@brighamosity2 Well this is a "Dox" documentary as its called here in Sweden and this one is 1 hour and 30 minutes long. So its a story spanning several years of their lives.
As a former member of a cult, not this one, my heart is happy that someone has helped these children escape and be who they were created to be. So sad for those who chose the wrong direction with freedom. Thanks to Jeremy Johnson and family! There's a special place for those who help set them in the right direction and give them a future!
LOL omg are the LDS that thick headed? It's on record that Joseph Smith had many wives. In fact if you look at the theachings of Smith and Brigham Young they said as well as other "prophets" of the church poligamy is essential for godhood. Why are LDS so afraid to deal with this? it's in their own publications...
ha ha sorry man your reading the wrong church history. what happened is again joseph smith had one wife when he got murdered his wife rebeled against the lds church because their son was not chosen to ne
@sophinator8 Later on, two of Joseph Smith's grown sons, who'd stayed with their mom in Missouri, came to Utah to try and tell that to the Utah Mormons. Many women in Salt Lake who had been wives of Joseph Smith came up and told their story, and the young men were horrified (and still in denial).
Sorry, you're wrong again. Way off. Joseph Smith's second wife (after Emma) was his 16 year old housekeeper whom he married to himself in the barn behind his house. True. He ended up having 34 wives, two of them were 14, a few of them were married to other men at the time. This is fact and well known, even among the church. You really need to do some more reading.
Also, Joseph's wife did not start the FLDS, she started the RLDS.
@sophinator8 Uh, Smith had a whole mess of wives at the end of his life and brief tenure as "Prophet," Emma was outraged the whole time about his doctrine of plural marriage, and she split from the church after her husband's death because his advisors, who were each scrambling to become "Prophet," insisted on continuing with plural marriage. Her son was not chosen to lead because he was only eleven when his father died.
Have Mormons ever even read Joseph Smith's "manifesto"? Have they read Section 132 of the Doctrine & Covenants? Emma fell away from the Mormon Church, and was not even considered a "Mormon" when she died. Joseph Smiths other wives kept journals about their encounters with him. Even Emma herself made several statements regarding the fact that she was unhappy with Joseph's other marriages.
@sophinator8 You couldn't be more wrong. Do you even know your own church history? Have you read Joseph Smith's "manifesto"? Have you read Section 132 of the Doctrine & Covenants? Emma fell away from the Mormon Church, and was not even considered a "Mormon" when she died. Did you know all of that? Joseph Smiths other wives kept journals about their encounters with him. Looks like a documentary I will want to see. The Book of Mormon is a Satanic Trap. Joseph Smith was a very evil man, who has led all sorts of people right down the broad path that Jesus talked about that leads to real destruction.
I would really love to watch this movie, but I doubt it'll make it out to Oz. I do wish the industry would catch up to fill this gap; I'd happily pay $10 to download and watch it legally.
It's too bad that there isn't more cooperation between the mainstream LDS Church to accept children who leave the FLDS community under the condition that they will be able to maintain contact with their families and remain respectful to those that remain in the community. It would be better for all involved. The LDS Church may already be doing that, I don't know.
When the government takes a punitive approach it just seems to make things worse for everyone.
@CanadaIndieFilm The LDS church and FLDS church have little to nothing to do with each other. The LDS church would totally accept these kids if they wanted to be members of the church, it's the FLDS communities that they've left that have shunned them and cut off all contact. Just for the record.
You are quite different in dress and culture but have the same history. Read the Mormon history you will see what Warren Jefffs and others get their beliefs by looking at Smith and Young. I started reading and searching the historical church documents and doctrine then knew I could never be LDS again. When I left the LDS church I was treated the same as these boys. I don't regret leaving the church, and I have found Jesus. He is all I need. Prayin' for you.
I saw your film last night in Calgary at the showing. You are all young men now and should be veryproud of yourself for the great progress that you have made and the wonderful and rich new life that you are all creating. Stay together as you are now family for each other. All the best!!
