OMG n00bz would it kill you to buy domestic? have a little pride in the engineering north america has to offer. this car sounds like my 18 horse craftsman lawntractor when i blew the muffler. wait til you guys get a foot of snow and then try to drive your precious little car. like eff, my 86 chev sounds like jesus compared the fartz this thing is spittin out.

Why do people put total rubbish on here when they don't know what they are talking about? The boxer motor was invented in 1896 by Karl Benz - volkswaven beetle motors were known as boxer motors since the '30's and in 1923 BMW was using 2 cylinder boxer motors in its motorcycles.
No knocks against Subaru at all...but to call it a hype word for an asian motor is just...dumb.
oh and they are "boxer because the pistons fight each other while running. this gives better torque and balance. plus an awsome sound with unequal headers!)

The flat 4 in a Suburu originally came from Alfa Romeo, the boxer engine design is much older
