@fraroc Not agreeing with you that Eddie was better than Randy is not knocking Eddie. Eddie made a huge impact and I'm still a huge fan. I listen to the 1974 bedroom recordings of Eddie and I hear brilliance and originality in the rhythms and you hear a God in the making, I just have never gotten chills or goosebumps from hearing ANY other guitar player except for RR. Sorry man, I was hooked from the beginning, no disrespect to you, you have taste or you wouldn't be watching this vid
Randy was much more musically educated than EVH though. Could never get into the EVH thing, always felt like I was just listening to loud noise..... No offense Eddie.. and those to albums with Ozzy were orchestrated very well, due to Randy's limitless knowledge of music theory and how to apply it to his own music.
@MrDeeno11 I never got into Van Halen because they weren't proper metal. They were to happy and prancy, it's there fault for shitty GLAM music. Like Angus Young said, "Van Halen are more of a pop band." Plus, Eddie pisses me off because everyone thinks he's so amazing, when there are much better guitarists than him. Same with Slash. That was kind of off topic, oh well.
Hey Look. Randy Rhoads was a great, bar none but we should never forget Michael Schenker-Uli Roth. We are talking about rock guitar players right? I loved Randy so don't spit at me but some of you are lost and don't want to realize that even though he was a great player, there were numerous players before him that were and still are killing it. Eddie had his day and his demons got the best of him. I don't know if Randy was an innovator but def a force to be remembered and respected.
@harveydents ...only a fuckin idiot would say EVH was overrated. EVH was one of only a very small handful of guitarists that changed the way guitar was played. You might not like Van Halens music but to say Eddie is overrated is very, very, naive. He is a true innovator of guitar playing. ps before you start your yapping, I think Randy is a guitar god. I`m just not that fuckin blinkered or ignorant. Thank god both of them picked up the guitar.
i still think Eddie and Randy are both the most original guitarists ,especially for that time ,but also their enthusiasm and confidence, separates from all the others
Please - Randy didn't do anything that EVH hadn't already done. People love Randy because he is dead mostly. EVH was first and will always be the innovator. Randy was copping his style and licks back in the day and even admitted it in interviews.....
@legend71 Randy could read music from the start and understood theory. Also I don't believe Eddie could ever double and triple his solos in the studio as all his solos were spontaneous and not composed like Randy. I'm not saying Eddie wasn't great, but if I were forming a band, there's no question who I would choose out of the two, in fact its a ridiculous question.....
30 years later and Eddie STILL hasn't done anything that even comes close to what Randy did on Blizzard, Diary and Tribute. Eddies incredible but Randy was a God.....Enough with the finger tapping already, that's old hat and not necessary in EVERY solo.....
@fraroc Yes, they are both considered Gods, but Randy forgot more than Eddie will ever know. In the case of Randy, there is a huge space between #1 (Randy) and #2 (?) as Randy was and still is light years ahead of anybody, past, present and probably the future.....
@TheGibson5150 A quote I read from Randy in a Hit Parader from years ago, Randy said, "I dont know why people love me so much, Im just playing a bunch of Eddie Van Halen licks in different modes"
Does anyone have a definitive answer as to the status of the doc? Is it going to be released or was it shit canned? I know there was alot of internet drama surrounding it since it started, would just be a slap in the face for it to never see the light of day....

Peter PLS release the Movie -DOC ..
Peace and Blessings to All .....Last Train leaving the station All Aboard .....
I'm a little suspicious about this documentary: I mean, why hasn't it been released? It's also interesting that two really big insiders, Kevin Dubrow and Bob Daisley, didn't want anything to do with the filmmaker. These guys were there, with Randy, through some very important times in his professional career. One of the big concert regrets I have is missing the Diary of a Madman tour in 82, but we have to remember, that nothing will bring him back, especially not a film with a questionable rep
Do we need another documentary about the 80's that constantly brings up the partying? In a film about Randy? I love Randy but this looks like garbage.
@supexavi0424 its not exactly a song. if you type in ozzy osbourne speak of the devil concert and click the one thats 9-10 mins long its at the very begining before over the mountain. more of an opening riff u know.
Randy Rhoads had the greatest gift a person could have. Not only was he an amazing guitarist, he made everyone around him better. You can either do that or you cant. There is no way to learn it.
wow, I had no idea how tough the fans were on Brad Gillis and Carlos Cavazo. Print magazines were all we had to read at the time. Both very talented guitar players in their own right that had the misfortunes of replacing an icon.
@PDQ1972 I agree! Too bad the fans "took their frustrations out on Gillis and Cavazo," INSTEAD OF THE MUSIC. However, when I was watching Brad Gillis playing with Ozzy in 1982, on a MTV Halloween Special, I was FLOORED or LEVELED by Brad's playing! I "salute" Brad for "stepping up" as Ozzy moved forward in the wake of Randy's passing :) !
@PDQ1972 Yeah they were. I remember back then Ozzy did an MTV concert and they aired nothing but the Black Sabbath tunes. I felt ripped off. I sseen how good Gillis was and would have really liked to have heard him do the Ozzy tunes, cuz I could tell he could pull them off. I found footage on youtube of Gillis doing Over the mountain and a number of other Ozzy tunes and Gillis stayed true to the original solos and only added a little of his own flare to them. Sounded awesome.
@believer06 personally, I can't stand Brad Gillis' solo on Over the Mountain. That cricket sound he gets from flicking the floating Floyd sounds horrible to me and drove me nuts. I loved his playing in Night Ranger, but it just didnt work for me in Ozzy. I liked Jake's playing a lot better. Check out the cover band "Rhoads To Ozz" for a great Over the Mountain solo.
@kidsTeachGuitar2kids That's odd. Sounded like he kept pretty true to Randy's solo in the video "Ozzy live 1982 (1/14) - Over The Mountain". Ill check out the one you posted. I was particularly impressed with Gillis cuz he didnt have much time to get the material down and did what I thought to be a fantastic job.
@believer06 Excellent point. Gillis did do well given the minimal time for preparation. He also had extremely limited time to learn all of the Sabbath tunes for the live release "Speak of the Devil". Again, Im a fan of Brad's playing in Night Ranger!
I don't know what is holding Dakota Films from releasing this. But I wish they would just do it and let the fans have something more to embrace. RIP RR, you will always be the greatest
Brad Gillis has and had always got my respect, he's a man who's earned his spot via his chops. Randy was taking inspiration from Eddie Van Halen, it's obvious since EVH was doing what he did in the mid or early 1970s
@JmanChronicles Seriously, I don't believe that. I have read some OLD Guitar Player interviews, he would respect any serious musician, from any walk of life. Just ask Deloris Rhoads
@hmmm5000 - if you read Rudy Sarzo's book "Off the Rails" he mentions near the very end of Randy with Ozzy, he was not happy with the band and wanted to leave to pursue other ventures. Get a degree in classical guitar which everybody knows. The whole idea of the Osbournes and record label making Randy do an upcoming recorded show of all Black Sabbath numbers to go up against the Sabbath Live album LIVE EVIL pretty much helped influence him to want to quit. Randy hated playing Sabbath songs.
@MrYuk2112 Guitar Player magazine put out a Heavy Metal Masters book, I read the compiled articles that also covered Randy back in the early 1980s. He'd wanted to explore more guitar based classical, per se, something like perhaps, Fusion, in the way Marty Friedman left Megadeth to do
The websites Ultimaterhoads and Randy Rhoads tk have had much discussion about this, but apparently he was very unhappy the way things were going and also had a big row with Ozzy about the band having to record an album of Sabbath tunes!
I love Randy's playing, but I think everything he did up until his death is all the public would have heard from him as far as rock n roll is concerned. From what I understand, he wanted out of Ozzy really bad and wanted to go to study classical guitar at UCLA. He may have brought out the odd rock genre thing every now and then, but he was more interested in classical guitar.
I sometimes daydream and wonder what we would have all gotten to hear with 30 more years of Randy Rhoads. What we heard on the two Ozzy recordings was such a small slice of what could have been. I get angry every time I think of it. We love you Randy...........
In my opinion, Randy and Eddie were both equal in their own way. Eddie was more flashy, innovative, and bluesy, but Randy could write more epic songs like Diary of a Madman. They are my two favorite guitarists ever. So many people compare them because it's pretty obvious that they were the best of that era.
This film looks great. I hope it eventually gets released.
Is this ever going to be released? Finished? What's the deal? Randy deserves this, or something else fully dedicated to what an influential and unique musician he was.
I agree! I mean, there's hardly ANYTHING on him, although he is one of the mose influential musician ever! His legacy is being crapped on by all of the failed documentaries and biographies that were in the works. This man deserves to be remembered by every self-respecting musician, but it seems like it's never going to happen.
@HomicidalHerpes Buy the Off the Rails novel by Rudy Sarzo. Its a proper tribute for Randy Rhoads, and its a very good book and you get to learn about not only Randy but also about Rudy and the rest of the band. Great book!
@fraroc He is just gonna tell the truth about what happened. More importantly, the making of the first two.
He has a treasure trove of tapes that he cannot release due to the Osbourne's. It is a shame. If the Osbourne's really cared about Randy like they say they do they would let Bob release them. The problem is that they might not get royalties, how great would that be? haha. Let's see how they like getting screwed.
@JonHawaii2003 I heard that he has footage too, and yet again, Miss Moneybags ($haron) won't let him release them.
There was an EP of the Osbournes where Kelly was complaining about her not getting credit with Jack's new job at Epic. Now she knows how Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake felt when her mother screwed them over!
@JonHawaii2003 It's not as much as I dislike Ozzy is that I fucking hate his wife. Watching the Osbournes on MTV, I always thought Sharon was the coolest mom ever, Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake exposed that She is nothing more than a selfish, rude, unprofessional, condesending bitch .
@fraroc If Ozzy had only grown a spine over the years. He is constantly apologizing and making excuses for her. She has ruined many friendships for him.
@JonHawaii2003 I know, he said in his book that he initially liked Bob Daisley and didn't want the friendship to end and he claims that he ruined it by suing him every day of the week.
All Bob and Lee wanted was the money that was rightfully theirs, and Sharon called that "abusive behaviour" GIVE ME A FUCKIN BREAK.
Sharon ripped off many people, her jewish papa was a war monging mafia type who had people hung from roofs like the pilot many suspected Don Arden framed to fly RR into a wall., taking randy out was very much suspected becuase of ongoing disputes.
Daisley apparently wrote the whole album including pushing RRs arse to get on the go, your hear say lip service here is a joke, like a fashion victem
Is this supposed to be a newer documentary or is this the Margolis film that was supposed to be released years ago?? So far from what I've seen, this is f'n KILLER!
hey guys...to all the randy rhoads lovers...there is a fan page in the name of randy rhoads on facebook maintained by two great guys and go become a fan and keep urself updated on the latest news on the documentary release..well its a great page to be a member of coz it has all the vintage randy pics and discussions etc..and also there is a page run by a great lady called tami forward who was a close friend of randy rhoads.the name of the page is'rhoadies".both are great pages for randy fans..
@resqfireman well no sir..i m not one of those great guys...i am just a person who considers randy rhoads as a true inspiration to all and who was unbelievably talented n someone who considers him to be a hero..a humble fan who wants to keep randy's memory alive...so ya, m not one of those great guys...have a great day
@SoalHarvester03 Thats Just the Audio from Dee Outtakes on Tribute heres the actual Video....Sorry the Audio is So Bad but this is like a 10th generation Bootleg...Go to my Videos its Called Randy Rhoads Headphones,or just type in randy rhoads headphones in youtube & you'll see it w/Original audio
@SoalHarvester03 yeah i was lookin at that two, they definantly overdubbed it. first of all in the studio outtakes you can hear him set down his guitar and it resonates like a nylon string. and in that footage obviously he had his les paul.
I am really looking forward to watching this documentary. I absolutely love Randy Rhoads. I love to hear him play and I'm really looking forward to hearing what his friends and family have to say in this presentation.
It just pisses me off that all people do is visit this video to bash EVH and thats it.

@frankdrebin

Great book!

@fraroc Bob Daisley is coming out with a book that will chronicle the career of Ozzy after Sabbath and the recording of the first two albums.
JonHawaii2003 6 months ago
@JonHawaii2003 I'm gonna get that one too, I can't wait to see how much Bob is going absolutley BASH the O$bournes.
fraroc 6 months ago
@fraroc He is just gonna tell the truth about what happened. More importantly, the making of the first two.
He has a treasure trove of tapes that he cannot release due to the Osbourne's. It is a shame. If the Osbourne's really cared about Randy like they say they do they would let Bob release them. The problem is that they might not get royalties, how great would that be? haha. Let's see how they like getting screwed.
JonHawaii2003 6 months ago
@JonHawaii2003 I heard that he has footage too, and yet again, Miss Moneybags ($haron) won't let him release them.
There was an EP of the Osbournes where Kelly was complaining about her not getting credit with Jack's new job at Epic. Now she knows how Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake felt when her mother screwed them over!
fraroc 6 months ago
@fraroc The Osbourne's will get called out eventually. And I will love every minute of it. He who laughs last..........
JonHawaii2003 6 months ago
@JonHawaii2003 It's not as much as I dislike Ozzy is that I fucking hate his wife. Watching the Osbournes on MTV, I always thought Sharon was the coolest mom ever, Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake exposed that She is nothing more than a selfish, rude, unprofessional, condesending bitch .
fraroc 6 months ago
@fraroc If Ozzy had only grown a spine over the years. He is constantly apologizing and making excuses for her. She has ruined many friendships for him.
JonHawaii2003 6 months ago
@JonHawaii2003 I know, he said in his book that he initially liked Bob Daisley and didn't want the friendship to end and he claims that he ruined it by suing him every day of the week.
All Bob and Lee wanted was the money that was rightfully theirs, and Sharon called that "abusive behaviour" GIVE ME A FUCKIN BREAK.
fraroc 6 months ago
@fraroc you heard and seen this ?
Sharon ripped off many people, her jewish papa was a war monging mafia type who had people hung from roofs like the pilot many suspected Don Arden framed to fly RR into a wall., taking randy out was very much suspected becuase of ongoing disputes.
Daisley apparently wrote the whole album including pushing RRs arse to get on the go, your hear say lip service here is a joke, like a fashion victem

@SoalHarvester03 yeah i was lookin at that two, they definantly overdubbed it. first of all in the studio outtakes you can hear him set down his guitar and it resonates like a nylon string. and in that footage obviously he had his les paul.
