  • To hear him redo it recently is almost painful. We love his early songs -- the way he did them at the time-- when he had an amazing sense of rock and roll excitement. And an amazing rock and roll voice. That voice echoes still, thanks to tracks like this.

  • John spent many years, in his early career, playing "in the roadhouse.". These songs, to me, are quintessential John Mellencamp (or, as we knew him back then, John Cougar. John's Mom (recently passed away) admitted "I thought the name [Cougar] suited him". But of course John hated it. And yet, despite the name, and despite the simple lyrics, this song I consider to be one of his best.

  • Been a fan of his for years - this is one of my favorite songs by him. Thanks for posting this!

  • This song had to have been inspired by Van Morrison's "Wild Night". Heck he even covered the song later. He made it his own though.

  • Cougar was always on the turntable down the Jersey Shore in the 80's. Somehow when I listen to this song I can smell the beach and ocean in the midnight air. Brings back good times and memories of good friends.
