  • Nice demo; gives a good idea how much energy can be pedalled.

  • could this system be powerful enough to keep the refrigerator running? im talking about a standard size one and if so how much is this system if it's for sale or is it a DIY?

  • Avrage fridge needs MORE than a laptop. 50 watts or more. So you would need to pedal, very vigorously, for 24 hours a day.

  • get exercise AND play CSS at the same time? Genius...

  • Looks like a true winner but the real question is can it produce enough power to run a small space heater ?? if so I will take 4

  • If you count an electric blanket as a "small spaceheater" - yes, it can run it :-)

  • The only additional item I would have liked to have seen on this video is proof that either a) the battery has been removed and the laptop is running just off the power adapter, or b) that the laptop shows a charge indicator instead of running on just battery power.

Not saying it didn't work, as I'm sure it did judging from the load on the "watts up" meter, but not a complete test. And like SteveNordqu said, the generator and source of caps would be nice to know.,

  • A guy has come out with a treadputer for office workers but it's not hooked to a computer. web link "Coolest Workspace Contest: The Treadputer - Lifehacker"

  • Why use a peddle bike? Goto canadian tire and get a solar pannel. They have a 80 watt pannell for $399.99

  • Twice as expensive. Not powerful enough. Has to track the sun to stay at a steady power output. Works during the day (who watches tv during the day). Does nothing for your health. Has to be placed outside - somewhere - hard to do in an apartment for example. Need other reasons?

  • when i have kids im going to connect the tv to a bike generator. then whenever they want to watch tv they have to get a MADASS WORKOUT. ahaha thatd be great if they were cool with it

  • owned

  • I'm writing that down with my "buy a driver's ed car with the breaks in the passenger side for my kid's first car"

    I love that Idea.

I love ur's too! ^_^ I also plan on doing what my parent's did: buy a vintage gumball machine and fill it with candy. If they want sweets they clean their room and you give them change.

  • where can I buy one?

  • Excellent! Soon, after the environment is almost beyond repair, this idea will be in every office around the world powering more than just computers. If possible, can you make a shortened version of this clip starting after the boot up? Keep up the great work.

  • the trick is the supercapacitor, yes okey thanks...

  • Wow, what huge geekery! And yet...where do 54F 12V caps with keen meters on come from, and what generator was used; and does the device indeed power a webcam to catch the moment Zach and the flywheel come into contention or extra um, computational efficiency.

The closing claim of balanced cycling and keyboarding usage is not demonstrated. And you booted Windows on a slow boxen, you fools! Put an Alienware or XPS (...110W, say) in there and then stay on the pedals!

  • Much of our time at the computer is spent reading or viewing videos, not typing. I think this would work for catching up on news. Also, this system is more than enough for browsing the web. Basic internet use could be satisfied by a low-end subnotebook like the eeepc, which requires less power.
