  • Still looking for one game though.. I think it was a police officer. And he could "skwat" down.. Like he was trying to not pee his pants..

  • Thanks ever so much for sharing this! I still got the console, but it to work with my new TV ..

Kind of thought I would not see this again, in YEARS! :D

  • scene 15, scene 19?... bullshit! you never exactly which level you were on!

  • i think this was the best atari game by far but i was never able to beat it, i found myself going in circles :)

  • AH, the memories! This was my favorite game.

  • i forgot how badly these old atari games sucked.

  • I saw this in South Park!

  • @MasterSpock1701 I which episode??? I wanna see it 2!

  • * IN

  • @Fernandomoraes13 South Park s06 e08 Red Hot Catholic Love

  • I played this on my father's Atari when I was six. I remember the game exactly, but I don't remember getting far xD

I guess it was too tricky for me back then

  • activision made this wow

  • i played this with spider-man and deadpool :P

  • Comment removed

  • i remember borrowing this off some chinese kid back in the 80s the sound effects make me laugH! sounds like a bad jazz player or someone crappin themselves'!

  • I had so much fun with this game :'}

  • This was the original Uncharted.

  • Peeeeooww! Wooo wooo wooo wooo

  • looks like mario stole his game ideas from pitfall

  • LOVEd this game

  • Interesting fact.....Jack Black was the kid on the commercial for Pitfall.

  • My parents brought me an Atari VCS in 1984 from Spain, and that was a BIIIG thing behind the Iron Curtain. (I am from Hungary.) Even the concept of a video game was completely new to us and everybody, let alone this game. (Our teachers, of course, insisted we should not play it as it will make us very violent, etc...) Pitfall! was bundled, and we loved it with my sister. However, despite spending weekends with the joystick, we never figured that the underground tunnels are actually shortcuts.

  • @tomcatmwi Lol :)

  • i cant wait for this to come out

  • I wasn't born until many years after this game was out, but I hope both of the guys in the top comments realize that people 30 years from now will be talking the *exact same* condescending snarky way about today's graphics. "1080p is 'HD'? Hahaha those losers didn't know what they were talking about!"

  • i played this game in ultimate alliance!

  • Thanks for upping this, I've been trying to figure out how to play this game for 25 years

  • I just noticed that that sound that plays at 0:25 is meant to be a Tarzan-like yell.

  • This video is fuckin awesome.

  • ahh i was obsessed with this game!!!!

  • Why didn't they name E.T. game Pitfall?

  • wow people you're sarcasm isnt funny, this video was made in 1982.

  • I was playing this and pit fall and when I died so did the character on this video... It was completely in synch. :D

  • it has so fucking good graphics!!

  • This was the best game made on atari. Granted it's a total joke you can go right or left and have these simple options but recall a lot of games on Atari were just simple squares and unidentifiable pixel shapes.

  • Those bloody crocodiles!!!!!!

  • I used to play this game a lot.

  • This game was the bomb!!!!!! taking me back to when I was small!

  • LOL the nes virsion of this game is a peace of shit

  • I remember this game.

  • Activiction was the future of graphics of that epoca-

  • Comment removed

  • >Pitfall is a GRAPHICALLY STUNNING game

    huehuehue

  • My favorite Atari game.

  • @NonstopRam Classic. Atari is still awesome, as are all vintage/classic retro games. Thank god for emulators/ROMs.

  • i think im gonna go back to gwar or tron arcade

  • @spadehatesscrewtube huh? Tron arcade (great game) I've heard of, but "gwar"?

  • @gjc82071 yeah. the only thing i remember is that the enemy was some galaga type red blob that you had to shoot. matter of fact the whole game was kind of like galaga. time crisis was fun too. and moon ..? landing? moon attack? the one with the buggy that shot forward and upwards. adventure (atari 2600) was my very first personal favourite though. then later, satans hollow, ghosts n' goblins, life force, oscar, etc. you get the idea.

  • @spadehatesscrewtube I wish you hadn't done that, ("red blob" game) It drives me freak'n crazy. Now I'll be going through every Atari 2600 game trying to figure out which 1 it is!, LOL. & BTW "Moon" PATROL. Hey, do you still like classic/retro gaming? You can play all these games online free, with other players. Many emulators have free, built in netplay. I have a few friends scattered across the globe, that I play with, but I am always looking for more. It's really fun! Let me know.

  • @gjc82071 i'm not sure if "gwar" was atari, that may make it a bit harder to find, and i'd love to know more about retro online gaming. it might be awhile before i engage in it fully as i'm in the middle of a move right now, but within a month i could be. remember vanguard? that one was fun too.

  • @gjc82071 which emulator do you play on and how do you set up a network with it? I play my atari 2600 quite a bit, but its always better having some body to have a little competition with, playing yourself for points can get pretty boring, lol

  • Exactly! (having a person to play with). I use PCAE.......hey, let's take this to our inboxes. More room + I can send you links & stuff, which you can't do here in the comments section. BTW, it's fairly simple to use. With most of the emulators that have Kaillera/netplay support, usually you just click netplay, select a room (looks like chatooms), click [Start Game] (1 player hosts) other player clicks [Join], & you play. Do you have Skype? Being able to talk, makes gaming easier/funner.

  • 0:09 when i rub my plates or stroke my guinea pig

  • Graphically stunning HAH he should see Skyrim or Crysis!

  • @edallinxtrm

    derp

  • qlo weno pa toma atajo

  • I had mother fucking PITFALL back in the day for my atari system. for the day a GREAT game.

  • والل عحيبه

  • witch is better? Uncharted 3 or this?

  • بايـخخخــه اللعبه -_-!

  • @yoya413

الله يرجك ههههههههههه ياخي انت تتكلم عن لعبة لها اكثر من 30 سنة وتقول بايخه

  • I remember this from Thug 2 0:25

  • WOW "Pitfall is a graphically stunning game". Surely, even back then it'd be difficult to justify this statement. Amazing.

  • @theelostriots9999 Not really, that is all we had. it WAS cutting edge at that time. Space Invaders and Asteroid in stand up machines that ate quarters was the height of video game tech at one time.

  • Dah na na naaa!

  • How do you know what scene your on?

  • @ArcaneForged counting...

  • "graphically stunning!" hahahahahaha. I never thought pitfall was all that stunning even when it was brand-new.

  • @adric22

It was better than pretty much everything else on the VCS at the time.

  • i'll never gonna understand this game

  • I liked your video very much.

  • great game. was playing it last night.

  • "graphically stunning!"

and the player can run not just fucking right, you guys, but also left! motherfucking left!

  • @rissehx3 stunning for 1982

  • @rissehx3 The best of all... YOU CAN JUMP! Oh wait, you could probably do that before... BUT STILL, JUMPING! :D

  • @rissehx3 THIS GAME IS SO FUCKING ADVANCED I CANT STAND IT

  • @rissehx3 Back then it was you noob

  • @rissehx3 how old are you bro? 15?

  • @DeDona1 nope. but sorry for finding humor when looking back on technology in comparison to what we now consider "graphically stunning" 20 years later, excuse my comment for being so unjustified sir

  • The narrator sounds like he teaches Visual Basic

  • You cannot "beat" this game. It's infinity man. Just like Aquanaut's Holiday for PX1.

  • "... a graphically stunning game that is taking the VCS jungle by storm." hehe :D

  • This South-Park Episode "Red Hot Catholic Love" brought me here ;-)

  • LOL i was like 5 years old

  • A great looking game for its time.

  • You have a great commentary voice, bro. Great video.

  • Pitfall! is one of those games I know I have no chance of beating, yet I always come back to it.

  • iii etaaa mierdaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • iiita miedaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • The best season of video games!

  • Donkey Kong, is it a same system? Oh well.

  • It was my favorite game for Atari. Where's my Atari? It has gone.

  • luvd this A++++

  • I didn't know atari 2600 games were this good... I used to think first "good" games were born with NES

  • @cici254 all older game systems were good if the games were fun, easy to see, and were well-known classics ^_^

  • Im playing this game on my PSP.

  • always wondered why its considered the 1st sidescroller. there is no scrolling in the game just the usual still screen "room to room" enviroments 2600 games are known for. and its not the first side view game either as several existed on the 2600 before pitfall. so i guess pitfall is the first to have "sidescrolling GAMEPLAY" as that much it definately has. part 2 has some actual scrolling in parts but its vertical not horizontal. 2600 didnt use tile sets for grafx like NES did so scrolling is

  • I played this game in Marvel Ultimate Allince :D

  • i love ATARI

  • lol i loved the atari lol this game ruled

  • Wowzser haven't seen this game in years lol

  • I played this game over 2 hours...

    how to beat it?

  • 1982 baby!!

  • @StudioVincent 1:20 is stahlnetz "Dragnet" theme if I'm not mistaken. And the call of harry is actually the famous Tarzan call! =) and collectiong a treasure is the horn signal of a fox hunt on horse back or something hehe :)

  • Good lord, does this moron understand that when you run left, you're actually going backwards? Seriously, even though this may be the first sidescrolling platformer, it's still obvious how the mechanics work to even children. My first platformer I was 4 and I still realized that when you go left, you're seeing the crap you've passed already! He thinks moving a screen to the left advances, but he never considered if that was true, you could just go back and forth between two screens and win.

  • @TheRoomy "Good lord, does this moron understand that when you run left, you're actually going backwards?"

You can win going in either direction, actually.

  • Oh... how many times did I not time my scorpion jump correctly.

  • Crysis copied this game's awesome jungle scenes, plus this one is 10x times harder.

P.S. yeah they have also copied amazing white scorpion concept for their unrealistic flying thingies :D

  • Pitfall Harry is the definition of badass.

He can jump on alligators, carry 4 tons of gold, get hit by a log and brush it off as nothing, and fall 50 feet without breaking his legs.

  • lembro deste jogo a 20 anos atras; era o que tinha pra jogar, enchi o saco da minha mae p comprar um atari, e isto ai.

  • ... or once you're on the head of the first crocodile, just go JUMP-JUMP-JUMP to the right and you're over.

  • the graphics are so life like

  • I thought you played spiderman. Not "Harry"

  • Lo jugué con tres o cuatro años. Ya ni me acuerdo XD Qué viejo soy, qué asco.

  • @shaunJG11 So do you want help? I don't mind. The only thing I hate is when people screw around. Like, say "yea yea, help, I want this & that please". We email back & forth, I get all the info & (safe) sites together, write little tutorials/help on setting up emulators, etc, then don't hear from them again. Waste my time. So, you need emulators (console program) & ROMs (games). ROMs can be downloaded individually or in TOSEC/Goodsets (like a "Box set" of ALL available games). Let me know.

  • @shaunJG11 Ok then. You said you love those old games, so I just thought I would let you know you can still play them. Your brother is right. There is practically an unlimited # of game, emulator & ROM sites for EVERY console. Some have Java/play online, & then there are emulators (which I prefer) which you download along with game ROMs. I am fairly knowledgeable in installing/using most of them. Some are simple, some tricky, etc. If ya need help with anything, feel free to let me know.

  • @shaunJG11 Those are cool games. I liked Yar's Revenge, Haunted House & Demon Attack too. I also like the OLD "Atari" made games (Air Sea Battle, Video Olympics, etc. I remember when we got our 2600 in 1977. Only a few games available. We would check the store weekly for/to buy new games as released. Once 3rd party software makers came out, too many games to keep up. I still love these old games. Have real consoles & emulators. You have any emulators or consoles/still play classic games?

  • @shaunJG11 Honestly. We still have the Atari and it still works like magic. Good as new. We took it in the repair shop recently. LOL The games work great.

  • @coolusa40 Sweet! I have an Atari 2600 too. (but not my original from 1977. I bought another in 2001) Also have a 5200, 7800, & PRE-2600 Atari Ultra Pong & Video Pinball Breakout (no carts, built in games). Have 10 other classic consoles too (Intellivision, Magnavox, etc). I really like emulators too & have literally EVER 1 (for classic/retro gaming) & ALL /games/software for them. I have a cool USB/Atari 2600 joystick adapter for playing Stella emulator, & an X-Arcade Tank Stick for MAME.

  • awesome game

  • I get so nostalgic about these stupid old games, I love em so much. Remember Ultima IV on C64?

  • Dude I remember playing this game on my 13 inch TV in my room while listening to Asia on cassette tape.Afterwards I would go for a ride on my BMX bike.

  • Hello! I am going around posting comments on Youtube in reference to Kaillera Client. With certain emulators enabling it's support, it allows you to play classic/retro games like Atari 2600, Intellivision, Colecovision, NES, etc & even MAME (coin-op arcade games emulator), versus other players, while online. I am attempting to attract interest in the hope of getting together some classic/retro game loves, so we can play each other online. That's my goal, so, let me know if you're interested!

  • "taking the vgs jungle by storm"

    Present tense. Taking.

I love 1980s videos. I bet this was on Betamax.

  • haha this was my favorite game back then

  • Pena que nunca tem fim...

  • I want the narrator to read me a bedtime story

  • @gringolazlo Twas the night before Christmas and I blew up your atari..

  • @gringolazlo Dude me too, he is like the Bob Ross of video games.

  • @gringolazlo i would be asleed by "once upon a time"

  • Wow. We spent to the early hours playing this. Brilliant in it's day! Well, almost as good as Spectrum's Turbo Esprit !

  • Is this series on VHS or DVD? This game is pretty good. I am going to get it for PS2. I have never played a real Atari 2600 or 5200. Just played some skiing game on computer. I forget the name of it.If you like reviews of albums and video games check out my channel.

  • Pretty clever way of circumventing the inability to scroll in Atari games.

  • This looks pretty advanced for a 2600 game!

  • LOL!! I SAW THIS IN SOUTH PARK!

  • @hermiewhat

    me too^^

  • @hermiewhat Where exactly?

  • I play this game still today....it´s timeless.

  • i still have my atari flashback 2...and ac/dc songs

  • NO YOU RUN AND TRIPLE JUMP THE CROCS, ALL AT ONCE.

  • When the guy in the video said "Pitfall is a graphically stunning game", I KNEW I would find a top-rated comment about it here already. =D

  • So, wait, let me see if I'm getting this. This average man has to travel through over 250 different environments and searching 32 treasures whilst dodging man eating

crocodiles and rolling logs and scorpions... all in less than 20 minutes? Jeez, Harry is a badass.

  • I remember seeing this game for $14.95 at Toys R Us in the late 80's.

  • HOLY SHIT HE CAN GO TO THE LEFT!!

  • This is a great game, but why many Atari game boxes had that poor-coloured rainbow trying to indicate move?

  • now how the fuck did an atari 2600 game beat the whole atari 5200 in graphics!?

  • I could never beat this game. The scorpions were too hard to jump over, the crocodiles always ate me and I always ran out of time. I did enjoy playing it though. Pitfall 2 was easier for me. I was able to finally beat it after many hours of playing. You should post a video of you beating Pitfall

  • I would love to find a boxed version of pitfall but it the price would probably be $250. Oh well it's worth it. Great game

  • first game i ever played when i got my atari 2600

  • I just thought...this game would be good for a Game 'N Watch.

  • great memories of this game

  • Gawd, talk about back in the day......It's hilarious to think about it now, especially in light of the games today, but back then we gen x-er's absolutely could not get enough of Atari.

  • Oh so those things were scorpions! How could I have not noticed it before! With such rich graphics and all.

  • I was very excited when I saw the snake the first time

  • You can't win if you run to the right.

  • Wow, you can even go left!

  • What?! The benefit to running left? Does he even know that by running left, you're going backwards?? Wow. That's hilarious.

  • @TheRoomy Stupid comment.

  • man... i played this for HOURS!!!!!

  • Awesome game. I remember spending hour upon hour playing this at my grandparents place.

  • I remember my kindergarten class use to have Pitfall. Only the "good Kids" were allow to play, lol.

  • i still have my homemade map somewhere, i got a perfect 144000 score, it just takes certain tunnels at certain times to make a perfect score.

  • I just picked this game up in my mail today! It's crappy and the graphics are lousy! I wasted my cash! I have been saving up for a Playstation One and this stupid game set me back 50 large ones!

  • @begoneyoubum reading that comment makes me feel like this was posted in the late 90's. Were you being sarcastic?

  • 256 scenes? what the hell is that? i attempted to play the game but the timing is strict and knowing the game is really that long is ridiculous. they should section the game into levels. not just one enormous level, that's too difficult. i'd assume the number of people that completed this game to be the minority of players.

  • Oh snap, that was graphically stunning!

  • who is this guy so i can look him up now days

  • I mapped and had a perfect score on this. I collected all treasures and made it with under a minute to go without getting killed or even hurt!! It was a 2 day total commitment. Great game for it's time. I had no idea there was an actual end to this game until a few years back when I solved it.

  • i still have dis on atari collection system has hundreds of games without no cartriges pitfall is AWSOME

  • Those things are scorpions? I've always thought they are walking skull things

  • HAHA...Me too. 25yrs later I find out their scorpions.

  • Tom Boy
