love the cartoons, love the toys and i thought that no one ever wonder what would happen if the pilot who let the cat in the cockpit would get blown up cause he is the only one with the deep space suit you know.
The word Starcom is etched into my mind indelibly, the logo too, i definately had a toy of the spaceship being flown here, and yet i cant remember if i actually watched the show! Does anyone know if this was shown in the UK in the late 80s, early 90s?
I remember the downfall of proper cartoons like starcom thunderats transformers, jason and the wheeled warriors was due to media pressure and governments saying the increases in violent behaviour and crime was related to these cartoons. Well 20 years later and an absense of good cartoons like this for 10 year. the world is more dangerous today then it ever has been.
@TinkToll tink, if naything, these cartoons kept violent people off the streets. But beyond that, when you look at all these cartoons and you look at the color, the sound, the complex animation, you cant help sitting in awe at them.
If it was written in America but animated in Japan, does this count as anime or a cartoon? I notice one thing is that inspite of it being made in Japan, it has not a hint of anime/manga style graphics or character design. What's up with that?
I got this when I was young, my Dad picked it up at a car-boot sale. I watched it constantly for months, savouring it. I watched it again today, thing was almost broken, took a while to rewind too but it was worth it. Things like this shall be treasured forever. POWER DEPLOY!!!
Starcom was not only from the 80's, but was also animated by a Japanese animation studio, like most American cartoons from the 80's, explains the great animation quality, this offcourse ended during the 90's and the animation in American tv cartoons became terrible.
That was a quite good cartoon. My one complain though, I think they didn't worked out the spaceships design that much. I know the show was created to support the toys, but still. They could have done better than delta wings while there is no point having wings in space.
these were the coolest toys ever and pretty nifty too with the use of magnets and "animated" transformations. My cousin had alot of these as I was born in '85 and too young to remember this. He had a truck that could deploy a tank, a white base with a magnet powered elevator, some 2-setter car, and a jet. Ah memories...
OMG, if this is what I think it is I had almost forgotten it.
Maybe im wrong but isnt this the show with the toys that you could push a button and it...unlocked or something a part of it? SO that part changed to a new position.
I had 2 of them, a apc type thing, and a space craft of some kind. Wasnt there a club you could send into and join also?
I seem to be the only person out of all my mates who remembers this. Thankyou, this show was the nuts, shame it tanked. A live action of this would make me jizz in my pants, and I agree with the toys being awesome, it is true they don't make toys like this anymore!
jesus christ dude. can you u imagine how long i was thinking of the name of this fantastic cartoon but i totally forgot about it.
today i found it back and i actually DID jizz in my pants.you´re right: no toys and cartoons like this anymore!!!im going to get all episodes right away..
Very late 80's. The show tanked (too much like G.I. Joe, I guess) but the toys were awesome- I had the Shadowbat, the Starmax bomber and the Starwolf fighter. They don't make cartoons (or toys for that matter) like this anymore- too bad.
LOL I remember back in the 80's when I was a kid, the Shadowbats had magnets on them, and they would stick to the cars. I used to get in so much trouble. I remember one day my dad yelled at me cuz one morning he got in the car to go to work and there was a Shadowbat stuck to the driver's side door, right in the middle.
Well, my dad was really protective about the car. He always said that there were scratches on the paint cuz of it. Mom was more like, "Well, kids will be kids." lol
@linkrazr haha i know! there's one series in particular i've been trying to find for years. there was this space ship, that shot about a billion lasers 360 degrees, with a misfit crew of aliens...my search is in vain because they could be *anything* from the 90s...
@linkrazr every 80s show involved imagination, every 90s show - just as you said - every 00's show involved manga looking characters, stupid cutesy furry animals, silly concepts and ridiculous storytelling...
let's hope the 2010's bring something more akin to the 80s, eh? Gummi Bears, He-Man, Blackstar, Robotech, Transformers, Inspector Gadget, MASK, etc, etc... hell, just bring Filmation back - that'll save our childrens' futures.
in the 80'severything was big. Big hair, big cars, bg heavy metal music, and big cartoos. Star Wars started the prduct tie in and merchandising so after that every cartoon that came out had to b an eye catcher andreally grab kids. Look at Bionic six
Finally i found it!!! I was trying to remember the name of these series. It was the coolest animated series 1990 or 1991 here in Bulgaria. My father even made me a model of the little star ships out of plexiglass.
The only thing i could clearly remember was the trooper that slid down the ramp. Other than that i could remember that it did not have a "girly" or "kiddy" characters/plot. It gave a feeling of seriousness.
Well thank you very much for giving me back some of my memories :D
These old American shows always had the best Japanese-produced intros, full of anime OP cliches (MASK, Thundercats, Spiral Zone, and GI Joe come to mind). Then when it came to actual show, the animation sucked.
It wasn't easy to track down this franchise, but finally :). I used to watch this 20 years ago, but totally forgot the name since. Good times, good times.
The pilot (think it was Dash), is the cats owner. The cat probablys wanted to go with him. It's a known fact that sometimes pets ride with their owners in combat, read about one German Shepard who flew with his master in world war 2, the plane was shot down over water, and the dog helped drag several injured people to safety. The dog was lucky also, they got picked up by the germans, but the next day the Navy caught up and rescued the men. Dog was called Antis, and won a medal for his service.
Great great Cartoon and intro... great story , characters - and not at least the vehicles. love the toys too - just magnets - no batteries - and lots lots of fun in those days. Yet hard to find in the Netherlands.
well they always spend alot of money on the intro of the cartoon, cus its the eye catcher of the show. The animation of the rest of the cartoon is just standard. Other good examples are thundercats and jace and the wheeled warriors, those intro's were awesome.
Still this is a great schow and it was one of my favourites when i was a kid.
HEY! I remember this one. It used to come on every Sunday morning in my neck of the woods! Love the intro, and I will be searching for the toys on eBay!
I didn't get to watch the cartoon, but i got the toys! frickin' sweet! my parents actually wanted me to have 'em coz the concept for the toys were interesting back then. maybe even today. especially the magnet boots the figures wear.
That was very good cartoon. I remember that in my country - Poland, was one of the first cartoons that was fully translated (dubbed), with our famous actors.
It's bring back memories when I was a child, and I was waiting long time to see one of the next chapters.
Neat show and very good animation for something that was American produced but sadly, very short lived. The toys were pretty neat as they had earth magnets in them!
These were my best toys never watched the show, but i used to dig them toys and stick em to my frige. Had the base too it was white and had airlocks. Being a kid is easy
Awesome! The ship designs were cool, a bit close to "actual" space flight with manuevering thrusters and of course magnalocks! Articulate space suits as well. Welcomed anime style with no mech/giant robots here!
Man, the 80's... The era of the animated toy comercials. Don't get me wrong, as cartoons from the era go, this was one of the really good ones with well thought out plots and good animation, but like MASK, He-man and Transformers, this was created, from the outset to sell toys... And don't get me started on Dino Riders...
Indeed the shows were created to sell toys. But I dont think that is a negative feature in and of itself. MASK, He-Man, Transformers, She-Ra,and G.I. Joe spring to mind as being really cool shows. My favourites, when I was young. Nothing in the 90's ever had me going the same way, aside from the Turtles show. And dont even get me started about the toons of today.
Well, StarCom was surprisingly sophisticated for its time with a lot of genuine sci-fi and a surprisingly ammount of sci-fact as well. It was set entirely within our solar system, ships used inertia to manouver and there were no magical hyperdrives or sheilds. This was one of the better Sci-Fi cartoons of the 80's
Good old animations comes from the west, pls dun think that japanese drew all the good stuff and west drew all crap. Starcom kik ass, so as GI Joe and visionaries. And now is Avatar, and they dun come from japan at all.
love the cartoons, love the toys and i thought that no one ever wonder what would happen if the pilot who let the cat in the cockpit would get blown up cause he is the only one with the deep space suit you know.

One of the best sci-fi animation of the 80's. I still have some of the toys kept in their boxes... Too bad the show was very short.

Can't remember much about the show but I did have some of the toys.
Guess I'm a victim 80 toy advertising*.
Pitty cause this show looks kind of cool.
*Although they could have been my elder brother toys - That my excuse anyway.

That was very good cartoon. I remember that in my country - Poland, was one of the first cartoons that was fully translated (dubbed), with our famous actors.
It's bring back memories when I was a child, and I was waiting long time to see one of the next chapters.

I forgot about this cartoon, I guess because it was short lived.. but it was a good cartoon.

Neat show and very good animation for something that was American produced but sadly, very short lived. The toys were pretty neat as they had earth magnets in them!

Old school. For some reason I always thought it was a dog that ran into the cockpit.
dtpark1213 4 years ago

And don't get me started on Dino Riders...
weldonwin 4 years ago

Your're actually pretty much telling the truth.
