As we enter the second holiday season since Erica's passing, please keep Mel, Debbie and the rest of Erica's family in your thoughts and prayers. Her very beautiful and touching memorial, as well as her "27th Birthday" video, are just two expressions of the deep abiding love and esteem they had for Erica. Their feelings of heartbreak and loss are indescribable. May God always bring comfort and peace to the Blasberg family, and even more so at this very difficult time of year.
A very special tribute for Erica will be released on Thursday, July 14, in honor of her birthday. This extraordinary video will focus on her childhood and life away from the LPGA tour. It will feature many rare and unique photos. Erica was such an amazing person. These prodigious and personal images make it even harder to understand why things happened as they did.
A civil lawsuit was filed on May 6 against Dr.Thomas Hess for the wrongful death and malpractice in the death of Erica Blasberg. He was Erica's doctor and was fully aware of her dire mental state on May 8, 2010. It's crystal clear Erica would be alive today had Dr. Hess acted responsibly. He will finally be held accountable, as her doctor and as a human being, for failing to protect Erica. He should not be allowed to practice medicine ever again by having his medical license permanently revoked
Today is May 9, exactly one year since Erica's passing. I have never met anyone like her. Indeed, she was unique. May we always remember Erica's life and honor her for the special person she really was. Erica brought joy and happiness to everyone she knew. Her extreme kindness, generosity, loyalty and fun-loving ways were rare and serve as a beacon that all of us would do well to follow and emulate.
God bless Erica Blasberg and may her precious memory live forever!!
The first anniversary of Erica's passing is May 9, exactly 30 days from now. This will be an especially difficult time for Mel, Debbie and the rest of her family. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
@GregDucati Yes, I met Erica and it was of the highlights of my life. She was a very kind, considerate and giving person who could warm anyone's heart with just her smile. Erica was a fun-loving person who gave unselfishly to everyone she knew and even those she didn't. One example was when she gave her putter to a child at a golf tournament in Mexico simply because they liked it. There are many other examples too numerous to mention here. Thank you for remembering Erica.
I cannot begin to imagine the pain this family must feel. I hope they are able to find some peace. If the father can ever get past his denial and see how his methods (with the best of intentions) played such a monumental role in her life - it may allow him to purge some of the pain, guilt and shame he must be carrying. He might then - have an opportunity to help others traveling the same path with their kids. I see it with some of my friend's kids in these ridiculous beauty pagents. Insanity!
Very sad story. I hope her life and death will teach us something about the unnecessary pressures we put on our family and friends. It seems we forget the most basic of truths-we are deserving of love just for being alive on this planet. Our insane need for celebrity and the pressure those around us can apply can be overwhelming. Being a decent and kind human being, for whatever reason, seems to no longer be enough. Denial is so powerful. I hope those close to her will get the help they need.
@elvez1231 Well said. Erica spoke to all of us yesterday and the few words we were allowed to see were very powerful, revealing and piercing. The truth is crystal clear and undeniable. I would have to read the entire contents of all three pages to be absolutely positive but, at least for me, the mystery of Erica Blasberg has been solved. I also know what pushed her over the edge. Mel was right when he said Erica didn't have to die..Just not solely for the reason he cited. May God have mercy.
@dshep47 With all due respect to her father - who I am sure loved and adored his daughter - he is a perfect example of the insane pressures we put on performance. Screaming at her during a round - calling her a "fucking idiot" among other things after a bad shot. That's the kind of message and pressure I mean. To deny they had a dysfunctional relationship is just that - denial. I pray for him and his family. No doubt they carry a tremendous amount of pain and guilt. Especially her father.
@elvez1231 I know Mel and Debbie loved Erica with all their heart and only wanted the best for her. Mel would never intentionally harm her. Nevertheless, his teaching methods could be very harsh and "in your face" and likely caused great harm to her emotional development and happiness. Encouragement, nurturing, and listening to what she wanted to do with her life and stop the "force-feedings" would have made a world of difference. I pray for Mel and Debbie every day.
@dshep47 You're welcome. :) I favorited it and gave it a thumbs up as well. More people need to do that so more will see it. You deserve it for the work you did, and she absolutely deserves to be remembered. I'm sorry about your brother. Mine died exactly the same way David Cook's brother Adam did, after a 10 year battle with brain cancer. Adam was 37, my brother was 32. I imagine Erica is in great demand as a golf partner up there, but hopefully they can play as a threesome, yes! =)
@DougRedgold I appreciate what you did and thank you again! Indeed, many forget to rate a video they like but I don't compose them to bring any attention to myself. In fact, I would post anonymously if it were possible. My motivation is simply to help bring attention and honor to those who, in my opinion, deserve it and have touched my heart in a special way, Erica was very special to me.
I am so sorry about your brother. Mine suffered a massive heart attack.
What an amazing tribute; this video should be featured. I don't know why her death has affected me so deeply and caused me so much pain. I never met Erica. Maybe it's her young age, and the fact that she just seemed wonderful in every conceivable way. The fact that someone this *good* could be in so much pain inside, and take her own life, I'm sure plays a big part of it. Someone like Erica deserved inner joy and peace, not pain. RIP Erica, and please play a round with my brother up there.
@DougRedgold Thank you for leaving such a nice comment. I met Erica only once and it was all that was needed to realize what a kind, generous, and thoughtful person she was. She dearly loved her fans but seemed almost embarrassed when she received compliments. Erica Blasberg's life and the light she brought to so many lives is more than worthy of remembering. Truly, your admiration of Erica is well-placed.
My deceased brother was also a golfer. Maybe they can get up a threesome!!
This is the first holiday season the Blasberg family will not be with Erica. It's heartbreaking to lose a child and it is especially difficult at this time of year. Please keep Mel and Debbie Blasberg and the rest of Erica's family in your thoughts and prayers. May God comfort and keep them in the palm of His hand.
@chihuahua4618 Thank you for taking the time to leave such a nice comment. I'm glad you like Erica's revised tribute. I met her as a fan and she was very nice to me. I was very impressed with her kindness and generosity. It's important to me she is remembered as the sweet and kind person she really was and not just how she passed. This is my little contribution to help ensure Erica's life will not be forgotten.
