While I endorse the feeling that motivates this rant, my intellectually-driven liberalism makes me wary of attempts to launder language, lest a new "politically correct" vocabulary be established in the manner of Orwellian "Newspeak." We humans are individuals who evolved living in small groups, and the category of "The Other" is not merely hard-wired in each of us, but is basic to our ability fend for ourselves in the world. What if tolerance is not the natural state of being? A bear can be made to ride a bicycle, but it's not what it was made for. Perhaps, if we constantly wish to revert to a non-tolerant state, this is our natural norm.
