The only musician I've ever encountered who could equal the songwriting talent of Billy Joel is Al Stewart. Otherwise, his lyrics are as good as it gets. Just fabulous stuff.
I love this show. It's brilliant, and really speaks to Joel's accomplishments as a songwriter. But I really hope he had a coaster under the glass on top of that beautiful piano.
Since there were a few comments about this filming, I figured I'd chime in as I was lucky enough to be there. This was November, 2001 at the Irvine Auditorium on the UPenn campus in Philly. A&E did a good job splicing together a show, but the actual performance went about 4 hours. The kid from the audience who performs in one of the parts lived on my hall freshman year...this was a great time...thanks for posting and letting me reminisce...now I'm off to see the Face w Face tour in Phoenix!
It was definitely a great show although our seats were not fantastic. I saw them both in Philly during the 2002 Face 2 Face tour and was upgraded to front row, dead center...that was truly incredible. But they are amazing performers, and it was a wonderful evening. Hoping for the same from the Boss this Friday.
LOL I heard that during the Soviet Union shows, there was a bit of a fight between Billy's crew and the powers that were in USSR. The lights stayed on, Billy was pissed because with the lights on, the crowd was too intimidated to let go and have fun. When the lights were off, they relaxed, but if a light was shown on a person, they froze. I wonder if a bit of that is running through his head when talking about the lights.
Oh.. how I wish I could be in that concert :(

Joel was once asked which other rock stars are glib and honest enough to do a show like this, and he responded with "Don Henley and Sting."

This is a great video. Is there anyway to download this? I mean other than downloading it off of youtube, which I'm sure would have quality loss.
