  • @ter50 ginger baker did it before Mitch

    Mitchell

  • NICE...

  • Five minutes ago I thought "This is impossible"

Now, i'm thinking "That's still really hard"

In a year i'll be thinking "This is still pretty difficult"

  • Very very good! And great sound! Which Ludwig model is this? How old is this Ludwig? Looks quite new to me.

  • Mitch Mitchell of Jimi Hendrix Experience played those triplets before Bonham

  • dude this stuff KooL.

  • Thankyou very muchos!

  • I think i'm gonna suscribe to your channel.... ;-)

    Thank you...

    Great play....Very interesting

  • HOMER IS DISAPPOINTED.

  • I think Bonzo leads with either hand, if ya watch enough video. Also confusing is the fact that many videos aren't in sync w the sound. I'm a righty as well & the left handed ones don't feel natural for me. But awesome drums, dude! & thanks for the lesson.

  • what size sticks do you use?

  • @mikee2150

5A Wood Tips. Vater or Vic FIrth

  • The left hand lead sounds like what he plays in his old 69 videos. Did you use a metronome or anything to get up to a fast speed? I'm having trouble with the triplets in dazed.

  • Dude you're awesome!

  • 3:30 Jizz in my pants

  • Yeah, I'm actually an 'Open hand drummer" which means I'm *usually* a left hand lead. As a huge bonham fan, I can confirm that he DOES lead with the right hand... Sounds slightly off when I play this fill the way it feels 'natural' to me.

  • tht was cool I recognize the cross-over from...Dazed And Confused?!?!..right?

  • Kinnell,,

  • Go to my channel to watch part II

  • That was great dude!!!! Very fast!!!!!! Thank you.

  • good

  • Thanks for demonstrating the crossover.....been trying to figure that one out for years...The right hand lead sounds correct !!! THNX

  • Today is the 31st death anniversary of John Bonham. He died on 25 september 1980. Thumb up to honour him. This is not a Spam, just a cheer to Bonzo.

  • Sounds exactly like John Bonham did.

  • Dude your a great drummer!!!

  • homer is giving him the face

  • @leo0025063 There is no need to be so cruel, ken?

  • first off great video but just throwin somethin out there what if u did it with alternating hands instead of cross over but really either way works

  • Very, very well explained and demo'd dude,,

  • @flicky76 Show us slowly how you did the ending of this video. You know--that little drum outro.

  • @flicky76 Why do you do the "cross over.' Can't you get the same effect without crossing over.

  • @jeffreygaudreault Yes but it's how Bonham did it. Mostly for show because it looks neat in front of 150,000 people.

  • Holy shit!

  • i love playing these but can't lead with my right hand for shit. I'm a right handed drummer but leading with my left on these seemed more natural

  • I find that kit sexy.

  • thank you for this video

  • is the crossing of the arms needed for the technique? or is it just flash?

  • I am interested to know: What are your drum-set specifications? and cymbals?

    Thanks in advance!

  • flicky76:

Thanks a lot man! I have learnt so much from you, great explanation regarding bass drum triplets...keep up the good work!

    All The Best...

  • Awesome!

  • Excellent.

  • good job, he's very calm while pounding his drum kit like a mad....

  • Are you in a band? You should be.

  • @337camo Yes, I am, thanks! Got a gig tonight in SF, as a matter of fact. :)

  • @flicky76 fuckin right. making money and rocking the show, cant ask for much more.

  • dude is that a bonham set

  • @zerosk2 Yes, I bought it brand new around 2003. I have since sold it though . . .

  • Awesome video.

  • update about the 3 ply ludwigs someone offerd me em for 150 but it be bop sizes 18 14 12 14 red sparkle like these only probles it was ril mont then drilled for a post mont late 70s post and the cymbal arm was taken out the batter side hoop sparkle inlay os gone and the drums are missing the mufflers in side should i get em or would it bee too much of a project for me and i should just pass

  • I think with the versatility and power of Bonzo he could have led with either hand and it would sound the same. Your right though, he probably favored one over the other…

  • Hey Flicky... What do you like to use on your 26" for a foot pedal?

Do you use a second floor tom or are you short for space?

    Respectfully

  • @AldridgeHalenFreak DW 5000 or DW 9000. I have both. Don't remember which one was in this video.

Yes, I use 2nd floor tom if there is room. :)

  • @flicky76 ;p)

And I thought I was short for space. ;p()

You do the triplets real well!! Thanks for the demonstration. It is very helpful!

  • 19 people cant watch him while homer is staring at them

  • GOING H.A.M!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That kit's so simple, yet such a bold nice looking kit :D

    Great drumming :D

  • 19 of his neigbors disliked this video

  • @Nickdiaublow looks like someone else has moved in

  • El kick drum muy grande

  • your hands are like lightning.

  • thanks for posting very educational!

  • ZAJEBIŚCIE!!! Szacun. Respect for you

  • What kinda Ludwigs are those!!!

  • fuk yeah bro, i think bonham would be proud !!!!

  • LOOK AT THAT KICK!

  • loved the video ! im keen to develop as a drummer . not sure about the U.S but in Britain we have grades and ive done the highest grade (8) and managed to get a distinction but i feel like now the real drumming starts, cant wait to be home from uni in the summer and spend a few months developing technique ! will sure try the paradiddle triplets !

  • Beautiful kit!

  • homero simmson!!!

  • I loved the crossover. Bang on !

  • show off :P

    dude you are EPIC!

  • i wish your kit was mic'd, but im glad i watched, i was doing the dazed and confused fill wrong. thanks for clearing it up!

  • I bet this guy is a Bonham freak. Nice job breaking that triplet down. I think you nailed it.

  • i can Use my drum pedal pretty fast, but is it hard to handle the drum pedal in these triplets or are the toms and snare more difficult?

  • homer does it better! xD

  • You look a little like Earl Bolan from ToolTime

    I love Homer Simpson

    You a fucking awesome

It is a really helpfull video

  • What do rivets do to a cymbal?

  • @Ambrosious128d , rivets create a sizzling sustain of the cymbal. With the right cymbal a very pleasing wash that can be particularly nice for playing parts that call for less activity of the drums.

  • You look like Les Stroud

  • ................time to practice

  • fuckin sick

  • I play it like this 0:58 and i'm not left handed yep strange =P

  • Good man, I got to tune my base drum, snare, and floor tom like yours it sounds just like Bonham's, great job my brother.

  • This dude is a MONSTER ON THE DRUMS!!!

  • Amazing sounding kit!

  • Could you make a video (if you haven't already) explaining the paradiddle triplets better? You really made me want to learn those beats but I can't quite get it down.

  • Lovely!!

    Definitely gonna try this!

  • What size are the drums? That video was very helpful, by the way. Thanks.

  • I come back to see this video again every few months or so & I'm not even a drummer. Love that beautiful, red, classic drum kit & it sounds bad-ass... especially when one can play like that

  • damnnn thats a big bass drum!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • flicky76 will you point me to some of your videos demonstrating your drumming skills.

I appreciate anyone who takes time to learn and perform any complex and useful task. Or, is music only for Tiger moms?

  • Great powerhouse triplets

  • Great powerhouse triplets, I can do them but have never attempted the crossovers, look dangerous!

  • ur a master awesome

  • awesome man!!!!

  • why are there little things hanging off of the cymbal? I always wondered what that does.

  • @johnthebigtree ~ They're rivets which give a sizzle effect.

  • @streetsheet1 i'm Canadian too man. people like you give us a bad name. just.. just stop you twit

    kickass drumming btw

  • I wish I'd seen this 20 years ago! Been playing it wrong and been frustrated all this time. =D

  • Flicky76! Love Ur explanations & demonstrations. A pro's pro..Awesome.

  • thanks for the tip. flicky76 that has helped me alot

  • 1:52 epic face. now after that amazing demonstration u must smash your kit. :D jk VERY NICE kit looks nice.... for a second btw i though homer was the actual person before u sat down and talked...

  • @streetsheet1 Your an Idiot........

  • ! thumbs up if you thought homer was going to drum before he came in.

  • i like it flicky76

  • nice

  • hey guy...man this is helpful. I like what I see in my mirror. Well.. not couting my ugly face. ;p)

Can you show us the whole song on a video? "Dazed N Confused"

That would be cool! Can you do the rest of it like you do this? I bet you can! Really good job! Love your triplet feel! Love your drums ringing too!

    Marc

  • Do you like your Hand hammered Bronz Snare as opposed to the LM402?

I have both and my Bronz is sometimes a litle dry sounding to me. I have the same kit but with Blue Sparkle and an 18" tom.

Thanks for showing me the pattern. I have the pattern but was doing it a tad different. I like it once it gets cranking.

  • all you people who thinks is so amazingggggggg. its not. its one of those things that sounds a lot harder than it is. just practice the enessial R L bass over and over and get it clean and itll sound liek that, but the point is, the fill is nothing without being put in context with a beat.

Check out my drum vids. later!

  • @insanedrummer89

I checked ur vids out. Don't slag other people if you can't even come close. Not cool at all.

  • Honestly man, great, great work! I can tell a fantastic drummer because not only do you know how to play the riffs fast and evenly, you can explain it instead of just imitating someone else. Left hand lead is also very hard and you got it very close to speed with your right hand. Very good job!

  • dude youknow your stuff good job keep it up, hey can you play immigrant song?

  • What do you think of the element drums? Please respond

  • you have inspired me , thank you

  • Thumbs up for 80' inch Bass Drum!

  • 1:49 to 156 is that what john bonham did to the end moby dick royal alert hall? or its a less time? please explain me cuse ive seen videos where people hit the snaredrum only with the right hand after "the cross over" .. but i never saw john bonham doin it with one hand i guess he always did it with two hands like you... explain me pleasee thanks you!

  • great job!!!

  • Shit you do it even faster that Bonham on dazed and confused =0

  • Is not fair, it looks way too easy when you do it :(

  • Taught with AUTHORITY. Nice job.

  • I wanna bang u

  • @streetsheet1 I don't think you know what you're talking about man. Sorry, lol

  • i was doing this shit technique, but you show one thing good, like how to kick left hand on bass tom, thats nice

  • look at that casual face when he's playing like a god....like he doesn't know he kicks ass!

  • @flx0011

Awww, shucks. Well, I have heard it said that if you don't look a little bored, you aren't relaxed, and if you aren't relaxed, you're working too hard, thus, doing it wrong. :)

  • @flicky76 Whatever way you call it, lead with your right cos it sounds awesome and those paradiddles don't sound the same, it sounds really cool. I was waiting for a double on the floor tom (I think) but it didn't come, maybe five minutes into your drum solo? ;-)

  • Speed it up and you get.... Awesomeness

  • Do you use a speed king pedal? or is that a stupid question?

  • im still amazed on how fast u do those.

  • Very educational. Great job explaining Bonzo's style.

  • @streetsheet1 you are such an idiot why would comment on something that you can't even begin to grasp

  • holy shit just holy shit haha thats sick

  • very cool

  • very cool

  • Well done !!

  • Hell yeah!

  • thanks for the video man very good material

  • My yearing is not very trained for drums but with the left lead it sounded alot different than with the Right hand lead.

  • Really inspiring, thanks. I can see that getting this right is going to take me a while! Thanks, flicky.

  • :O

  • gnarly dude

  • 666 likes, holy satan

  • Good on ya' champ! Show these dribblers what can be done with a basic kit before they blow thousands of bucks on shitloads of toms and cymbals they'll barely ever use.

  • Oh you're good around that kit!

  • vey well explained. im gonna try this out

  • No, he does left hand lead. It can be seen in his performance of "Moby Dick" at Royal Albert Hall.

  • After seeing your video its pretty good however Bonham started all his fills including the triplet with his left hand. I saw zep 4 times and did intense photo analysis of the Song remains the Same and in fact he starts all his fills with his left hand

  • thx for posting this

  • @streetsheet1 FFFFffffWHAT???? !!! ( thats F**king what???) yeah ok sure nutjob his middle tom huh ? you mean his Hi tom aka mounted tom aka tenor tom? uh yeah he did and he and he used both floor toms aka baritone tubs aka cocktail drum

  • ....Can you show the sticking for the triplet paradidles at the end.. it was a bit too fast.

I understand the beginning going between the floor and snare but then you bring the bass and the rack tom into play and I got lost.

    thanks

  • I burst laughing when I saw Homer.

  • @streetsheet1 paha, failure... watch videos of him doing triplets

John Bonham never used double bass, explain how you do that with a single bass pedal

  • Nice man! That was some sweet stuff. :) You obviously need to work on your your left hand, but don't we all? XD

  • Hello mate, nicely played, loving the paradiddles idea at the end, I'll be trying that!

You asked for opinions on the crossover though, here's my understanding! It's BOTH right hand lead and left, he switches halfway through:

    RLF RLF LRF RLF

Try it this way. The beauty is it keeps the sound of Floor Rack Bass, Floor Rack Bass, Floor Rack Bass while the hands cross over creating an illusion between eyes and ears. I'm 99% certain this is how the big dog used to do it! Give it a go!

    Great Vid!

  • @drummerkingmike

the first 3 notes are snare, snare, bass and then the next nine are RLF (floor rack bass) LRF (floor rack bass) and RLF (floor rack bass) correct ?

  • @kenshireen Yeah thats it. As I say, more of a visual trick than anything cos the hands don't seem to line up with the sound when you get it to speed.

The sticking for the paradiddle thing at the end is just RLF over and over. Left hand stays on rack tom. Every right hand you start the triplet with moves in paradiddle fashion between Snare and Floor (S F S S F S F F)

  • @streetsheet1 I dont care about your stupid hockey time ya dumb Canuck.. I dont live in McDonalds i actually loathe the place and my kids arent fat.. you can insult me and my country all ya want but you dont know anything about me or my lifestyle other than its not the stereotypical one you called me on.. all i know is that you dont know shit about drum techniques

  • @streetsheet1 you have got to be smoking crack...He used them in the bass drum YES.. with the toms.. with the ride.. with the hi hat.. especially with the hi hat! listen to good times bad times..pst ba boom ba boom pst ba boom.. do your research before insulting someone whos been playing the drums for quite a few yrs..

  • is it just me having a stare out with homer simspon?

  • You are the best drummer I've heard in years! Keep rocking, bro!

  • @streetsheet1 your such a dumb ass do you even have the slightest idea of how to play the drums.Yes john bonham had the fastest single bass foot but are you actually trying to say moby dick was played only with his foot?

  • that is one angry homer!!lol

  • @streetsheet1

Anyone wanna field this one? I mean, seriously, too easy . . .

  • @flicky76 why bother right. nice playing btw

  • @flicky76 "Okay Kill Him"

  • this is an awesome fill once you get it down and can add it in during beats

  • Great info, thanks. Epic facial hair too.

  • GREAT! nuff said!

  • come on, guys. Can't we all just get along? :)

  • Don't listen to these douche bags, you rock Duder, just get rid of Homer.

  • flicky76-That was both educational and quite awesome. Thanks.

  • Thanks Flick...you are very fast, man.

  • hah man that is badass. i wish i played drums -_- i wish i could play drums actually.

  • Im right handed, and find it way easier to play triplets leading with the left...I learnt them like this, the sound is more logical, having a floor tom on your right...Sn-Flrtom-Kik(LRK)..and I always add the hihat chick with the foot on '1', as does Bonham, and lots of other drummers, to keep the pulse and feel...it sounds way better too...

  • Hey boss iwanna see ur some very fast drumming

  • what is the sticking on the paradidle at the end. you mention its between the floor and the snare but where is the bass and the rack.. obviously you're playing both

  • snare needs to tuning a little.

  • @youngdrummer3 wtf. you have to tune drums. i dont play them obviously...i never knew that.

  • @337camo yeah. you losen (or tightened) the screws around the rims of the drums.

  • homeroo jajaj

  • Top stuff very educational, love Bonham

  • hahaha i was laughing my as off the whole video because of the homer simpsonXD

  • thank you for the explanation meen ! needed something like this !

  • Can you explain the footwork? How is your foot on the pedal? Are you using the front part of your foot or the whole thing? thigh work? ankle work?

    thanks
