Oh and the origin of the name 'Courtney Love' for the band (and singer) is greatly debated. Some say that Lois and the future Courtney Love had been roommates in the late 80's in Portland and that they would often joke about 'Courtney Love' being the perfect 'rock star' name. It's unknown if this is true or not, but since both singers did live in Portland at that time, it's possible. Interestingly though, Lois is thanked on the very first Hole single "Retard Girl" in 1990.

Yeah, this is the BAND Courtney Love, not the Hole singer. Courtney Love was comprised of singer/guitarist Lois Maffeo and drummer Pat Maley and were from the Pacific Northwest indie rock scene that also spawned bands like Beat Happening and Sleater-Kinney. They only put out a handful of 7" singles and compilation appearances before splitting up in late 1991. Lois moved onto a solo career for K Records as simply 'Lois' and Pat Maley started Yoyo Recordings, an Olympia-based studio and label.

The song is by Courtney Love - the band from whom the rock star stole her name. It was a band on K records, but you can't find their records anywhere anymore. In fact, it was even hard to find them in the 90s. The lead singer is Lois Maffeo who has some solo stuff out - which sounds a lot like this stuff. And all this band's songs WERE this good! If you like this song - look for Lois Maffeo - who records under the name "Lois" also on K records. Strumpet is a great album.

You guys, you all got it wrong! I first heard this song on a friend's myspace page and researched it a few years ago ('05 I think...) I was trying to download it from windows media but couldn't because it was removed (from myspace also...) So, after some googling, I tracked down the actual band's manager, who told me that the band was called: Courtney Love / was comprised of 2 girls who had since moved on to solo projects / and were not planning a reunion. This is not the girl from Hole!!!
