omg is Soma that addictive??? I have an entire bottle here that was given to me for back pain a long time ago, I think I took maybe one. You mean I can sell this stuff for aot of money? lol
Carisoprodol, or "Soma," is listed as a skeletal muscle relaxant. Actually, exact mechanism of action is unknown. "Centrally acting" is often listed before "skeletal muscle relaxant," so it probably just works in the brain to sedate, which makes the muscles relax (so does booze, but it's not a "centrally acting muscle relaxant!). Carisoprodol is highly abusable, and I've read at least one article by a drug abuse expert recommending that it be much more closely controlled than it currently is.
@RedneckYachtClubber Piggy backing what Kairuka said, it is "mind altering" in that when treating chronically anxious patients, Xanax for the most part is very helpful in lowering blood pressure. Valium can also be used for anxiety and sleep aid. Example, I went to the ER a week ago, and my BP was 196/101 so the main focus was getting control of the blood pressure and pretty sure I got stuck with 4-5 different shots
IF the person run's out of their medication and they are taking something like Xanax then the withdrawals can kill them . They can have a seizure so that's a touchy subject.
@JonKinchIsLegit If they are taking more than they are supposed to, that can kill them too, can't it? Also, the solution for keeping them from having seizures is not to enable them, maybe the solution is to...I dunno...have them detox under a doctor's care...?
@FullmetalPharmacistQ Often in the night they will take it so they can sleep or if the initial dose is not productive enough. People get tolerant to medications nobody understands this you can't take 5mg of oxycodone for 2 years expecting it to be as useful as the first month you took it . And since the doctors rarely increase dose the patient will themselves to deal will pain .
@OliverTheIncredible Not true. Withdrawal from benzos is right up there with ETOH withdrawal - particularly when it's abrupt. Seizure threshold is severely impacted.
@numbcrystal I've never seen anyone die from those withdrawals but it's very possible; definitely more prone to seizures if abruptly stopped but never seen a death.. that's all.
@JonKinchIsLegit I agree, but she shld go to the ER in that case. I did have a horrible situation but wasnt my fault the HORRIBLE practice I was dealing w/then, failed to write a new script and I went every 8 weeks, my dr. got "married" and just up and left-they ddn't hv another appt sched for me, no script, and i went days w/no klonopin,. I didn't hv seizure thnk God, but I went through hell-sick and shaking uncontrollably. They are no longer in business. I wonder why!!
