  • Rock on Zubernick! Enjoyed hearing about your solo Galapagos - Hawaii run. Dang I hate when you loose a halyard up the mast like that. Calls for some fancy monkey mast footwork and a double ration (afterwards....). All the best adventuring in the New Year. Cheers. Bernie

  • I did 59 days solo Galapagos to Hawaii and got jazzed watching your video. I had to go up the mast on Prusik knots to retrieve a halyard which flogged off in a squall and felt like a human bell clapper whanging into the mast then the shrouds - I saw the cut over your eye. I also went swimming while becalmed in the doldrums to see how fouled the bottom was - not too bright but I had become obsessed with knowing - you might understand. Thanks for posting the clip!

  • Thanks for posting. I woke up this cold December morning dreaming of sailing the Caribbean. Lots of saving and leaning to do, but seeing others' experiences is keeping the dream alive.

  • Hey there MrSteve,

Great hearing from you. Never before have small (14 - 24') cruising boats been a better buy. Get your $5k together, ditch the dream and get cruising! Cheers. Bernie

  • Wow, I want to do this.

  • Then go! Seriously, all the best doing what grabs you - even if it means 2 months out of sight of land. Cheers. Bernie

  • musta been an xperience, thanks for the video

  • Awesome vid, this is something I would love to do. Saving for a yacht atm. Cheers for the upload!

  • did you sail naked

  • "Imagine no people, no cars, no noise etc and in the next clip you're freakin miles out at sea!!! <<<< Just love it ! Great job.....fair winds and calm seas Capt.

  • I bought the DVD and found it to be quite entertaining.

  • HAHAHA!!!!!!!!! Love your intro!!! Sitting in your comfy chair going "Imagine no people, no cars, no noise etc and in the next clip you're freakin miles out at sea!!! Great video, thanks for sharing. And remember to close the hatch the next time you decide to go up the mast :) In a way its a good thing you only got swamped, imagine with you up the mast, sailing with a spin, big wave hits the stern, push you into a broach anddd finally a knock down. That would have been a BIG "OH SHIT" moment

  • HAHAHA!!!! love your intro, sitting in your chair all comfy going - get away from people, cars, tv, the noise etc and next clip you're on your boat miles away from everything and lovin it!!! Great video, thanks for sharing!

  • very nice. Thanks for posting this. How big is your boat?

  • Sea Bird was just over 34 feet long. Glad you enjoyed the clip.

  • that takes serious balls to leave your ship in the middle of the ocean in your dinghy. Even though the weather is calm I can just imagine quick weather change catching you off guard - arr, shes gone adrift on ye.

  • Thought I was the only nut on earth, but there is a lot of about. glad you made it. Made me nerviours just looking at that much water, water, clouds, rain, and sky, never mind for 65 days.

  • Handsome cutter.

  • He just got crazier and crazier

  • its agood thing no typhoon

  • remembering you loading up with box wine wearing the flash necklace that cougar bought you :D

  • I dont know what he did wrong but I enjoyed the video.

  • yummy fish jerky.

  • WOW, where to start?

I liked this,,,, in an educational kind of way...

Being a boating safety nut (as I call it but others would call it expert bla bla bla), I can see a disaster brewing with every clip. Too much to list but hey, like I said, this is a GREAT educational video (as far as what NOT to do EVER when at sea)...

Glad you made it home safely (so it seems :-)

Stop trying to kill yourself (get the proper knowledge FIRST but foremost, ALWAYS AT LEAST use common sense PLEASE) !!!!!!!

  • very good indeed

  • "Water, water, water clouds, Sky" lol

  • Hi sethvicious. Good luck getting your on expedition launched. Then you can make it as long as you like. Cheers. Bernie

  • wish the video was longer, very fascinating! I would love to do what you did one day

  • Thanks for sharing your great videos! I was just telling my sister about you yesterday and I thought I'd look to see if you had a any videos here, I'm quite happy to find them. I am still a bit broke here in Florida, but things are looking up and I plan to buy your book about your last mule trip soon. Hope your well, take care, Lissy

  • Greetings Lissy, Great to hear you enjoyed the videos. As per being "a bit broke" think of it like this: a tight budget makes you an Adventurer, a fat budget makes you a spectator... Cheers to your Grand Adventure! Bernie PS: the "Too Proud" book addresses the adventurer's budget.

  • always been a dream of mine is to sail away! awsome vid man!!!

  • Hi timcr60. Thanks for the kind words regarding the 65 Days video. All the best making good on your dream of sailing away. Go well. Bernie Harberts

  • great video dude I just wish it was longer.. I can't tell you how many times i dream about doing this well hopfully oneday it will happen

  • Greetings Welderman27. Glad you enjoyed the video. Now get weldin' and sailin' so you can live the video instead of just watching it! All the best putting to sea. Cheers. Bernie Harberts

  • I would not row away from my boat and leave it unattended, no matter how long I was at sea.

    Good video though.

  • Fear not TroyaE117. I did my rowing in a dead calm - with a spare oar at the ready.... Glad you enjoyed the video.

    Cheers! Bernie Harberts

  • Bernie, can you give me some details on the boat? Size, age, cost etc? Also the equipment you took and the experience you had prior to taking this on? I'm especially interested in your sleeping patterns .. how did you manage to sleep with so little physical activity?

  • Sea Bird was a 1984, 34.5' steel ketch. No fancy equipment - aside from the plastic egg timer that woke me nights every twenty minutes. I slept well knowing I was cruising on $500/month. BH

  • Although it looks difficult, it also looks very fulfilling. I wish I could afford to go sailing.

  • Best of luck getting under sail endocondor. Bernie

  • really interesting . How does he take the video of himself up mast? Looks a nice boat

  • Glad you enjoyed the footage tincoffin. I shot the mast footage by sticking my camera in a backpack, grabbing a handful of halyards and pulling myself up the mast (no mast steps)to the spreaders. From there it was just the old "one hand for the ship, one for the camera" gig.

    Cheers. Bernie

  • thanks - You must have a very steady hand ! The "singlehanded sailing kitecam compilation" also on You Tube might interest you. Again I ask how he does it.

  • This should be required viewing by anyone who thinks a cruise ship vacation is travel...

  • Great video, but we want to see the rest of the 65 days! Man, your comments after comming down from the mast are really sobering. To go from such elation to near calamity is pretty much the definition of sailing, isn't it?

  • bernie, this is amazing footage... thanks so much man

  • Thanks for the kind words, raverkiddy. See you on that dusty Lost Sea.

  • Thanks. "65 Days at Sea" was filmed during my 5-year solo circumnavigation. I'm presently voyaging by mule wagon across the vanished Western Interior Seaway. Visit RiverEarth site for details and clips.

  • Bernie,

This is a very inspiring video. Please keep them coming. How long was your voyage? Where did you go? Cheers.
