@heldinahtmlhell the images flashing behind the magnolia flower = every frame that appears in the movie .... its cool because it makes you think of the film as a totality... this is 'magnolia'....etc.
Notice how the Camera MOVES VIOLENTLY until it gets to John C reilly´s part while he´s at his house getting his day started, there the camera becomes static and calm then as soon as he goes out to the ¨world¨ (to his police job) where his stresses and lonely, the camera starts moving Violently again! Genius man...
notice how claudia's panting as she has sex continues to play over jimmy gator's introduction. the panting then becomes the panting of the woman jimmy is fucking. the big reveal of jimmy's pederast past is foreshadowed the first time you see the characters. editing tells the tale.
@theRADteepee PTA's fingers are all over this decision. having the audio from one character introduction continue to play under the following character's introduction is used a few times in this sequence. this shows the connection between each sequence. so when tom cruise's seduce and destroy speech plays under claudia having a non-optimal sexual encounter, we know the thematic connection between these two stories. also, multiple audio tracks played at once happens everywhere in this film.
One of the most powerful cinematic experiences I ever had. Not Avatars and Transformers can match the power of this film.

The woman JC Reilly wants in his personal ad is the polar opposite of Claudia.

@theRADteepee He edited it himself, didn't he? Wrote, directed, edited, did the poster. Even ground the lenses used from his own bone.
