@crazymoo456 its called being cautious and plus every one makes mistakes and can fall.... i am pretty sure u dont want a broken wrist then can't skate for 6 weeks
Hi :) I was wondering if there is anything to help me get my feet used to being sidwways when tranisitioning? I can skate backwards then go to forwards but im having issues going forwards to back. I find i get a big circle happening then cant go back. What part am i doing wrong at all?
@TheKittyKatNat basically, if you are right handed, u take your left foot to the right side and turn first the left foot and then the right. if your left, you skate, turn your right foot to the left and turn your right leg after. you can do it eather way though...
OMG...this woman makes skating look boring...she sounds like someones mother!!! (I can say that coz I am someone's mother...hope I don't sound that dull when I'm in skate talk mode!!!) According to others-- To turn front to back,,,,it might be easier just to spin clockwise with the left side skate toe up and the right side skate heel up ... It looks less difficult...
sure, if you are going about 35 and you try doing this you are going to completely f up ur ankle. What i do is turn my less dominant foot, my left, backwards and my right foot to the right. creating a "straight line" where back wheels of both feet are facing each other, then i just transfer wheight to my left foot and slightly spin left, causing u to go backwards. or, my favorite way, is when you just jump into backwards. you have to just plan out how long you are in the air and turn in air :)
she should have demonstrated the back to front. i don't care how much talking you do, there's nothing better than actually seeing it. i learned dance steps from a youtube chinese dude who taught it in chinese, but just from watching him, i learned to do it. in fact, that was the best instructional dance video on youtube. amazing, ain't it?
@chrisJongil Sure....basically the proper way to turn forward to back and vice versa [or mohawk as it is the proper name for this step] when going forward, is to pick up one foot and turn it so it is heel to heel with your grounded foot, then step onto the free foot and turn your new free foot to the diriction your body is facing. To turn back to front repeat the movement. If you are confused or would like a better explination let me know and I'll make a video.

Instead of talking about dominant, and non-dominant, you should tell them to turn on the leg which is inside of the turn. People should learn how to do it both ways, always turning on the inside foot first, not encourage dominancy in one side.
standing with your feet in a forward-facing position, you're going to turn either foot around by turning at the hip/thigh, like in ballet, so that your heels are now facing each other. as you do this, rotate your hips and shift your weight onto the moved foot, and finally bring your other foot around to face the new direction. you can practice these steps without your skates if you're a beginner, and you'll get a better idea of what she tried to show you in the vid.
i love you , im trying to skate i have an ijuri in a leg , i have the same rollers that you are wearing im in mexico there is no roller places you have to see the video sunny boogie pimps i love you
I teach how to roller too... you just watch and try what I do ... bus your ass. get up and try it again.. in time, about 5 months , you'll be just like me. .. check it out....
Outdoor wheels are VERY soft, designed for dealing with cracks in the sidewalk, tiny stones, twigs, etc. The harder indoor wheels would vibrate your feet to death outdoors and have you tripping over everything. And they'd probably get torn to hell.
There's a wide variety of wheels for different surfaces and needs. Speed wheels tend to be wider, and get a lot of use in roller derby. Narrows tend to be used for artistic skating.
Harder wheels are faster but slippery, soft wheels are grippy/slow.
um...just for curiosity, how did you manage to get wheels that are alright to take outside? my wheels are made specifically for indoor skating, and there's no rinks around here for me to skate at...so I need outdoor wheels because there's no way for me to get ahold of replacement wheels for my current ones (the store that I got lucky enough to find quad skates in didn't have any replacement wheels...go figure)
The kinds of quads you'd find at a store tend to be low-quality skates. Chicagos or Roller Derby brand skates. For good quads you'd want something by Riedell, Sure Grip or maybe Vanilla.
for the sheer fact of price, quads are better...as for blades vs. quads...I'd prefer blades if I was competing with skateboarders...but quads are waaay better for just about everything else.
that is wron .. thats not how you turn back.. im a figure skating and thats wrong.. you can felt down... that woman does not know nothing about skating
You are correct, I do not know why she is called an Expert skater, because she looks to be very uneasy on skates, and when she is skating backwards, she is leaning forward over the front of her skates, and that is the first thing you learn NOT TO DO!!! she will end up tipping onto her toe stops, and falling.
This is a horrible way to demostrate a transition from forward to backward. This is not even a turn, it's a spin. For those of you who really want to be successful in skating, specifically turning around backwards from forwards, you should search for a video illustrating a move calle the "Mohawk Turn". Then why comment or even watch it? I may not agree with everything she says, but if you want to tell someone that this information is incorrect, you need to give a solution afterwards. All you end up doing is being more of a nuisance for not only others who you could help but the viewers who try to skip such comments like these. Be more mature and thoughtful of others.
