  • A Kenyan Must Just be beaten fist to Vacate and take himself to safety! What the Fuck is this? I wish I was there to give this man a thorough beating of his life....watu hawangekufa KPC -SINAI!

  • OK - "Hakuna mtu amekufa kwahivyo hakuna hatari..." Sasa wamekufa - there is no excuse. Residents have to be forced to move for their own good. The Pipeline spokesperson knew what she was talking about.

  • Lets blame the polititians who without logic will urge their constituents to stay put when the government tries to evict them from such places. They are now having crocodile tears flowing down their chicks. they should have advised their people to move out of this place earlier.

  • @Abedi1001 Keep in mind it is the stupid common mwananchi keeping the politicians in office, and with this video as evidence the common mwananchi is severely stupid

  • Nairobi is basically full to capacit. well, it's over capacity by at least 1000% But we still have the government approving more business to the capital city! Where will the population live?

It's time we have at least 50% off all companies in Nairobi resettled to other parts of the country!

  • It could be true that these impoverished residents had nowhere else to reside. They preferred to live at least three more years than to die immediately due to other causes.

  • @almunjama:True- KPC is innocent and should not pay a penny nor should GK reward law breakers with rent money. If i cut a tree and it falls on my house my insurance won't pay coz its my negligence.Same rule applies here.

  • Leaking pipelines are operational risks for any pipeline operator worldwide. There reasons why land may appear empty. Its sad that people died but KPC has no responsibility here. When you occupy private property, in spite of inherent risks, you assume all risks - and the risk of eviction is normally the least of them. May be the country will learn from this, may be people will realize that occupying the mau catchment will result in much more prolonged longterm challenges.

    Sad but Sekoh it

  • Haiya! KPC should not be held liable then....

  • we all need to learn from this.

  • the lady at 1.40 if now asked will say, i told you its dangerous for your life

  • So sad indeed and our condolences go out to the families suffering losses.

On the other hand, this ain't nothing yet, if the leaders in government continue running a nation like a kiosk -without any meaningful long term strategy of creating jobs in Kenya, we are sitting on another social-economic time bomb.

At this point in time, we need to focus on educating our people, not constructing roads for them.

  • you can live a very healthy comfortable life in rura; kenya...but everybody wanna live in nairobi....government should diversify investing in other areas

  • @simbakafiri unfortunately Nairobi contributes 50% of the entire national GDP because we have failed to woo investors to other regions of the country to create jobs due to poor infrastructure roads, electricity in the rural areas.

  • I am having trouble reconciling the warning and the actual tragedy

  • I will go mad if i continue watching this video.

  • @mcmagicx,I totally agree with you.

Kenyan news is depressing to say the least, nothing good or sensible ever happens

  • Literally this was singing.. fire fire fire, fire fall on me..........being sang years before. Seeing is believing and we will wait to watch another interview of why some of the people in Sinai will not vacate. Too sad

  • Given the choice between "tutaenda wapi" and death i think the former is a great bargain. Now lets mow down these tins coz i'm tired of trajedy every two years or so.And yes, poverty is a choice. If you can't pick after yourself, fix your area nicely,be disciplined & maintain demanding standards then youre poor by choice because making money takes those same exacting sacrifices, focus & discipline.

  • @rashaenka After this tragedy, these fellows will now shift from "Tutaenda Wapi" to "Serikali itusaidie" as soon as KPC compensates them, they need to clear out of the area and no new structures should be allowed to be put up.

  • You cant blame the poor, think they live in a slum out of choice? Their priority is putting food in their tummies and a roof over their heads.

The fault lies squarely (as usual), with our well paid fat cat MPS. Ministry of local authority, toa majibu.

This is tragic. Government sometimes has to protect its citizens from their own stupidity, ignorance and circumstance.

  • rudi mashambani

  • NTV you will unfortunately continue with the predictions for a looooong time.We never listen nor act as a society.Tunajua tu kupiga kelele for 2-3 days then all dies down ,till the next tragedy!!!!!!This is part of being Kenyan

  • We are country of talk, talk n no cation, the leaders watch these things and take no action. Mercilessly clear the slums for the sake of safety and saving lives. No time for talking, send the bull dozers in tomorrow and start work. This is the only way we can avoid future disasters. My heart goes to the children of this slums whose under no fault of their own have to suffer because of the stupidness of grown ups

  • @karuitha unfortunately instead of bringing in bulldozers they want to pay their rents i.e rewarding impunity. What message does it send when the government is rewarding bad behavior?

  • ignorance the kenyan way the only way! from the top(gvt) to kamjamaa uneducated in the slums.

  • It's everyone's responsibility; the government, KPC, and the citizens. But if the government had its own priorities right in the first place, KPC wouldn't have slept in the job and allowed this danger to proceed. The government should have credible structures for detecting incompetence of this nature. In the meantime, NTV keep up the good job of being the watchdog!

  • Is it possible for NTV to track down the people featured in this video and give us an update. I think it would be a good story to air.

  • That's why the new constitution has to be implemented so that people stop flocking in to Nairobi and forming illegal cheap settlements like sinai. Form county governments to facilitate decentralized development and encourage people to move away from slums into County capital cities where housing will be cheaper and hopefully jobs available.

  • 'Tuliachiwa urithi na wazazi wetu' The problem is a population of uneducated, carefree and violent land grabbers who left the rural areas spotted land, put up their shacks and invoked their right to be squatters! With an inept government led by a self centered and senile old man that is an explosive mix! Do not put the blame on the government or KPLC alone, blame your ignorance as a country!

  • @thedee254 I blame the politicians, if we had a serious government, these slums would have been demolished a long time ago. But then everytime they try to demolish, Sonko leads a mob into the city centre demonstrating against the action. Sonko depends on these slums the same way Raila depends on Kibera. Clear them n these 2 men will have lost a whole block of voters, they they easily buy for 10 shillings.

  • @karuitha Lets leave this politics & misinformation that you dwell on a daily basis & deal with the issue! watch the 2008 video posted by NTV and you will see the sheer arrogance and ignorance displayed by the residents of Sinai! Successive regimes have let unplanned settlements spring up right left and center but The Kibaki and Raila government has attempted to deal with the problems at hand but after 27 years of MOI and those of Kenyatta and the British 8 years was never enough to save Kenya

  • @karuitha In the same breath, The Kibaki administration should have acted once they took power but at the same time unplanned rural to urban migration and the fact that people spot land in Kenya and build the tin houses then dare anyone to evict them and the government doesnt respond to the impunity is baffling. Sonko should be behind bars if there was justice in this world! There shouldnt be a blame game. everyone is at fault We SHOULD LEARN AND PLAN!

  • @thedee254 slums in Nairobi have mushroomed because of government laxity, the fact that we have a weak president leading a divided cabinet, where policies are talked about in those weekend retreats in air conditioned resorts in Naivasha or at the coast at our expense yet they are never implemented. Lets be frank, politicians need these slums, cos they form a bulk of their votes. If someone in govt was serious, these slums could be done away in no time, but that is not going to happen.

  • Comment removed

  • @karuitha are you saying that if these individuals had houses built of stone they would not vote for those politicians? from 1:16 the ignorance spewed by those men and at 2:01 the lady of the year is astounding! What about these Individuals? Think about it, walk around town with your bags, spot a parcel of land and quickly put up ur tin houses and say you are entitled to the land because you are Kenyan? What about personal responsibility for a change?!

  • @thedee254 Lets agree on one thing, that the state has failed. Where in the world would you walk into an empty piece of land and build yourself a house? it shows total lack of law break down cos if the faculties of the state were functioning that would not happen. The police, the city council, the KPC and in fact the entire government have failed to stop these from happening. These poor people are not ignorant, they saw an opportunity and they grabbed it because no one was there to stop them.

  • Oh man,I remember this clip.Defiant, ignorant Kenyans.why do they keep asking 'Tutaenda wapi" Kwani mlitoka wapi? The City needs to urgently review and enforce its policy on urban slum dwelling.

  • @thuraku If I was president I would start registration exercise, ask people to bring their IDs, then next I would bus and take them back to their rural villages. If you have no work in Nairobi, then you have no right to be there, rudi mashambani ukalime.

  • @karuitha Oh yeah...the relocation needs to start like yesterday.Everyone out. Let KPC clear the leeway, inspect and SECURE the remaider of the line.

  • @thuraku we will talk n talk then another big story will happen next week, this fire disaster will be forgotten. Did Raila one day say that we will have a nuclear plant in Kenya should he become president. Oh please I hope that doesnt happen cos if we can't be secure a simple pipeline how will we be safe over a nuclear plant that can wipe out an entire country.

  • @karuitha I agree on that!...this idle people need to go back to the rural areas and do farming or something else..this has to be enforced!...

  • @karuitha Your point is spot on !! I couldn't help but LMAO.

  • They were supposed to demolish the dam slums in 2008 as per the report. Why didn't they do so??? Now look what has happened to poor people. Shame on KPC. You are still guilty.

  • In Kenya, news change in a flash. Who remembers Daegu or Hague or Teachers strike by now? This too will be forgotten just as they forgot it when they were warned. If you need a simple way into depression, go Kenya news. That is our society.

  • Ignorance will kill us, I wish people reacts the same way as they did with swine flu, kila mtu had a mask, now Kenyans claim ni "Diseal" and what about AIDS?? the same Ignorant response!!!

  • they were never evicted because a politician did not want to lose votes.Where are the city planners and how can KPC operate in such an environment.People in Kenya are not serious, and with this tragic event and the killing of the British tourist the country todayis topping in the world news for the wrong reasons.

  • Wawawa...you mean they put up their houses on a buffer zone?. This was clearly Russian roulette and the bullet this time was in the chamber.

  • Oh my word... I can't wait for these fools to start asking for compensation when they clearly asked for it!!!!

  • THIS IS THE CONSEQUENCE OF THE 'HARDHEADEDNESS' OF KENYAN PUBLIC.

Everytime govt wants to undertake a project to create order out of chaos - jua kali MPs like Waititu and Sonko hire goons to resist development.

  • ignorance is a bitch in kenya

  • This was an avoidable tragedy, but if we can't listen, we suffer the consequences, just like the Noah's floods. Am very sure since 2008 if anyone really wanted to vacate, that would have happened by now, I however do believe the government has a case to answer on cooperate homicide.

  • I will suffer blood pressure or heart attack if I continue watching Kenyan news.

  • Comment removed

  • @mcmagicx ,you are right,very frustrating.

  • @mcmagicx i think i already have high blood pressure.

  • @mcmagicx ,then don't watch,whose forcing you...

  • @MultiVickylicious Oh applaus, how smart of you to have figured that all by yourself.I will definately next time excogitate your suggestion and thank you for your assistance.I really wouldn't have thought that one out all by myself.

  • @mcmagicx,lol,glad i could put some sense into you,you are most welcome...your sarcasm.....doesn't impress me..get that!!Clap all you want.....

  • Kenyans too are DUMB. Wangetolewa, wangelia wanadhulumiwa.

  • i dont blame KPL warning was given people were being evacuated but idiot MPs from the area told people not to move eg sonko

  • how prescient and sad at the same time. rita excellent reporting by the way.

  • It has happened...they were to be evicted by the 30th of whatever that month was in 2008 nothing was done....the price for that over 120 dead

  • Impunity even at the local level

  • now they know ... the hard way!
