or you hate it, depending on the score. There have been days when I swore I would never watch another NFL game, but come the following Sunday, I am cheering the Chicago Bears on to victory, and hoping whoever is playing the Dallas Cowboys runs up the score!!
ahhhh back when footy was footy, not like now days, look at a guys back and he gets a free. one HELL of a song too, pumps you up big time, should be sung at every grand final!!
back when aussie football was FOOTBALL not this soft nancy panzy push and shove bullshit you get today bring back the old aussie football when you could have a good scrap and still be playing hard
Yep, this is the song to live by alright! I live in Sydney now, and I reckon it's missed out on a lot - you can't get a decent meatpie or coffee-scroll in this town for love or money, and there's nothing like VFL footy - back when footy was played by real men, and not sponsors or corporations... Carn the Blues! May the Sprit of Cazaly be with us all... :)
@MrSamt75 i agree 100% it's not even real football anymore. it's all about the money not who is the best team. eg im a north support back in the 90's we were one of the best teams but we had no supports still don't really we nearly get 30,000 supporters a year. which in like bottom 5 out of club memberships. but we put on some of the bet matches and have alot of supports. but u need to give us the right time slot eg friday or saturday nights. we had like 55,000 at etihad when we faced carlton
@0999361 the afl doesn't help the teams in debt like it use to and takes anything that profitable away from teams that try make money. eg we created friday night football and it was fair we said alright ur stuggling a bit we'll go 60-40 so we have a bit of profit and cover expences and it was all good it worked but the afl took it and only the most profitable teams get fidays nights now lik collingwood and bomers. while teams that stuggle like north, melbourne, richmond etc are still struggling
in response to "stupid Derby County" comments you should come to Pride Park and hear thirty thousand sing it, immitation is the greatest form of flattery and now the tune lives on!
I'm a pom and feckin love Aussie Rules! We don't get to see much of it over here but when we do I'm glued to it - drives the Mrs wild - sat there on a Mon night (we get it three days late here) with me bottle of imported VB and curse the Lord why I wasn't born an Aussie :( I follow the Hawks cos, besides Fitzroy who are no longer, Hawthorn are the only name I remember from when me Dad used to do the VFL pools back in the 70s/80s during the soccer close-season. AFL=best sport in the world! :D
This song should be Australia's national anthem, not the maudlin piece of shit that we now have. Oh, and by the way, rugby-loving Sydney and Brisbane people will just have to get used to it.
@brokenscimitar I have to admit I am from Brissy and I am not a fan of NRL, was devastated St Kilda did not win today, but proud they put up a fight, better luck next season. BTW I am no fan of the Brisbane Broncos(NRL)hell no
Thanks. From the opening bounce, it was like it was a different Saints' side as from last week and Collingwood clearly wanted to win. BTW, you live in a great city!
@gregorykatrina most australians have some form of noble scottish or irish ancestry so perhaps that ain't an insult (You made it that way, don't complain)
If players listened to this before they went out on the field today they would be so pumped. I'm so fired up I'm going out in the front yard now to take a hanger specky over the red head kid next door. Yeah I'm 37 but who cares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@carouselcarouse; I’m 37 as well, and I remember getting chills up the spine at the age of 4 or 5 whenever I saw this clip or heard the song. I’d then go out the front with my red plastic ball that you’d get from the servos for $2 (I think you can still buy them). They were only good for one kick and they’d have a huge dent it them. I asked mum and dad constantly for a proper Sherrin footy, but they never gave in. I will never forgive them.
Hahah Teddy Whitten 1:22 gives the player a front close line then for good measure gives him a rear close line too, note how Teddy fakes like hes been hit also. hahaha Gotta love Teddy, he was an expert at this.
Peter Hudson is the recipiant I think. Those were the days 12 results on the same Saturday, watch the replays that night on seven's big league, hosted by Peter Landy. Too bloody good!
