So he thinks that it is trustworthy when Luke says the gospel is based on eyewitness accounts, because that was how history books were written back then. The problem with this arugment is that we do in fact not even trust these ancient historians unless their claim of eyewitness accounts corroborate with other sources. Furthermore, if the gospel of luke is taken to be based on trustworthy eyewitnesses, then where does this leave the gospels that does not cohere with lukes account?

BTW, watch out for Niel Godfrey. he is purported to have refuted the entirety of Bauckham's book. of course if you read his rebuttal, Godfrey tends to cherry-pick facts and makes them out to be capable of undermining his entire thesis.

BTW, Godfrey also claims that Galilean names may have been different than Palestinian names on the basis that Bauckham doesn't devote time...

...to discussions on Galilean names in Chapter 3, but Bauckham's source, Til Ilan's lexicon, includes galilean names and, as he pointed out to me, there is no reason to suggest that naming practices in Galilee were different than Palestine.
