We drove from Chatham in Medina County to watch the demolition. We got up while it was still dark, drove all the way there, inched along with the rest of the traffic, stood out in the cold and sprinkles to see nothing happen. I remember the first charge going off then..nothing. I still say they were setting the charges off in the wrong direction. Instead of setting off the farthest first, they set off the nearest and blew up the wire that was going to the next charge.
I to lived nearby @ 3620 west 47th place, off dennison ,the lot is vacant now, lived there from 1967-1976 .the park was a great place to grow up.Sneak in under the fence to the zoo, watch the motorcycle climb the hill behind the diamonds, and yes the sled riding, climbing on the train.mercy time has gone by so fast
For a bridge that was deemed hazardous & everyone was so afraid it was going to collapse, they sure had to try an awful lot of times to get it to go down. I must have left & came back 5x before I said screw it and went home. Then of course as the day went on & they got the whole thing down, I could feel my apartment slightly shaking and it sounded like a roar of thunder outside. They're getting the new one up relatively quickly though, as far as construction in Cleveland is considered that is.
Being a former Cleveland resident, I was sorry to see this go. I visited Cleveland, and the zoo, in Sept 07, and it just wasn't the same without the bridge. Remember when the entrance to the Zoo entrance was off of Fulton? You came down the hill, and the parking lot was near where the vet building is now. There were always abandoned cars and stuff along the hill. There are days I miss Cleveland.
I'm Glad You Posted This I would Have never Got To see it. I Live in St Louis Now and I Grew up In Cleveland all My Life and This Is definately a historical Moment for the cleveland area. I wish I could have been there.
I miss that old bridge, and the weird little winding brick road running under it. Anyone else remember sled riding where the diamond is before it was a diamond? (would have been late 70's I guess.
omg lol, i live right by that bridge too! just up the road from it and i heard it go down that day then the other day i watched the whole thing go down!
Left of the bridge- ghetto

It was a beautiful bridge. I'm sorry it had to go. What style bridge will replace it?

Hello, from Paris, France. I am sorry to see the old bridge go. I was born and raised in Cleveland and loved the zoo. Time marches on.

There's a bridge in Danville, Illinois that looks almost exactly like this one.

Thanks for sharing this video. I was there at 6am and it would of been cool if they had the bridge down on the first try.
