my cars steering wheel shakes n the guy i bought it from said that it was probably the rotors cuz he didnt fix them when he changed the brakes and i looked stuff in the internet n i found out it was this then i ask a mechanic n he said it wasnt this that it was the suspencion i was like wow really lol freaking out a lil cuz he is a "mechanic" n then i checked how the rotors is n its messed up 1 more than the other so i hope its just that xD
I have a front wheel drive Buick and the rotor I KNOW is warped, but $ I do not have....
Every time I apply the brakes at low speeds, the brakes pulsate like you mentioned. Then, at higher speeds, the car shakes VIOLENTLY(as if I am driving on a pot-holed road). Thanks for the help! All I need to do now is take your videos, apply them, and save lots of $
Nate, you are RIGHT ON. When I apply the brakes at 60 mph to stop at a light, the WHOLE CAR SHAKES! I know this is not good for the car at all, not to mention my brake pads now need replaced as well. Thanks Nate!
So my grandpa taught me that when replacing brakes you take a piece of sand paper and rub off a bit of surface from the brake pad(the part that touches the rotor) I don't see that on any video...help?
@vwbusssesareforever Jack up your dakota in the center - front. Put car in neutral with rear parking brake on - if front wheel drive. If not front wheel drive - then neutral position is not necessary. Grab each wheel and spin it. If it spins freely WITHOUT a "rubbing/grinding" noise in regular intervals - then your rotor is not warped. Do the test to each wheel. whichever wheel is making the noise - that is the one with the warped rotor. Could be none - one or both wheels with warped rotors.
I just sold my car that had been parked for a while and had that kind of rust. I thought It would go away with some regular driving, but I guess the new owner is going to have to buy some rotors.
@RobertBorden121 Not all the time. My wife's car sits for a week or two between driving. All 4 rotors get a layer of surface rust--It's not a sign of impending doom. In her case? We drive the car for a short while and (she has mag wheels) look at the rotors. The pads and braking action clean off the surface coating of rust quick. (all 4 rotors back to normal) Now if it sits for longer then a month outside? Then you want to inspect for "pit marks". That WILL cause major headaches.
@Tedybear315 Yes, a week or even two - no big deal. My car ended up sitting for at least 3 months at some times.Definitely a different situation. I could see some of the flaky quality to the rotor surface - almost like there was bubbling underneath.
@RobertBorden121 Perhaps someone should come up with a coating or some such item that would retard or prevent this from happening for cars/trucks that are in somewhat "long term" storage. (for lack of a better way to put it) They do make engine chemicals and fuel chemicals to stabilize things. Why not something that can be applied to rotors and drums that any user could spray on--and a matching chemical to easily remove it before driving? Sounds like a job for a future marketable product!
my dad's car shakes under braking just like he described. I wasn't sure if it was the rotors...well now I know. Also I noticed the shaking isn't as bad as it was before we replaced the wornout tires.
the system we are looking at is a floating caliper, a worped rotor around .005 is taken up by the cal. pins. its rotor deviation ,the inner and outer serfuces are not pararel.
God, these Expert Village vids are excellent EXCEPT that it's impossible to find the sequential vids cuz the titles are too long to read, and not numbered!!! UUUUGGGGHHH!!!!! FRUSTRATING AS **FUCK**!!!

I like how he says a machined rotor needs to be replaced.

How do you know if its more than 1 rotor in the front that makes it shake?? Because my Dakota does that

The rotor is iron, not steel.
