What the hell are u talking about crisisrap08. U sleeping one of the most intelligent rappers in the game! Perhaps they are too intelligent for u. Step yo game up!!!!! I tired of muthafuckas saying these type of rapper aint good. How u gon say conscious rapper do it for the money. Alot of them don't have high record sales, but they still do for the love of it!!!! Get the fuck outta here!!!!!!!!
yeah that must be it... im not smart enough... or am i too smart to know that every concious rapper (talib, common, mos def) sold out and are in smoking aces, 16 blocks and doing universal mind control? and making sell out tracks like hot thang... Get your shit straight homie and realize that it aint nothing but a gimmick like politics
and thats where we as listeners make a choice. we can buy in to that garbage, or glue ourselves to the real hip hop naw mean? real hip hop to me is spreading a message that matters, or peeps can relate to. its about poetry. to be a good rapper u need to be a poet, and u cant argue that. ur shit's gotta have substance. mind you, most rappers wanna make that money, so they go the bullshit route. if u wanna change the game, LISTEN instead of dance, or just nod ur head to REAL hip hop. peace.
whats wrong is that conscious rappers (although i think there are plenty of other rappers that are more conscious than those two) doing pop records is that they hate on most mc's that do shit like that in their previous records and now their doing it themselves
dont defend them. if you get defensive it shows insecurity. some of my favorite mcs have done dumbass tracks but i dont defend them
i don't think that "conscious rappers" are hating on anything conscious rappers are saying that when every song is the same pop bullshit then it's wack but at the same time they have to sell records too it would be a waste of time and energy to put out an album that doesn't sell so their single may be pop but on the album there is substance too it's about bringing your music to a wider audience not selling out and I can't speak for others but i defend artists because i'm an artist and a real fan
why do people care if hip hop is dead. we still got music from the 90s thatll never go away. people always think that hip hop has to have some significant message or that it has to be socially concious. some of the greatest songs ever have been about just havin a good time. To be honest i dont think people like mos def and talib kweli and common are really that tight. i prefer shit like redman biggie, wutang, and the pharcyde. dont come at me with that socially concious bullshit either
thanks for not pulling that whole "Real Hip hop" on me haha. but yeah i just hate when they say that hip hop is just one thing like socially concious or gangsta rap. all those subgenres whether you like them or not, make up what hip hop is. my definition of real hip hop is artists not worrying about sales and making the music they like without the influence of anyone else
Well...hip hop is not dead, its been living underground...people that are ignorant and can't think for themselves say hip hop is dead...and yes hip hop should have a message and i agree with you that real hip hop has come out with great songs that talk about just having a good time...but the fact that you say that hip hop should not have a message at all, tells me that your ignorant and with that being said lets erase public enemy from real hip hop history, right??
i didnt say that hip hop should only be about having a good time, im just saying that there are some people who think that non concious hip hop is bullshit when really its just as good if not better. i personally think that concious rappers are out for money just as much but thats my opinion. But dont call me ignorant i know my shit man
and btw i dont think that underground shit is all that good for the most part. its just a bunch of punchline rappers. there are some exceptions of course but not alot of rappers or producers are making me say whoa!
thats what im looking forward to doing cause i love hip hop from 73 to now and everywhere i go i find my self talking about the history of hip hop from Kool Herc and the block parties in 73 to the new artist and Djs of today so ima find a way to do it cause i love talking about hip hop cause its my life i breath it to the fullest but anyways shout out to Zulu Gestapo, BX Zulus the whole UZN
it's not about hiphop...it's about rap music.....rap killed the element of mcing which doesn't live in a mic booth in a studio but on stage....with real mcees performing routines and choreography to the breaks being spun by a dj...not no rap instrumentals..it#s a shame to talk about Bambaataa and NWA in the same sentence.......
Hip-Hop should be explored in schools for several reasons. For one, it's an open forum of communication among students. Everybody can contribute something. Everybody can learn something. It's up to the people who care about Hip-Hop to get something started at your school or in your neighborhood. If you're fed up with garbage on the radio, do something positive about it. I did. I work as a Hip-Hop Instructor at the college level. Trust me. The schools need it.
hell yeah they should offer these classes in other colleges and DEFINETLY IN HIGHSCHOOL thats where mos of these young dudes go wrong and get it messed up if we had a class that educated people on real hip hop that early on then we wouldnt have most of the garbage that u hea ron the radio and hip hop wouldnt have such a negative image
I second that. The south peaked in the game with good music when it was Outkast and Goodie Mobb with the whole shit on they shoulders. Now, it's just an explosion of garbage comming out of that area. Similar to the West Coast explosion in the early and mid 90s of cats with big ego and little talent. It's a shame, because I know there's intelligent artists down there with something to say...
don't diss the west coast. it was a different type of music. it was more hardcore. there were come lyrical cats such as kurupt, above the law, snoop etc. the east and west coast are great in their own way. even the old south like geto boys, ugk, outkast. it's the current artists from the south that have little talent.
hip-hop is a a form of storytelling of urban life and poverty. rap tends to be more hardcore in the beats and lyrics and does not have as much substance in the lyrics as hip-hop does.
You are an idiot, have you not heard songs like 25 Lighters? You're ignorant you obviously don't know your hip-hop history, don't comment if your gonna say stupid shit.
IMMA TELL U RIGHT NOW WHY TRUE HIP-HOP IS SINKING LIKE THE TITANIC 1 by 1 LILWAYNE!,T.I,D4L,DEM FRANCHISE BOYS,YOUNG JEEZY,GORILLA ZOE,YOUNG JOC,LIL BOOSIE,SHOP BOYZ,AND THE LIST GOES ON ITS NOT A TARGET TOWARDS THE SOUTH OR NOTHING BUT LYRICALLY THEM BROTHERS AINT WITH IT IM SORRY WHOEVER GETS OFFENDED CAN KISS MY ASS THEY JUST AINT COMING WITH IT THEY GIVING THE SOUTH A BAD NAME MAKING IT LOOK PUSSY SOUTH NIGGAS NEED TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND KILL THAT WACK ASS NOISE FORREAL!

James Brown influenced hip-hop but he did not "create" hip-hop....his music is straight soul funk!!! He influenced so many genres of music its not even funny, he influenced everything from jazz, rock, r&b, soul, country, blues, funk!
...but based songs like "Get up, get into, get involved," and "Say it loud" the man is rapping. Whether we agree or not, he doesnt get the credit he deserves.
yeah, but you could argue that with Isaac Hayes "By the time I get to Pheonix", you could argue that with Barry White "My First, My Last, My Everything", you could argue that with most George Clinton Parliament/Funkadelic songs...hell you could argue that with some Johnny Cash tunes, esp. "A boy named sue." The real point is it wasn't just one person who created hip hop, it was whole group of people influenced by a whole different groups of music and putting it together.
Also, in the early 1980's, there was a massive migration of Jamaicans to New York, notably the low-income burrows. You can hear it most obviously in some Scott La Rock-produced songs from that time period which utilize samples from Junjo Lawes-produced early dancehall songs, backed by the Roots Radics band. I consider the Radics to be essentially the first "hip hop" band; Flabba Holt was maybe the first guy to get that huge bass sound that everyone seems to want now.
hiphop didnt start with public enemy. Nor did it start with common and mos def. Hip hop is an artform built upon limited resources, and it's musical stylings are rooted in disco, soul and funk. Rap music is disco minus all of the glitter shit that was prevalent in that genre. The jiggy shit you see today is just hiphop with alot of disco influenc, which is something the forefathers hated. all that rap vs hiphop bullshit is just some divide and conquer technique created to destroy our culture.
man you need to research your shit i dont think you have a clue what your talking about... man your naming out emcees for first thing.... hip hop mostly started with djs... rap and hip hop are different... rap you hear... hip hop you feel
why would you take this class bluh bluh.. the question is why wouldnt you.. this knowledge is dying sadly to say... well not dying true hip hop just went underground again so its kinda hard to find that underground for the kids coming up... knowledge is power if they know the hip hop culture they can use it as a tool in ways they choose to express themselves
He was just talking about N.W.A. which is a west coast group.. So its not just east coast. hip hop is about getting your mind well rounded, that is to say, the artist are actually attempting to get you "hip" or up to date on the state of affairs that deal with urban life and the socio-political problems that complicate that urban life... rap is the hub, hip hop is the spoke if you will... that crunk ish or even Three Six Mafia is rap.
