BTW let me reprashe about Snake EYes n Cobra Commander relationship..meant Snake EYES was a one time friend of Cobra Commander b4 he was Cobra COmmander when he first started out..that shown....CObra COmmander like Baronesse are one of the very few peo that know who Snake Eyes really is...This time when Cobra COmmander was starting out b4 he even had name COBRA>>
@265308 Sorry, but you're mixing up the continuities. The Cobra Commander from the Marvel continuity was a used car salesman who started an underground empire. He had no past relationship with Snake Eyes. Snake Eyes WAS friends with Wade Collins, who served in the Army Rangers with Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, and Stalker before becoming a Cobra Crimson Guardsman of the Fred series, and who briefly took on the role of Cobra Commander after the previous Commander had "died."
@265308 Now, as for the "Declassified" and Devil's Due/Image continuities......after IDW took over the G.I, Joe titles, they launched two new series. One was a reboot series from Chuck Dixon, which had no connection with the Marvel/Hama series; the other is a direct continuation of the Marvel series where it left off in 1994, written by Larry Hama himself, This makes the Devil's Due continuity a disavowed continuity, or "alternate reality." I don't know about "Declassified," though.
the whole SNAKE EYES connection with CObra Commander was in relation to marvel continuity n with a-okay of larry hama himself..trust me on this....Snake Eyes used to be Cobra COmander right hand man b4 the accident n b COBRA even existed....
@265308 The only Cobra operatives I know of who have a past connection with Snake Eyes are the Baroness, Zartan, Firefly, Storm Shadow, and then Destro wanted revenge on Snake Eyes for breaking into his castle in 'Silent Interlude,' so he pretty much pissed off everyone in Cobra. The only connection to the Cobra Commander that I know of is the death of Snake Eyes' famliy and the Commander's brother, but if I'm mistaken I'll certainly try to look it up.
This is how Cobra Commander got in contact with Snake Eyes in the first place cos he was the son of the family that he blames for the death of his drunk driving bro that crashed into Snakes family on way to meet him in airport..
Since Snake Eyes left Commander...he then gave the body guard position to Storm Shadow years later......
BTW anyone wants to learn how to play G.I. Joe theme on gutiar i will be posting a Guitar tutorial video this week, PLS check it out man worked hard on this,. Thx. COBRA!!!
@StreetFighter2010 For the last time, Resolute got everything about Snake Eyes wrong. Snake Eyes and Scarlett were on a mission in the middle east when their helicopter malfunctioned and crahsed into another 'copter. Scarlett was trapped in her harness and Snake Eyes stayed behind to free her. An explosion hit him in the face, scarring him and damaging his vocal chords. He then carried Scarlett out of the burning wreckage. And Scarlett is only with Snake Eyes in the comics, never Duke. Clear?
Also I did not KNow that DUKE was created solely for show but DO remmember he was not original JOE n he did not appear until him n ROADBLACK made debut in issue #22?
ALso DUKE if think about it was basically a human version of Optimus PRIME.
The bottom line is SE, DUKE, N Hawk look the same like bros...ESP SE man he looks like DUKE older bro.
N as for Larry Hama use of real life cat could that be SE real name the cat he based it on? WOneer that guy even know this?
@265308 Snake Eyes was based on a man Larry Hama knew in Vietnam named Robert Light, a door gunner in the U.S.Army Air Cavalry. He was described by Hama as being thin, with slicked-back blonde hair. And Snake Eyes didn't become a loner/reculse until after the death of his famliy. The death of his twin sister, Terri, was especially hard on him, since he was closer to her than anyone else and the two seemed to have an unspoken connection(similar to the one he has with Scarlett).
@265308 You're pretty much right about everything, but Baroness wasn't a little kid when her brother was killed, she was in her late teens or early 20's. And Hama's original idea was a SHIELD vs HYDRA comic called Fury Force, about a special-ops team led by Nick Fury Jr. fighting against the criminal organization HYDRA from Marvel comics. Marvel turned it down, but when Hama later got the job of writing G.I. Joe, he simply used his Fury Force story and changed all the characters' names.
I agree with everything except the loner/reclose part. SE was anti-social B4 death of his family by the drunk driving of Cobra COmmanders bro.
His sister looked like Scarlett. N he had a connection with her cos they were twins...nhe carried a pic of her when Storm Shadow rescued him when he got shot on a mission SE held on the pic of his sister.
If recall back storys SE only had 2 friends...Stalker n esp Storm Shadow that it..Most thought he was odd & eccentric.
@265308 And Duke was nothing more than a character that Hasbro and Sunbow thought would be less-controversial character for them to use rather than Hawk, who didn't appear in the cartoons in the final season. And Sunbow didn't want to be bothered with working around Snake Eyes muteness, so that's why his character was diminished in the cartoons and Scarlett was whored out to Duke, which was a total cop-out.
Actually DUKE was shown in season 2 but he had no lines.....this is why most non comic readers hated HAWK n hated Serpentor cos SUNBOW was showing too much of them n hardly nothing of DUKE n Cobra Commander.
My point was it just goes to show U how much an impact n ICON SNAKE EYES when U consider he never said a single word n he was overally hardly show in the entire series.. Cos most peo saw the toon most except comic readers only know these guys from the show.
@265308 Actually, Serpentor was a creation of Hasbro and Sunbow. Larry Hama hated Serpentor, but was obligated to fit him into the comics and kill off Cobra Commander. But as soon as the cartoon was cancelled in 1987, Hama brought back the Commander and had more creative freedom and control of the story. Larry Hama felt that characters like Duke, Serpentor, and Sgt, Slaughter were forced on him by Hasbro, while Snake Eyes, Scarlett, and Storm Shadow were permanent residents of his imagination.
@265308 Yes, Snake Eyes was shown even less in season 2, and Scarlett was phased out after only 29 episodes so that the cartoon could feature new action figure characters. That's why those idiotic Sunbow cartoons were nothing but 30-minute toy commercials. Duke(Micheal Bell) was featured in 67 episodes, longer than anyone but the Commander(Chris Latta). I always hated Duke precisely because he was a useless corporate character who usurped Hawk and disrupted the Snake Eyes/Scarlett storyline.
@265308 And you're right, despite Sunbow and Hasbro's best efforts to diminish Snake Eyes and sweep his relationship with Scarlett under the rug in the cartoons, he still became the most popular character and one the most popular comic book characters of all time. And Snake Eyes and Scarlett remain one of the most popular comic book couples of all time and the top two most popular Joes. Duke should have died in the cartoon movie like they planned. At least they're gonna kill off Channing Tatum.
Not entirely sure they gonna kill Channing tatum but sure as hell hope they do.
SE is the most popular character but dont think Scarlett is the 2nd most popular joe it probably DUKE or Flint.
Yep all the toon were tv commericials..But it backfired cos except Slaughter(cos of the wrestler) all these new character peo hated in the show that why the show eventuially died of no one liked SERPENTOR n esp HAWK!
Cobra Commander they had to bring back. THIS I COMMAND!
@44excalibur I'm asking about what happened in this scene in THIS anime. Not the comic books, movies, cartoons or whatever. I'm not a GI Joe nerd, just want to know what happened here in this clip.
@StreetFighter2010 What happened here in this scene is Warren Ellis doing something totally illogical. If Snake Eyes was shot in the throat, he would more than likely have severed his carotid artery and died in seconds. Also, a throat wound wouldn't explain why he always wears a mask, or why he and Scarlett got together in the first place. That's why I mentioned the helicopter accident from the comics. But the one thing it did get right is Zartan killing the Hard Master.
hEY CHIEF TELL me this one thing never could figure out is why KIMI(the lil girl at the Ninja school) who later became JINX who is Storm Shadows niece...why does she hate FIRE FLY(who was the faceless master at that time)?
We all know why Storm shadow hates Zartan n vice versa n why Cobra commander n baronesse hate Snake eyes but never got why Jinx hates Firefly?
@265308 You know that the reason the Hard Master was killed in the comics is because Snake Eyes was the actual target, and Zartan hit the Hard Master by mistake, right? Firefly was originally given the job of killing Snake Eyes by the Cobra Commander, who wanted Snake Eyes dead from the beginning. Firefly was from a rival Ninja clan, but he didn't think he could take Snake Eyes. The job went to Zartan instead, but Firefly still masterminded the assassination and planned it with Zartan.
Yes I know Firefly was "the faceless one" ....Hard master was accidentally killed by Zartan cos the hard master was imitating Snake Eyes breathing...thus errror..
SO if this why Jinx hates Firefly cos she blames him for the Death of the Hard master?
Actually Cobra Commander only wanted SNAKE EYES death only after he refused to go heel when Cobra went insane on his agenda...Snake eyes peo forget was suppose to be Cobra Commander's body guard when Cobra was formed.
@265308 Both Zartan and Firefly are responsible for the death of the Hard Master, which is why Jinx hates them both. But you're confused about Snake Eyes and the Cobra Commander. Snake Eyes was never affiliated with Cobra in any way in the original Marvel continuity. You're thinking of the 1990's "alternate" title, 'G.I. JOE: Reloaded.' Ironically, in that comicl Snake Eyes defected to G.I. Joe after falling in love with Scarlett, while Duke turned out to ba a Cobra mole. Hah.
No mate Ur wrong man In "Declassified" TPB n the Devil due comics series right after the Marvel run...n they clearly show that Cobra Commander is one of the few that knows the secrets of Snake eyes n Vice versa.
N Snake Eyes was suppose to be his body guard but Cobra COmmander who started with right idea got power hungry n went too far so Snake Eyes abandoned him the fact he blames his family for his father dead is just icing on the cake.
@265308 In the original Marvel continuity, Cobra Commander hired Firefly and Zartan to kill Snake Eyes out of revenge for the death of his older brother. Cobra Commander found out that his brother was DUI and speeding when he collided with another car belonging to Snake Eyes' family, on their way to the airport when he returned home. Snake Eyes' family were killed, but the Commander blamed his brother's death on the fact that they were "driving recklessly" on their way to pick up Snake Eyes.
Yeah everyone knows...a lil after that....is when Storm Shadow invited Snake Eyes to join the family business....
It was Hawk if recall that told Snake eyes the news....WHo can forget that scene he waiting for his family that never shows up...he lost everything all he had dad was Storm Shadow who was like a bro..n Stalker somewhat..
In he explosion of the copters crash..they all got out safely except Scarlett cos her seatbelt was stuck so SE despite Stalker order to not go back did n saved her cos he loved her n was willing to die. the problem was as he saved her n the copter exploded pieces of shrapnel hit his face that why he wears mask to cover the scars n the sound n shrapnel damaged his vocal cords. He literally a mute! CAN NOT SPEAK even if he wanted to.
What happened to this cartoon? Way better than renegades. My only complaint is that Roadblock and Duke are grim and serious to a point that it's almost laughable. At least the animate is sharp.
@randomstuffinc Ohhh, okay! sorry! ;) For the record, the comics are way better than any of the cartoons. Scarlett is only in love with Snake Eyes in the comics, and Storm Shadow isn't dead. And the writing is a lot better since the comics were written by a man who served in the US Army Corps Of Engineers. A lot of miiltary tech.
Look, I'm tired of seeing comments from all these people who don't seem to know Snake Eyes from Snake Plisskin. If you haven't read the original Marvel comics G.I. JOE series created by Larry Hama and all you know is that stupid 80's Sunbow cartoon, then don't even comment. Go on Google, look up Snake Eyes on G.I. JOE Wikipedia or go to YO JOE! dotcom and do your research -- or read the comics.
FUnny thing is SE hardly appeared in the cartoons yet who the most talked bout n most mysterious character in the entire JOE universe? SNAKE EYES. Eveyone can idetify with him man..it crazy the impact he having just on this comment channel.
Cobra COmmander wanted him dead cos he blames him for his bro death(the drunk bro that crashed n killed SE family...) not to mentioned he was suppose to be CObra COmmanders body guard..
Is this the regular origin of Stormshadow and Snake eyes or is this a revised one? I watched the original cartoon and readsome of the comics, but never saw either's origin. Another awesome chapter, thanks!
@starkid77 This is not the true origin of Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. Look up Marvel comics G.I. JOE issues #26 and #27 for Larry Hama's actual origin story. SE and Storm Shadow served in the Army Rangers with Stalker. When SE goes home, he learns his parents and twin sister were killed in a car accident and goes to Japan to train in Ninjutsu. Zartan kills the Hard Master with a bow and arrow. Snake Eyes' face and vocal chords are damaged while saving Scarlett's life in a helicopter accident.
Also the most important difference is that Storm Shadow had no involvement in his uncle's murder in the comic but in Resolute he's clearly giving Zartan the signal to kill the Hard Master. Granted I like this interpretation since it's refreshing to see a pure evil Storm Shadow (not to mention the series has so many alternate universes now).
@shuboy05 I'm willing to forgive the pure evil Storm Shadow, since his constantly switching allegiances was a little frustrating. But I can't forgive the further desecration of Snake Eyes and Scarlett's 30 year long relationship from the comics, which Hasbro has been biased against since 1983. Duke has no business having anything to do with Scarlett, as they have no relationship at all in the comics. The "just because he can talk and Snake Eyes can't" excuse already got old 20 years ago.
@44excalibur ok, I understand being faithful to the originals. At least Duke and Scarlett are slightly more believable then her and ripcord in which it was just "black best friend gets the girl."
@eastwing329 Do you know that Duke/Scarlett only happened in the 80's cartoon because of strained relations between Marvel Comics, who published the comic book, and the head of Marvel Productions, who co-produced the cartoon with Sunbow? Ironically, this guy hated comics, so much that he refused to have Spider Man as their logo. Marvel writer Jim Shooter stated that Sunbow created and contrubuted nothing to the cartoon, they just altered what the comics did and put their own stamp on it.
THERE NO WAY IN HELL THE REAL SCARLETT WOULD OF HOOKED UP WITH RIPCORD COS HE A DUMBASS ESP PLAYED BY MARLON WAYANS..COLOR GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH IT..
@Matt00851 I'm surprised that there are still people who don't know why Snake Eyes doesn't talk. The cartoons make up one lame deviation from the storyline after another for the purposes of selling action figures to kids sitting in front of the TV eating their Frosted Flakes. But the original comic book storyline is the only one that matters, and Snake Eyes lost his voice in the act of saving his love, Scarlett, in a helicopter accident. And she was never involved with Duke, either.
@Matt00851 Snake Eyes was an Army Ranger long before he became a Ninja, and he did talk when he first joined GI JOE, before the accident which damaged his face and vocal chords. Snake Eyes would never have taken any "vow of silence" or done a "ninja thing" since that would be considered insubordination. It also would have made it hard for him and Scarlett to get to know each other when they first met if he didn't speak to her.
@1stcopahittheground Read issues #26 and #27 of the Marvel comic series. Snake Eyes did not grow up in Japan, he grew up in a small American town with his parents and twin sister Theresa. Snake Eyes joined the Army Rangers when he grew up and served the same unit with Stalker and Storm Shadow. When Snake Eyes returned home he learned that his family had been killed in a car accident, and that's when he agreed to go with Tommy(Storm Shadow) and join the Arashikage ninja clan in his early 20's.
Which of course his family was killed by drunk driver who was CObra Commanders bro...n in the ninja clan the hard n soft master choose him over Stom Shadow to be the future leader...n Zartan hired to kill snake eyes in Japan but kill the master instead n Storm Shadow gets blamed.
He could talk it just that he was somewhat anti-social or the quite type so he fit he bill perfectly to be a in ninja after the accident. ANother thing is that Snake Eyes looks just like General Hawk both looked dead on like bros of DUKE so it was inevtiable he wore a mask.
Separated at birth man U cats remmeber that APril fools prank where they made inside joke that duke was related to Gen. Hawk N Snake EYES?
@265308 Well, Snake Eyes wearing a mask and being silent has more to do with him saving Scarlett's life in a helicopter accident where he was hit in the face by an explosion. And Larry Hama based Snake Eyes on a blonde haired guy he knew in Vietnam named Robert Light. Duke looking like Hawk and Snake Eyes was done by the cartoon. Larry Hama didn't create Duke, and he didn't exist in the comics originally. Hasbro thought Hawk's codename sounded too "political," so they made Duke.
Ur right but not entirely...SE was a silent soul way b4 the accident. In fact in the flash back episodes Tommy aka Storm Shadow & Stalker were only one that kinda understood him...the rest they all thought he was weird cos he kept to himself N was Anti-Social. N a loner.
The reason HAWK always wore that Helmet was cos he looked too much like DUKE. N U being a comic fan seen SE without his mask know he looks just like DUKE.
Yeah man DUKE n ROADBLOCK did not appear till like issue 22 n toon fans that hated HAWK cos he was shown in season 2 did not know he was on board way b4 DUKE. DUKE was not an original JOE!
BTW look back in the issue man DUKE, SE unmasked, and Hawk all looked like bros.. Was not cos of the toon cos they never showed SE unmasked(hardly showed him at all really..) and HAWK had black hair n rarely shown without helmet.
COME ON "separated at birth" who can 4get that April fools prank with 3 babies that were suppose to be SE, DUKE, HAWK on the comics n peo fell for it!
Not the original Origins...in the comics that the real origins they were like bros n STORM Shadow was an original memeber of G.I. Joe first team....n Stormy invited SE to his NINJA family...
Hehe, LOVE this film, but I gota chuckle when they talk about the death-strike and "responsibility stuff...They're NINJAS!! They're ASSASINS! Why would they give a hoot about preserving life? Just a little pet peeve, but hey, still a great movie.
@demboys18 Truthfully the style of ninjitsu was founded by a monk. Originally ninjas are not assassins but just trained in a new way of fighting someone. It is more of guerrilla warfare.
@demboys18 There is no "canon." GI Joe "American Hero" is just a toy. The rights to work on it have been used by many companies (comic, cartoon, movie), so there have been several interpretations. In the Marvel comics, Storm Shadow wasn't even bad, he chased after Zartan but the Arashikage (including Snake Eyes) assumed he did it. So there is no right answer. The new GI Joe Renegade has a different spin on it too. One thing I know... Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow should have their own cartoon.
@thejokersonyou Sorry, but there definitely IS a "canon" in GI JOE. Hasbro only owns the toys, which are nothing but plastic, but the storyline is entirely the creative vision of Larry Hama. Hama already had a concept for his unpublished SHIELD vs. HYDRA comic called 'Fury Force,' a spin-off of the Nick Fury series, long before he was hired to write GI JOE. The comics came first, and all but 10 issues were written by Hama himslef. He's the George Lucas of GI JOE, only a far better writer.
@265308 Well, Snake Eyes did talk before his accident, but his story is told by others in hindsight, so you never actually see it. Scarlett said that for a guy who had been through as much as he had, he didn't have a lot of meaness in him. She also said that Snake Eyes was really just a small town boy who missed his dead famliy and was very, very lonely, and that he had no one left in his life but her. So Snake Eyes wasn't entirely a quiet loner type. He just had some bad experiences.
@265308 Did you know that Duke was a creation of the Sunbow cartoon and not Larry Hama? Hasbro had issues with Hawk's codename, thinking that it was "too politically charged," so they had Sunbow create Duke as a more famliy friendly, carbon copy of Hawk. Duke didn't exist originally in the comics and didn't show up until issue #22, but he didn't have much story to him. That's why Duke looks so much like Hawk and Snake Eyes. It was all TV politics. But Snake Eyes was based on an real guy.
hahah people fighting over comics and shit. i swear, people need to realize every form of entertainment has its value, and they need to stop ripping apart something just cause it doesn't line up with what they and a whole 10 other people remember from some comics.
@geddoe316 agreed besides the old and simple storyline cartoon was around before Larry Hama's got a hold of G.I. Joe as good as Hama's comics were he made some serious screw ups too.
@BlazingSpeed No, that's incorrect. The Marvel comic book series created by Larry Hama came out in 1982, a year before the Sunbow cartoon came out in 1983. Hama already had the storyline planned years earlier as a spin-off of the "Nick Fury: Agent Of SHIELD" series called "FURY FORCE," about a SHIELD special-ops team fighting against HYDRA. Hama's storyline became the basis for the GI JOE comics when Hasbro approached Marvel to develop the comic, and it was far superior to the cartoon.
yeah i'm a big Larry Hama fan too... i think the old GI Joe comics were amazing. incredible how he sustained such characters and storylines for all those years with so many restrictions and guidelines from Hasbro...
i like this story most of the other origins of snakeeyes, i have heard ppl talk about i wish more members of gi joe got this kinda of attention with their backstories.... it would make the series more interesting... but that's just me
There is only one origin of Snake Eyes, and that's Larry Hama's origin from the comics. Snake Eyes' face and vocal chords were damaged in a helicopter acccident, he and Storm Shadow met and became friends while serving together in the Army, and Scarlett is in love with Snake Eyes, not Duke! Any other origin story is just a weak, inferior downgrade!
interesting background story, but this one is good too, sorry that the new back story annoys you so much, but i am not much into gi joe... but it's still a good story...
The Resolute story is interesting, but it's also Hasbro avoiding the Snake Eyes/Scarlett romance from the comics. This predjudice against their storyline stopped being frustrating ten years ago and has become downright infuriating now. They only do it for their own convenience because SE can't speak, but in doing so they ruin both characters. Scarlett getting trapped in her harness and Snake Eyes staying behind to save her only to suffer severe inlury is what defines both characters as a couple.
i am not sure if snake sticking around to help scarlett speaks of love, i can't say, it maybe just a duty thing, but i am not really a gi joe fan... like i said...
You have to read the actual story in issues #26 and #27. I'm not making this stuff up. Their relationship began before the accident, when Scarlett was training recruits in hand to hand combat and SE allowed her to defeat him so she could maintain the respect o the troops, even though she could tell he was the better fighter. Their first date was on the Staten Island Ferry where he told ehr all about himself. You have to read it, but they were definitely in love and eventually got engaged.
i have d doubt that your not making this up, i wouldn't think less of my trainer who last to a ninja that trained for half his life (or longer)... sounds like an interesting story about them, thanks for the info...
That was hot... When Storm Shadow is telling Snake-Eyes what they can make the school, then he gets up and draws out his sword, then he freakin does ninja moves! OMG SNAKE_EYES IS HOT!
Ahh, no. This is Warren Ellis' corrupted version, not Larry Hama's storyline. In the comics, Snake Eyes' face and vocal chords were scarred while saving Scarlett's life in a helicopter accident. THAT'S why he can't talk. This movie's storyline was changed due to the usual predjudice Hollywood has against the Snake Eyes/Scarlett romance from the comics. Think I'm wrong? Find one GI JOE adaptation that preserves their relationship faithfully in film or television. You won't find it, sadly.
Right! They are the best couple! I love them together! Snake-Eyes is super hot, this was an ok story. Cept the whole Duke thing, despite it all Scarlett sucked in this version, and Snake-Eyes was so ninja i didnt really mind.
Storm shadow always was like this honestly you just hunt for things to say are racist shut the fuck up!.It has nothing to do with race the fact is stormshadow ha salways been the bad guy really snakeeyes hasn't.
Actually shadow still was aganst the joes and was evil your saying standard hollywood story? you do know that with out hollywood ji goe would not be as wide spread so dont talk about it.And your insulting anyone who enjoys this? wow your a spiteful bitch sorry to say this is a reinvented version and it made sense as seeing as snakeeyes was getting attetion shadow would want them dead.
Actually there was an inbetween here with snakeeyes. And stormshadow was fighting with the bad guys he has always been like that a bad guy you don't like it don't bitch ok? don't cry it's hollywood hollywood made gi joe famous so don't trash it.Just go away and stop defending the bad guy.
Those who made this story "again" have made everything so simple... I mean, story of Snake eyes and Storm Shadow was originally more mixed and it had layers, nothing was black or white it all was shapes of grey. Now it is just that SS is bad SE is good... That's shitty D= Like an different story. But well, it is a different story. Otherly I think this Resolute is good! =)
I totally agree! Removing those shades of gray is way to convenient. The most exciting characteristic of Storm Shadow was he was honourable --- even if it meant defying COBRA,
well. in this version. snake eyes being an orphan child is an addition created by sigma six.
snake eyes originally had a twin sister she was killed in a drunk driving accident left with no family tommy (storm shadow ) invited him to stay with him in japan
I assume he is Japanese, because of the facial similarities of the character dedign. Dunno if he is an American Japanese though. Not really important either. No matter what nationality, he kicks ass. XD
In the comics the origin is much different, (and in my opinion much better) Firefly and Zartan are hired to kill Snake Eyes.......well actually Firefly is hired to kill Snake Eyes (since he is also a Ninja he can gain access to the school) but seeing how good SE is he knows he will need help. He then hires Zartan-who botches the job. The master starts to mimic SE's body language in a lession and Zartan thinks he is SE and shoots an arrow killing him. Storm Shadow Joins Cobra to learn the killer
SamuraiSwoosh, storm shadow rips off his mask wich means he is no longer a student and so zartan shoots snake eyes in the mouth because he knew what was going to happen and so zartan killed storm shadows uncle.
Storm Shadows motive was to prevent SE from learning the 7th step to the sun because his uncle wouldn't teach him the technique i guess its a if i can't have it moment the shooter is revealed later in resolute just watch its the guy wit da rocket gun
I have to admit, as of this episode, I'm pretty impressed with it. Adult Swim almost never disappoints. My only issue is the change to Snake Eye's loss of voice. The iconic original version of him stepping out of the flaming chopper with his head on fire silently screaming as he carried Scarlet to safety has always been one my favorite heroic scenes.
It's from his original Marvel comic storyline. Can't remember the issue number. But if you look Snake up on wikipedia or just a general web-search, you'll find it.
The image that burned into my mind from the comic was awesome though. It showed him from behind with fire/smoke coming up from his head while he holds Scarlet in his arms and the other Joes are standing stunned in front of him horrified.
i like how serious this is imagine how cool a more darker amd mature MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS MOVIE could be whoever is behind this should get to MIGHT MORPHIN asap
LOL I know some Japanese guys and they dont sound like this at all when the speak Inglish. LOL .. infact who sounds like this when they speak Inglish other than bad voice actors.
hey anyone wanna learn how to play G.I. JOE on guitar check out my tutorial on my channel> THX!

The only connection to the Cobra Commander that I know of is the death of Snake Eyes' famliy and the Commander's brother, but if I'm mistaken I'll certainly try to look it up.

@44excalibur

N the death of his family made him more recluse n the copted incident was final straw.
U also not mentioned the Baronesse connection remmber she hated SE cos she thought he killed her bro when she was a lil kid.
265308 2 weeks ago
@44excalibur
265308 2 weeks ago
@265308 Snake Eyes was based on a man Larry Hama knew in Vietnam named Robert Light, a door gunner in the U.S.Army Air Cavalry. He was described by Hama as being thin, with slicked-back blonde hair. And Snake Eyes didn't become a loner/reculse until after the death of his famliy. The death of his twin sister, Terri, was especially hard on him, since he was closer to her than anyone else and the two seemed to have an unspoken connection(similar to the one he has with Scarlett).
44excalibur 2 weeks ago
@265308 You're pretty much right about everything, but Baroness wasn't a little kid when her brother was killed, she was in her late teens or early 20's. And Hama's original idea was a SHIELD vs HYDRA comic called Fury Force, about a special-ops team led by Nick Fury Jr. fighting against the criminal organization HYDRA from Marvel comics. Marvel turned it down, but when Hama later got the job of writing G.I. Joe, he simply used his Fury Force story and changed all the characters' names.
44excalibur 2 weeks ago
@44excalibur
265308 2 weeks ago
@265308 And Duke was nothing more than a character that Hasbro and Sunbow thought would be less-controversial character for them to use rather than Hawk, who didn't appear in the cartoons in the final season. And Sunbow didn't want to be bothered with working around Snake Eyes muteness, so that's why his character was diminished in the cartoons and Scarlett was whored out to Duke, which was a total cop-out.
44excalibur 2 weeks ago
@44excalibur
265308 2 weeks ago
@265308 Actually, Serpentor was a creation of Hasbro and Sunbow. Larry Hama hated Serpentor, but was obligated to fit him into the comics and kill off Cobra Commander. But as soon as the cartoon was cancelled in 1987, Hama brought back the Commander and had more creative freedom and control of the story. Larry Hama felt that characters like Duke, Serpentor, and Sgt, Slaughter were forced on him by Hasbro, while Snake Eyes, Scarlett, and Storm Shadow were permanent residents of his imagination.
44excalibur 2 weeks ago
@265308 Yes, Snake Eyes was shown even less in season 2, and Scarlett was phased out after only 29 episodes so that the cartoon could feature new action figure characters. That's why those idiotic Sunbow cartoons were nothing but 30-minute toy commercials. Duke(Micheal Bell) was featured in 67 episodes, longer than anyone but the Commander(Chris Latta). I always hated Duke precisely because he was a useless corporate character who usurped Hawk and disrupted the Snake Eyes/Scarlett storyline.
44excalibur 2 weeks ago
@265308 And you're right, despite Sunbow and Hasbro's best efforts to diminish Snake Eyes and sweep his relationship with Scarlett under the rug in the cartoons, he still became the most popular character and one the most popular comic book characters of all time. And Snake Eyes and Scarlett remain one of the most popular comic book couples of all time and the top two most popular Joes. Duke should have died in the cartoon movie like they planned. At least they're gonna kill off Channing Tatum.
44excalibur 2 weeks ago
@44excalibur

StreetFighter2010 2 weeks ago
@StreetFighter2010 What happened here in this scene is Warren Ellis doing something totally illogical. If Snake Eyes was shot in the throat, he would more than likely have severed his carotid artery and died in seconds. Also, a throat wound wouldn't explain why he always wears a mask, or why he and Scarlett got together in the first place. That's why I mentioned the helicopter accident from the comics. But the one thing it did get right is Zartan killing the Hard Master.
44excalibur 2 weeks ago
@44excalibur
hEY CHIEF TELL me this one thing never could figure out is why KIMI(the lil girl at the Ninja school) who later became JINX who is Storm Shadows niece...why does she hate FIRE FLY(who was the faceless master at that time)?
We all know why Storm shadow hates Zartan n vice versa n why Cobra commander n baronesse hate Snake eyes but never got why Jinx hates Firefly?
265308 2 weeks ago
@265308 You know that the reason the Hard Master was killed in the comics is because Snake Eyes was the actual target, and Zartan hit the Hard Master by mistake, right? Firefly was originally given the job of killing Snake Eyes by the Cobra Commander, who wanted Snake Eyes dead from the beginning. Firefly was from a rival Ninja clan, but he didn't think he could take Snake Eyes. The job went to Zartan instead, but Firefly still masterminded the assassination and planned it with Zartan.
44excalibur 2 weeks ago
@44excalibur
265308 2 weeks ago
@265308 Both Zartan and Firefly are responsible for the death of the Hard Master, which is why Jinx hates them both. But you're confused about Snake Eyes and the Cobra Commander. Snake Eyes was never affiliated with Cobra in any way in the original Marvel continuity. You're thinking of the 1990's "alternate" title, 'G.I. JOE: Reloaded.' Ironically, in that comicl Snake Eyes defected to G.I. Joe after falling in love with Scarlett, while Duke turned out to ba a Cobra mole. Hah.
44excalibur 2 weeks ago
@44excalibur
265308 2 weeks ago
@265308 In the original Marvel continuity, Cobra Commander hired Firefly and Zartan to kill Snake Eyes out of revenge for the death of his older brother. Cobra Commander found out that his brother was DUI and speeding when he collided with another car belonging to Snake Eyes' family, on their way to the airport when he returned home. Snake Eyes' family were killed, but the Commander blamed his brother's death on the fact that they were "driving recklessly" on their way to pick up Snake Eyes.
44excalibur 2 weeks ago
@44excalibur

@randomstuffinc Ohhh, okay! sorry! ;) For the record, the comics are way better than any of the cartoons. Scarlett is only in love with Snake Eyes in the comics, and Storm Shadow isn't dead. Is this the regular origin of Stormshadow and Snake eyes or is this a revised one? I watched the original cartoon and readsome of the comics, but never saw either's origin. Another awesome chapter, thanks!
starkid77 11 months ago
@starkid77 This is not the true origin of Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. Look up Marvel comics G.I. JOE issues #26 and #27 for Larry Hama's actual origin story. SE and Storm Shadow served in the Army Rangers with Stalker. When SE goes home, he learns his parents and twin sister were killed in a car accident and goes to Japan to train in Ninjutsu. Zartan kills the Hard Master with a bow and arrow. Snake Eyes' face and vocal chords are damaged while saving Scarlett's life in a helicopter accident.
44excalibur 10 months ago
@44excalibur
Also the most important difference is that Storm Shadow had no involvement in his uncle's murder in the comic but in Resolute he's clearly giving Zartan the signal to kill the Hard Master. Granted I like this interpretation since it's refreshing to see a pure evil Storm Shadow (not to mention the series has so many alternate universes now).
shuboy05 5 months ago
@shuboy05 I'm willing to forgive the pure evil Storm Shadow, since his constantly switching allegiances was a little frustrating. But I can't forgive the further desecration of Snake Eyes and Scarlett's 30 year long relationship from the comics, which Hasbro has been biased against since 1983. Duke has no business having anything to do with Scarlett, as they have no relationship at all in the comics. The "just because he can talk and Snake Eyes can't" excuse already got old 20 years ago.
44excalibur 5 months ago
@44excalibur ok, I understand being faithful to the originals. At least Duke and Scarlett are slightly more believable then her and ripcord in which it was just "black best friend gets the girl."
eastwing329 4 months ago
@eastwing329 Do you know that Duke/Scarlett only happened in the 80's cartoon because of strained relations between Marvel Comics, who published the comic book, and the head of Marvel Productions, who co-produced the cartoon with Sunbow? Ironically, this guy hated comics, so much that he refused to have Spider Man as their logo. Marvel writer Jim Shooter stated that Sunbow created and contrubuted nothing to the cartoon, they just altered what the comics did and put their own stamp on it.

@44excalibur so that explains y SE never talks
Matt00851 2 months ago
@Matt00851 I'm surprised that there are still people who don't know why Snake Eyes doesn't talk. The cartoons make up one lame deviation from the storyline after another for the purposes of selling action figures to kids sitting in front of the TV eating their Frosted Flakes. But the original comic book storyline is the only one that matters, and Snake Eyes lost his voice in the act of saving his love, Scarlett, in a helicopter accident. And she was never involved with Duke, either.
44excalibur 2 months ago
@44excalibur well i always thought he did talk but chose to do the ninja thing by being seen and not heard
Matt00851 2 months ago
@Matt00851 Snake Eyes was an Army Ranger long before he became a Ninja, and he did talk when he first joined GI JOE, before the accident which damaged his face and vocal chords. Snake Eyes would never have taken any "vow of silence" or done a "ninja thing" since that would be considered insubordination. It also would have made it hard for him and Scarlett to get to know each other when they first met if he didn't speak to her.
44excalibur 2 months ago
@44excalibur
I think Snake Eyes trained as a young child to become the ninja he is.
And your right about the "vow of silence", but as far as him being a ninja, he and Storm Shadow were in the same clan.
1stcopahittheground 1 month ago
@1stcopahittheground Read issues #26 and #27 of the Marvel comic series. Snake Eyes did not grow up in Japan, he grew up in a small American town with his parents and twin sister Theresa. Snake Eyes joined the Army Rangers when he grew up and served the same unit with Stalker and Storm Shadow. When Snake Eyes returned home he learned that his family had been killed in a car accident, and that's when he agreed to go with Tommy(Storm Shadow) and join the Arashikage ninja clan in his early 20's.
44excalibur 1 month ago

He could talk it just that he was somewhat anti-social or the quite type so he fit he bill perfectly to be a in ninja after the accident. ANother thing is that Snake Eyes looks just like General Hawk both looked dead on like bros of DUKE so it was inevtiable he wore a mask.
Separated at birth man U cats remmeber that APril fools prank where they made inside joke that duke was related to Gen. Hawk N Snake EYES?
265308 3 weeks ago
@265308 Well, Snake Eyes wearing a mask and being silent has more to do with him saving Scarlett's life in a helicopter accident where he was hit in the face by an explosion. And Larry Hama based Snake Eyes on a blonde haired guy he knew in Vietnam named Robert Light. Duke looking like Hawk and Snake Eyes was done by the cartoon. Larry Hama didn't create Duke, and he didn't exist in the comics originally. Hasbro thought Hawk's codename sounded too "political," so they made Duke.
44excalibur 2 weeks ago
@44excalibur
N U being a comic fan seen SE without his mask know he looks just like DUKE.

demboys18 1 year ago
@demboys18 Truthfully the style of ninjitsu was founded by a monk. Originally ninjas are not assassins but just trained in a new way of fighting someone. It is more of guerrilla warfare.
Haywood2 1 year ago
@demboys18 There is no "canon." GI Joe "American Hero" is just a toy. The rights to work on it have been used by many companies (comic, cartoon, movie), so there have been several interpretations. In the Marvel comics, Storm Shadow wasn't even bad, he chased after Zartan but the Arashikage (including Snake Eyes) assumed he did it. So there is no right answer. The new GI Joe Renegade has a different spin on it too. One thing I know... Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow should have their own cartoon.
thejokersonyou 1 year ago
@thejokersonyou Sorry, but there definitely IS a "canon" in GI JOE. Hasbro only owns the toys, which are nothing but plastic, but the storyline is entirely the creative vision of Larry Hama. Hama already had a concept for his unpublished SHIELD vs. HYDRA comic called 'Fury Force,' a spin-off of the Nick Fury series, long before he was hired to write GI JOE. The comics came first, and all but 10 issues were written by Hama himslef. He's the George Lucas of GI JOE, only a far better writer.
44excalibur 1 year ago
@44excalibur
Actually all but 11 issues cos technically issue 21 the silent issue has not a single written word...
265308 2 weeks ago
@265308 Well, Snake Eyes did talk before his accident, but his story is told by others in hindsight, so you never actually see it. Scarlett said that for a guy who had been through as much as he had, he didn't have a lot of meaness in him. She also said that Snake Eyes was really just a small town boy who missed his dead famliy and was very, very lonely, and that he had no one left in his life but her. So Snake Eyes wasn't entirely a quiet loner type. He just had some bad experiences.
44excalibur 2 weeks ago
@265308 Did you know that Duke was a creation of the Sunbow cartoon and not Larry Hama? Hasbro had issues with Hawk's codename, thinking that it was "too politically charged," so they had Sunbow create Duke as a more famliy friendly, carbon copy of Hawk. Duke didn't exist originally in the comics and didn't show up until issue #22, but he didn't have much story to him. That's why Duke looks so much like Hawk and Snake Eyes. It was all TV politics. But Snake Eyes was based on an real guy.

BlazingSpeed 1 year ago
@BlazingSpeed No, that's incorrect. The Marvel comic book series created by Larry Hama came out in 1982, a year before the Sunbow cartoon came out in 1983. Hama already had the storyline planned years earlier as a spin-off of the "Nick Fury: Agent Of SHIELD" series called "FURY FORCE," about a SHIELD special-ops team fighting against HYDRA. Hama's storyline became the basis for the GI JOE comics when Hasbro approached Marvel to develop the comic, and it was far superior to the cartoon.

Jshaw71 2 years ago 4
There is only one origin of Snake Eyes, and that's Larry Hama's origin from the comics. Snake Eyes' face and vocal chords were damaged in a helicopter acccident, he and Storm Shadow met and became friends while serving together in the Army, and Scarlett is in love with Snake Eyes, not Duke! Any other origin story is just a weak, inferior downgrade!
44excalibur 1 year ago
interesting background story, but this one is good too, sorry that the new back story annoys you so much, but i am not much into gi joe... but it's still a good story...
Jshaw71 1 year ago
The Resolute story is interesting, but it's also Hasbro avoiding the Snake Eyes/Scarlett romance from the comics. This predjudice against their storyline stopped being frustrating ten years ago and has become downright infuriating now. They only do it for their own convenience because SE can't speak, but in doing so they ruin both characters. Scarlett getting trapped in her harness and Snake Eyes staying behind to save her only to suffer severe inlury is what defines both characters as a couple.
44excalibur 1 year ago
i am not sure if snake sticking around to help scarlett speaks of love, i can't say, it maybe just a duty thing, but i am not really a gi joe fan... like i said...
Jshaw71 1 year ago
You have to read the actual story in issues #26 and #27. I'm not making this stuff up. Their relationship began before the accident, when Scarlett was training recruits in hand to hand combat and SE allowed her to defeat him so she could maintain the respect o the troops, even though she could tell he was the better fighter. Their first date was on the Staten Island Ferry where he told ehr all about himself. You have to read it, but they were definitely in love and eventually got engaged.

Wikipedia is one source and if you had read the comic books you would know StormShadow was not a simple villain.

fline 2 years ago 2
I totally agree! Removing those shades of gray is way to convenient. The most exciting characteristic of Storm Shadow was he was honourable --- even if it meant defying COBRA,

I'm not a fan of GI Joe or Star Wars, but I would say that he spoke like a true Sith. :P
JedoDre 2 years ago 2
why did they have to kill storm shadow in the movie as well as this one? Though the animation has improved the storyline is kinda whacked.
sanzo24 2 years ago
You don't kill a ninja once; you must kill him at least five times
Jkuikka 2 years ago 3
There is criticism to say that "scenery expressed among movie "GI Joe" is not Japan" in Japan.
The scenery of the original was Chinese scenery.
taihuu25go 2 years ago
This is bullshit!!!!!! Storm Shadow was not all bad!!!! Why do these fucks have to change the story??????????

So that is what snake eyes looks like and how he began his life as a ninja.
TheTeenGodfather 2 years ago 3
Not at all. This is a completely different origin for Snake Eyes that has been created for this show. Snake Eyes true origin is nothing like this.
kratos2596 2 years ago
The Blind Master was killed by Zartan, and both Storm Shadow and Snake eyes trained together. So overall, it had some truth in it.
DSmoothMike 2 years ago
it's sort of a hybred between the sigma six/valor versus venom origin and the comic book one
modoflowe 2 years ago
his origin has been portrayed in very different ways in each medium he's appeared in.
modoflowe 2 years ago
well. in this version. snake eyes being an orphan child is an addition created by sigma six.
snake eyes originally had a twin sister she was killed in a drunk driving accident left with no family tommy (storm shadow ) invited him to stay with him in japan

MrMan1983 2 years ago
I assume he is Japanese, because of the facial similarities of the character dedign. Dunno if he is an American Japanese though. Not really important either. No matter what nationality, he kicks ass. XD
trustno1 2 years ago 2
In the comics the origin is much different, (and in my opinion much better) Firefly and Zartan are hired to kill Snake Eyes.......well actually Firefly is hired to kill Snake Eyes (since he is also a Ninja he can gain access to the school) but seeing how good SE is he knows he will need help. He then hires Zartan-who botches the job. The master starts to mimic SE's body language in a lession and Zartan thinks he is SE and shoots an arrow killing him. Storm Shadow Joins Cobra to learn the killer
frankensteinmoneymac 2 years ago
It actually wasn't his body language, but his heart beat that the master was mimicking, that was an great comic!
sylentbobnj 2 years ago
Good point.....yeah you are right, I remember that now!

SamuraiSwoosh, storm shadow rips off his mask wich means he is no longer a student and so zartan shoots snake eyes in the mouth because he knew what was going to happen and so zartan killed storm shadows uncle.
JONZKIWI 2 years ago 4

BlueMidget96 2 years ago 2
Wow, you got that right, BlueMidget.
That scene was burned into my mind forever...no pun intended.
jjn91270 2 years ago
wat episode is it in
skykicker1600 2 years ago
It's from his original Marvel comic storyline. Can't remember the issue number. But if you look Snake up on wikipedia or just a general web-search, you'll find it.
The image that burned into my mind from the comic was awesome though. It showed him from behind with fire/smoke coming up from his head while he holds Scarlet in his arms and the other Joes are standing stunned in front of him horrified.
