  • @267Eric hahaha he really loves what he does

  • "We Never Change" by Coldplay at the end?! Unreal.

  • check my cover

  • He makes music with love

  • @cristiano4music I think you mean he makes love with music

  • @267Eric Either one. He loves music, and he also sticks it in music's love hole.

  • what he do in 2:30 ??

  • @juniorpeluso ultimate guitar has the tabs for it

  • anybody know the chords or tabs for this??? :/

  • What word can I use to explain this man? Just Thank You John Mayer

  • Definitely one of his most underrated songs.

  • Colplay!!

  • i loved this album in highschool. he lived in atlanta and wasn't on the radio or tv or anything yet, but had a following. his personal life is what it is, but the guy is amazingly talented.

  • woww !! coldplay

  • And i want to live in a wooden house, where making more friends would be Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeasyyyyyy.

  • u can realise how clever he is by just looking at the chords he uses..amazing

  • @stfuuuuuuuuu

ahahahahahaha you dont have to be clever for make good music ?

  • @justinjonkmanbcn whats your point

  • @justinjonkmanbcn You have to clever music-wise, so he is clever.

  • good artist just don't like his sound i would kill to play like him though

  • Watch my videos for John Mayer covers!! :)

  • MY FAVORITE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE THIS SONG AND WELL OF COURSE I LOVE JOHN MAYER TOO

  • i love how he throws the coldplay bit in there.

  • Wow, this must be the quietest John Mayer show I've ever heard. I'm surprised the crowd isn't screaming like crazy. Was this before Room for Squares came out?

  • @SirFunkyPeacockMagic I believe RFS was a month from being released by Columbia, and he was touring to promote it. Most of the world didn't know who the fuck John Mayer was at this time... boy were we missing a real talent all those years.

  • @Kidneybros dont we all

  • i am 100% country and don't like rock but whatever he is rock/pop/Coffey house lol he is the best at it

  • Pretty simple chord progression but it just seems to ring beautifully in the ears.

  • @jgolf1446 i wrote a song the other day and i was pretty pleased with it until i listened to this again and realised i'd ripped the entire progression, no wonder i thought it was so good, great song by jm

  • @ajfindlater My feeling is everyone rips something from someone so whatever... transpose it to a different key, change the strum pattern and tempo and call it yours...most everything I do "originally" sounds like Dave Mathews, Jack Johnson or John Mayer... what you gonna do..

  • OOhhh! Guys I'm about to cry... ** Not myself is a great song (all of JM's are great...) but from 3:35 there's another magic and fantastic song from Coldplay! ** <3

  • Great old school John. For those wondering from before, he is playing his Dave Matthews signature Martin guitar. the DM3MD. Through the soundhole, you can see the 3 piece back that is characteristic to that guitar.

  • @MrJsloop Ironic, now he's arguably bigger than Dave Matthews ever was... and he has multiple signature models now, lol

  • this song, this album, brings back a lot of good and bad memories in highschool. :)

  • hands down, the best guitarist of his generation. and one of the best EVER.

  • I wanna live in a woden house where making more friends would be easy.........

  • is it just me or does he slowly speed up through out the song?

  • love the coldplay reference in the end. fits so well.

  • favourite musician gotta love john mayer ayeee

  • the five ppl who disliked it shud listen again! He's one of a kind... the song lyrics has a great meaning.

  • his talking voice sounds different.. or maybe it's just me.. :)

  • I really like Continuum the Most. followed by Room for Squares, then Battle Studies and finally Heavier Things.

  • I miss this john mayer. Not that I don't like the John Mayer of today; I just like the young, new, fresh John Mayer a little bit more. There's just something about it.

  • @Fleezyy hey dont get me wrong, what im tryin' to say is if u really like him dont just like him before like him forever... =))

  • John mayer is the most talented human being i've ever seen and suits my music taste perfectly! :)

  • love his strange facial expressions

  • My very first JM song. So beautiful, I'm surprised it wasn't more popular. And he never plays it live anymore-ever! :(

  • FAVOURITER JOHN MAYER SONG, love all he does but this song, to me, is so pure and so truthful and heartfelt and you can feel his passion yet his insecurities, maybe you can only produce that typr of music at the start of your career, but damn i keep on coming back to this song every single time, to soothe me, chill me out or just enjoy.

  • I agree.

  • Does anyone know why he starts singing the last part of Coldplay's "We Never Change" at the end? Also I agree about his older stuff being the best. Room for Squares was wonderful and I think Heavier Things might be my favorite out of all of his albums.

  • @bramshlam09 i think its just because he is a big fan and it happens to fit in really well, love his early stuff

  • These chords are almost the same as the ones he used in Love Song For No One, no biggie, for i LOVE these chords, they are so beautiful :D

  • I loved his older stuff. I also loved his album Continuum, but I'm not a big fan of his newest album Heart Break warfare. Most of it's techono.

Maybe it's just me, but his newest stuff is really weird. Anyway I loved htis. And the Dave Matthews signature model gave it a kick to. They just have a really good sound to them.

  • @Musicloverlife1 his newest album is named "Battle Studies" . and it's defenitily not techno ! most of it is blues and pop/rock !

  • Amazing!!!!

  • He's playing one of Martin's 234 Dave Matthew's signature models that were very limited which John owns or at least used to. You can see it in a lot of the early performances.

  • what martin is he playing here??

  • Perhaps his own signature guitar, the OMJM John Mayer.

  • seriously... its a martin D-28 this was recorded in 2001 john didn't have his signature until contimuum was released

  • Comment removed

  • @OwensMusic1 no its not does it look like an OM? no its a D meaning dreadnought, its a dave mathews signature, sorry but i hate ppl answering with stupid answers

  • genius..oh john dont ever mayer a simpson chick...mayer me xD

  • lol.....if u were on facebook, i would have 'liked' that

  • I love Johns old stuff. Seems simple, then he gets into ridiculous bridges I can hardly play!

Pure talent sir. Thanks for the music.

  • He uses very interesting chords though, so that in itself isn't really simple.

  • @bahaanaldo i dont knw! nothin john ever played seemed simple to me.. was always a challenge.. but i like his chord work.. gives a great insight into blues and bit of jazz as well..

  • I LOVE YOU SO MUCH♥

  • haha yes, these are the best chords ever. its like he takes a chord, and breaks it apart and experiments around with it. i love it, so inspiring.

  • Ha Coldplay shout out! i love how he adds "We Never Change" lyrics right at the end

  • has anyone noticed that he always does really weird chord combinations for his songs? like that one weird chord in clarity at the beginning, and in why georgia when it goes "kind of morning that, lasts all afternoon. just stuck inside the gloom"

  • yep i know exactly what you mean, not just your simple bob dillon or avril lavigne!

  • Oh my god how the hell could you compare Bob Dylan to Avril Lavigne? The first one is waaaaaaaaaaay better.

  • woops, big mistake,, Bob Dillon rocks, what was i thinking!?

  • thats because he's a genius (=

  • you mean the... BEST CHORDS EVER?

  • Oh, & seeing him playing the guitar just makes me want to learn so badly even though i completly suck. Its so beautiful

  • You should totally go for it. I haven't even been playing for half a year and I think I could learn this in about 10 minutes or something. It's that easy once you understand it!

  • Oh really?!

    Thanks! Ill start learning then.

    :)

  • learning the chords for this is SUPER easy, but playing it the way he does just isn't :(((((

  • Haha I know. xD I think the most impossible thing I ever tried was the slap and play thing he does in Stop This Train and Heart of Life, where he hits a string while he's slapping the guitar, it's craaaaaaazy.

  • amazingg.

  • So do I!

  • He' s just irresistible! I love him!

  • As John Mayer clearly stated on his Trio album, " Who did you think I was?" He is a creater, an artist that other artists love to follow. He is fun to them. That is why John Mayer's career will never fade. Another music genius!

  • the 'we never change' by coldplay transition was perfect.

  • my all time favorite song.. love it. john mayer is sex.

  • Im 95% positive that hes using the Dave Matthews' signature Martin

  • OMG!!!!! my best song ever..long live john mayer..lol \m/

  • beautiful.

  • This,people,is music.

  • this song is so great... it gives me the chills, I don´t have anything associated with it, but it makes me feel something very powerful

  • I am the one who shot this series of videos at Tower Records. Video sharing technology and options have certainly matured since 2001, so I may end up posting some higher-res versions (if I can find the time). Anyone who wants to advise me on how best to do this, I'm all ears. I shot it on miniDV.

I didn't realize this footage had been posted to YouTube by others - it's good to see that people are enjoying it!

  • Good job JC... I love this song...but I also get weird sensation , in almost his videos, live show.... his face, the way he enjoying the song is so...sensational ,... lol :)

  • just john mayer...

    awesome...

  • His acoustic guitars make my heart rate speed up. I want one so darn badly.

  • john mayer is just the best....

  • Lol.. I like John Mayer, I think he is a great guitarist, but i have to say... His face gets so ugly when he sings lol

  • Yeah but listen to the voice that emerges :P

I think the beauty as an artist comes from his unique voice and his facial expression is just as unique ;):P

  • Just goes to show he's a true artist when he isn't self conscious about about whatever face he's making and just focusing on the music.

  • he doesn't like to watch playbacks of himself singing, surprising. He is very ashamed of his faces lol. Luckily, that doesn't stop him from making awesome music.

  • I love this song, it always makes me smile. Love john mayer

  • Actually, I'm pretty sure this was just a promotional thing. His actual shows were in theaters around this time, and this was a morning promotion show to sell records and tickets.

  • Its amazing how far hes come.

From playing in a record shop to selling out places like webster hall in only 7 years

  • And what about checking Jenifer Aniston?! ;)

    Yes.. he's okay!!

  • hahaha kudos to Mr Mayer!

  • MAD PROPS! :P heheh

  • @l2read thumbs up for that :)

  • what are the lyrics to that last verse he added in?

  • Part of the lyrics to Coldplay's song We Never Change.

So I wanna live in a wooden house,

Making more friends would be easy.

  • this looks like before he even got famous, you know, to get known around places.. no matter, loving it :) he improved a lot since ofc, but no matter, i still love this song (easy to play though, but guess that's part of the brilliance)

  • dude his vocals have gotten soooo much better since then.

  • excuse me but i do not find this language appropriate at all. there ARE kids who read these boards you know.

  • its like the easiest john mayer song to play

  • love the coldplay part in the end!

  • awesome!

i recently learned to play this song on guitar. :o

  • when was this?

  • 2001

  • lol it only said 6/30/01 in the beginning...

  • its so beautiful.

    nobody can play like him.

i literally have tears in my eyes.

  • I LOVE this song. his best song, definatly. I love how into the music he gets, hes sooo awesome.

  • I love his facial expressions.. he gets so into it. Best musicians will make the weirdest faces! Awesome

  • This must hae been quite early in his carrier?

So low-key - fantastic as his general musi quality. Brilliant.

    -Ana

  • ele eh perfeito

  • This has to be one of my favorite John Mayer songs... It's really easy to play too. :)

  • This song is so lovely, they play it in How to deal :) A movie with Mandy Moore and Trent Ford.

  • OMG! I love this movie and I have it on my DVD collection!

  • Me too!! :D

  • best version ever. i'm playing it tonight

  • This song is so effin beautiful!!!

  • He sings a bit of Coldplay's We Never Change at the end! John Mayer just got cooler.

  • I want that guitar... the Dave Matthews Signature DM3MD by Martin. He's lucky to have it.

  • he plays a part from a coldplay song in the ending..I think..:-D

  • If I had to pick a fav Mayer song, this would be it...but as it is...all are awesome.

  • Is that you voice? It sounds just like John Mayer! Awesome!

  • Uh, wah? This IS Mayer, buddy.

    Good old Mayer.

  • it's crazy how he can makethis simple song become very advanced. he just got this uique way of hitting the strings. he wasn't a pro at singing though back then, and sitll isn't :D

  • john mayer is soo talented man...this song is amazing too...it's simple but sounds great he should play it during some of his concerts or something

  • awesome!!!!

  • haha, i think i was there at towers for this... good times!

  • song brings back memories (:
