i bike through cambridge all the time i been hit countless times the most recent one i didnt have my cam on me nd the car just pulled out into me causing nearly £150 of damage then just drove away . i love cycling in cambridge but my god you got to have your wits about you the drivers dont even look out for you
either way cyclists are a f*cking nuisance!!!! arrogant ill mannered twats who jump red lights while people are crossing the road, get in the way of traffic, slow traffic down at all times, fucking wankers should start paying some tax and display a tax disk then they might have a right to moan and get millions wasted on them painting fucking cycle lanes everywhere on our countrys roads!! GITS!!!
This bloke has been posting faggoty videos on the net for ages trying to attention seek. He isn't all there. Rides like a twat and then engineers situations to try and make an attention seeking fuss. One wpuld assume he is a no hoper with no girlfriend or wife and perhaps not the required social skills to have many friends.
Sad really. And cyclists can be a pain in the arse, but most are very good. It is a shame that this loner is embarassing all other cyclists with his cry baby videos.
you broke so many rules during that segment. mostly by improperly using lanes (i.e. cutting around traffic). don't come complaining to the youtube crowd about it.
Aside from the fact that a lot of the issues faced in this video could have been avoided by thinking ahead and slowing down, the Highway Code [Item 165] states that "you MUST NOT overtake the nearest vehicle to a pedestrian crossing". I.e. it's illegal if you do, such as at 0:47.
fucking cyclists like you should use the pavements or stay near the kerb dont swerve in and out of traffic.I dont blame the taxi driver if you was in a car you would give way, just because your on a bike you think you shouldnt give way to cars?use the fucking pavement and he didnt " u turn into you" he was no where near hitting you.idiot!
I thought this was cambridge then realised it said so in the description.
I've been there once, and I feel your frustration. Saw a girl almost get hit by a cyclist, stepped out on the road without looking properly, cyclist ended up doing a stoppie and missed her by just inches. Stupid bint just laughed to her mates as if to say "oh silly me".
...onto the shared use path where cars can't go, you mean? Common sense and experience show that pedestrians & cyclists don't have much difficulty sharing space but just look what happens as soon as there are lots of cars: traffic jams, fixations about which bit of the road belongs to who and where you can and can't go!
Share use path? It's a pavement for pedestrians not cyclists which is why the other cyclists are STAYING ON THE ROAD.
Did you notice how you pulled out when approaching the bus without doing your life-saver? Who cares what cars are coming from behind that you cut up eh?
And besides, the taxi driver braked in time and didn't actually go in front of you.
@grahamscott89 Seems you don't know Cambridge well then. Shared use paths everywhere. This video was filmed using a handlebar mounted camera, so perhaps you could explain how you think you know when I turned my head during this sequence?
@mailpauljonescouk Maybe you should focus more on cycling because you can clearly see at 0:19 you are turning your handlebars to track that car with the camera.
Besides, it doesn't really matter does it because I see idiot who is filtering far too quickly @ 0:43 you have no idea if someone is crossing in front of the lorry and the same at 1:01 where it's very likely that people could be coming off the bus and crossing in front. You only slowed due to the car and saving your own ass.
@mailpauljonescouk traffic jams make people behave in a strange way, nearly killing themselves and others to shave a few seconds off their journey. seriously, why?
@mailpauljonescouk Shared use path indeed, i see no markings to say cyclists are allowed, i see no cycle lane (which by law have to be painted on or marked). Stop talking crap pal, your just another cyclist using something you dont contribute to, yet feel you own. And before you comment back, i know Cambridge very well!
There are pavements all around Cambridge which are shared by Cyclists and Pedestrians. A single pavement can have two areas shaded red and black. Red shaded area for cyclists and black shaded area for pedestrians. I think the cyclists are very polite in Cambridge and mostly safe.
Your cycling skills need improving! At one point you cycled across a pedestrian crossing and later on you "cut" the bit soon after you started cycling on the pavement! The car driver did no wrong. You should be more aware of your surroundings and adjust YOUR speed accordingly.
@FragGile Road Tax does NOT exist. The Tax disc on your vehicle does not pay for the roads, it comes out of income taxes. So if a cyclist has a job he or she is paying for the roads already! Sadly you are in a majority that seems to believe this myth.
@mrwasbesonders Admittedly maybe it was a hasty comment but i was wound up by videos of cyclists throwing their weight around threatening to upload videos etc of near misses/accidents etc.
The highcode is not strict enough for push bikes, im sick of seeing people riding on the road only to hope onto the pavement and carry on at a red light!
The cyclist is a dick. However, dicks on bikes are much less dangerous than dicks in cars, of which I think there are about an equal amount. Nearly 2000 deaths & 200,000 injuries a year are caused by motorised transport in the UK, compared to only 2 or 3 fatal collisions every 10 years caused by cyclists.
@zivkovicable Lol, thats because bikes don't go fast enough to hurt eachother lol.... Can you imagine a head on collision with two bikes???? Get a life
@chadalopolous I don't get your point. You agree with me, then you tell me to get a life.I live in a city, & I get around way quicker by bike than in my car. During rush hour even more so. Do you think fatal collisions are a good thing?
@zivkovicable No what I am saying is it is incomparable. You can compare the speed of a cyclist with the speed and weight of a car. I would have no problem with a cyclist on the road if they followed the rules.
@zivkovicable The road isn't for cyclists !! I have no problem the governemt spending money building a cyclist lane, ya thats fine. Maybe all cyclists on the road should get insurance and inspections and be treated just like a car!!!
@chadalopolous No? The road was never for cars either. Horse and carriages ring a bell? You know, because they wouldn't have car horns would they? And what are you going to inspect a bicycle for? 'Spinning wheels and brakes'? Perhaps pedestians should have insurance for crossing the roads? Shoe inspections? The point is cars are not cyclists. When you drive to close you don't just 'clip' a wing-mirror, that's somebodies arm, life.
@FindingMozart This is such a bad arguement. Ok here is the plan, cyclists have to get insurance to make sure the method of transportation they are using on the road is SAFE. You have to follow the rules of the road when riding on it, so no passing on the shoulder when traffic is stopped. You must have turn signals (with lights) so I can see wtf you are doing. You must keep with the flow of traffic as well because I can going super slow is considered dangerous driving.
@chadalopolous Insurance doesn't make anything safe. I'm not going to be happy to ride into you just because I have insurance, and if I do? You're more than welcome to start a civil procedure against me, because for a cyclist to seriously leave damage on a car? They're not riding, or walking away, are they? And, use your eyes, indicators are not golden, not even daily car-drivers know how to properly use them. Most road cyclists can cycle at 20-25mph :] Can you?
99% of cyclists are a menace on the roads, they think they are always in the right but as you have just showed the world you have no regard for rules of the highway code but yet are quick to point the finger at car drivers who have actualy passed a test where as all you have done is bought a bike and set off. why not have reg plates on bikes so that bad cyclists can be reported???
@mpsrocket Just wondering where you got the 99% statistic, off Top Gear probably. Did you know Clarkson's misses is a cyclist? Oh, by the way maybe there should be a mit more onus on cars to take care around more vulnerable road users seen as they are hurtling along in a ton of metal. Ever considered that?
LOL you just showed yourself breaking breaking about a million rules of the road before we even get to the taxi, if you wanna whine at least stick to the rules yourself, or better still pay some road fund.
This video is a clear example of why some dumb ass cyclist get run over, though I'm not denying that irresponsible car drivers also have their own share of blame for accidents too, generally, it comes down to inconsiderate people, Pedestrians, Cylists, Motor cyclist, car drivers, lorry drivers, all are at fault, its not what is being driven, but whos driving it.
Fair enough the van driver should have looked a bit harder and not pulled around so quick. But you’re a bit quick to point out his flaws when you aren’t exactly perfect yourself considering that you break the law yourself at 00:49 when you decide to ride on the pavement rather than just exercising a bit of patience and following the other cyclists undertaking the cars....
Drive fail 0:03 impeding (or intending to) the free movement of traffic (by attempting to pull out and block the way, selfish as fuck, too). I hate drivers like this - hey genius, if you have to force your way onto the road from a side-road, it means there's TOO MANY CARS ON THE ROAD, and you should reflect on this and if you can take another form of transport, or accept the patience required to wait until more sheep-like car drivers have got out the way or let you go. More brain less balls.
90% of cyclists in my area ride like idiots. Like I almost hit an idiot cyclist who ran a red light at the last second right in front of me. They don't obey any of the laws that they're supposed to. They run red lights, run stop signs, don't obey the speed limit when they're going down hill, ride on the sidewalks, ride in the LEFT lane, and many other things. In my area all of the laws that apply to motor vehicles apply to cyclists and they choose to ignore them. It's so incredibly irritating.
Oh look...... the idiot likes to moan about other users of the road yet if you look at 0:51 he clearly starts to ride his bike on the pavement !! As this might make him look bad he cuts and edits the video so not to show it !!! Total Nob !!!!!
if you think you can ride a bike in the middle of the road like that, faster than any other vehicle on that road; you can expect people to be surprised when they knock you down. You're riding there as if you have a no responsibility for your own safety. I am a driver and a cyclist and I stick to the pavement as its safer than letting 2 tonne vehicles pass you at a foot's range.
Ur gonna get hurt and you'll only have yourself to blame.
Nearly had an accident the other day cos of an ignorant cyclist like yourself.
Small pot hole in his path, so he decides to swerve right in front of me. I avoid him but having to swerve myself into on coming traffic to potentially save his life and smash my car. He then has the nerve to shout at me for driving dangerously. I stopped and gave him a piece of my mind but I'm happy I didn't smash his face in, it was the least he deserved
@drummaboy64 A car might have done the same. You have a duty to give other vehicles enough berth. if you had to swerve it's because you lack driving skills, as well as social skills if you think "smashing somebody's face in" is an appropriate response to surprise while driving.
@dinorizzoni So what you're saying is, if I'm driving and I see an obstruction/pot hole in my way I should avoid it by swerving right in front of another car, and that if there's a collision, he's in the wrong because he should've given me enough berth??
@drummaboy64 Hi drummaboy. No, what I meant was in relation to your comment about the cyclist. You should give cyclists a wider berth than you might think necessary when overtaking them because they may swerve. If you hit a large pothole with a bike you may well come off, so cyclists try to avoid them. Regarding the incident above, it looks like everyday riding to me - the taxi was doing a U-turn and spotted the cyclist, braked. No harm done. In my experience most drivers do their best.
@dinorizzoni No need to state the obvious, I do give cyclists more room than necessary because from experience I know they're prone to stupid acts of carelessness. The fact that I did so and this cyclist managed to find himself in front of my car by suddenly swerving so far right into my path and cut me up is what was wrong. I can't understand how you fail to see that, do I have to draw you a picture? Cyclist should've slowed down, waited for a gap between cars and gone round when it was safe.
@dinorizzoni Please tell me you're joking?? What a nonsensical reply... I don't know if you lack common sense or if you're just retarded but it's definitely one of the two. I tell you what would be 'appropriate' for you to do now, get on your bike and ride off a cliff.
@drummaboy64 Highway code: You give a bike the same berth you give a car. Aggression is such an inelegant emotion, but if it's the only outlet you have due to your lack of education, then so be it.
@dinorizzoni Haha don't flatter yourself, you haven't even come close to getting me aggravated. Purely based on the fact that I feel sorry for you; I mean your level of ignorance and stupidity is beyond belief, so you might want to shut up now... you're just embarrassing yourself.
The cyclist in this video seems to be cycling as if he is going to an emergency - making progress at all costs, including riding on the pavement by a crossing, using a right turn only lane improperly, etc.
Being on a bike is quicker in some areas, sure, but it does not give you an automatic right to make progress at all costs. Sometimes bicycles have to sit in traffic too...
Ive been a cyclist for over 10 years - and i have to say this video gives cyclists a very bad name - you criticise car drivers yet you diont seem to know how to handle your own bycyle properly - look at your own riding skills before criticising other road users.
yeah plenty of shit you did wrong, yet can pick on a cab driver? idiot. people like you make all the other cyclists look bad when we do our best to follow the rules.
for all you car driver apologists as snip from car accident . com
"Car Crash Stats: There were nearly 6,420,000 auto accidents in the United States in 2005. The financial cost of these crashes is more than 230 Billion dollars. 2.9 million people were injured and 42,636 people killed"
how many thousands of people are killed or injured by cyclist vs car or van drivers.
I cycle and drive so see the bad stuff from both angles. people usually die because some arshole can't wait a few seconds.
how can you say look at this taxi driver... when you use right hand turn lanes too go ahead, cycle over ghost island, the list goes on...
if you where on a motor bike in odne that, the police would have every right to charge you with driving with in accourdance with the highway code, or even dangerous driving...
shocking... the other thing you could have done as you asks what else could you do, is stop in the line of traffic and wait like every other road user....
The rules of the road apply to Bicyclists as well (check your Handbook) After multiple infractions you complain about the chap that has a near miss with you. Bicyclists are hard to see. Combine that with the vulnerability of a Cyclist and you can understand that those Rules are there to protect you as well. Your blatant disregard for Traffic Laws did not garner my sympathy. Best of luck and keep your Health Insurance up to date.
This is not good riding, I am a cyclist and think most drivers are tossers towards cyclists, but riding on the pavement is not good and setting a bad examples, you should know, once a driver sees a single cyclists doing something bad, it suddenly means ALL cyclists are doing things bad. And if the traffic is stationary, and there is enough room at the side of the road, it is better to go at the side of the ride, rather than in the middle...
1) bicycle driver was aggressive, wasn't driving safely in my opinion. 2) Title this video is misleading "into" assumes there was a collision which there wasn't. "near collision" would be a better choice of words.
and i assume this is a helmet cam (or you cant keep the bike straight in which case stick to walking) and if it is then you never performed one lifesaver backward glance (you would know what this is if you knew how to ride a bike legally sand safely)
@GizmoRyder Overtaking at junctions and zig-zags is only a "technical" breach when the traffic you're passing is stationary/crawling. The law even acknowledges this and says people aren't guilty of an offence if it is technical in nature.
That is true for cyclists and drivers/riders of motor vehicles.
Sorry.
I'd consider the "hatched lines" part legitimate filtering.
@thirteenfingers nonononono. the zig zags are there to alert you that it is not safe to overtake or filter across them....not that its okay if you think the giant tonne of steel is going too slowly. thee hatched lines are meant to keep junctions, crossings and slip roads safe from idiots like you.
@GizmoRyder I'd typed a response about technical breaches but decided to look further.
Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002
Section 28 defines the "no overtaking" rule at zig-zag lines.
It explicitly addresses "motor vehicles" so please disregard everything I've said previously and replace it with "it is completely legal for a cyclist to overtake at zig zag lines"
...for the win.
See my following post for a sound destruction of the hatching "offence" people are weeping about.
Hatched areas are addressed in section 130 of the current highway code (formerly 109)
ONLY when the hatched area is bounded by solid white lines (unlike the broken lines in the video) is it an offence to enter that area.
Entering a hatched area may (not in this case - it was necessary for filtering and safe) contravene an advisory part of HC Section 130 which would be considered in establishing liability in an accident but regardless is NOT an offence.
@GizmoRyder And just because I'm in the mood to do so... I'm going to go against my usual approach and return an insult - mainly because you seem like the kind of jumped up fool who needs it.
I only wish there was some way of using hatched lines and zigzags to keep the comment boxes, threads, the internet in general and the roads safe from idiots like YOU.
The kind of idiots who assume they know the law, when they don't, and abuse others when they disagree.
@thirteenfingers i draw your attention to the 5 comments above this agreeing whole heartedly with me. you're a menace to sensible road users.
i am a motorcyclist and believe me i know the laws about filtering and safe overtaking.
the point is if i ever see a cyclist riding like that then i'll remove him from the saddle regardless of speed or how many hgv's are going to run the twat over.
@GizmoRyder You respond to cited law with *opinions* of other culeless people? Get real!
You're a MOTORcyclist. You may know the law for MOTOR vehicles (though not about hatched areas with broken lines) but demonstrate beyond doubt that your understanding of the law for cyclists is poor.
There's a reason some rules are universal and some limited to motor vehicles. Bicycles, are NOT "a menace" to other road users.
Now stop making internet-hard-man threats and grow up. You just sound silly now.
@thirteenfingers cyclists are legally road users and are bound by ALL LAWS as motor vehicles. please filter past traffic illegally and then ride in the pavement with me on the pavement and that will be the end of your journey. simple.
@GizmoRyder "i know the laws about filtering and safe overtaking"
A clear and testable claim.
I've cited law to show that a cyclist overtaking at zigzags is legal. I've given you Highway Code refs to show that using those hatches to avoid the door zone when filtering is legal (*maybe* advised against AT WORST).
You've responded with "5 other people agree with me" which means nothing.
If you're right - cite.
What are these "laws" you know?
Or have you not got the stones to back up your bull?
"Van driver stops in mid U-Turn leaving plenty room for cyclist to pass" would be an equally appropriate title for this pointless vid. Sure, the van driver should have stopped earlier, but even in the video view you can clearly see that the van is going to make the turn way before the cyclist reacts.
Car-hating whines like this vid achieve nothing but promote prejudice towards cyclists - perhaps that why some of them "feels intimidated back into their cars".
@MrSuperstevie Blocking the road instead of waiting for the cyclist to pass THEN pulling out. Guess he wasn't patient enough. Van drivers I have more time for (even though they often drive like over-hyped wankers, frankly). At least their form of transport is for a purpose more suited to its use, i.e. carrying stuff, rather than single-occupancy cars all over driver by people blind to the realities of urban transport.
The cyclist shows very poor road sense and should be riding much more defensively. His many "scrapes" show how little respect he has for road markings, road rules and traffic. He gives cyclists a bad reputation. His survival is very unlikely without serious injury. A tad more intelligence would go a very long way but a Darwin Award is almost certain.
Clearly the van/taxi is at fault here but good road sense and hazard perception you should have seen this happening, ease off, and my be sit up in the saddle. A GOOD DRIVER SHOULD NEVER NEED TO DO AN EMERGANCY STOP.
i've seen many motorbikes overtake on the right like that. i don't think its esp. dangerous.
very dangerous are driver that don't look for motor bikes (or cycles) when they are happily using their right to ride on the road. not looking properly all the time is even more serious than speeding i think. it's too socially acceptable as a simple mistake. but if u are alert and careful you need never make it.
I think he just wants there to be no cars in existence .. I think he cycles dumbly and then tries to blame cars to get people hyped up and angry at cars.
@KooKas2oo8 No, car drivers are too shit at their job on average. They don't see 1000KG of metal at tens of KM per hour as something to take seriously, and get sloppy, drive like idiots and fail to see that if there's another option rather than driving, it should be taken, all else being equal. All else usually IS equal - except how out of shape the driver is, being a big excuse not to cycle. Big fail. Funny thing is, this is partly ignorance, but you don't see the bliss on their stressed faces.
I'm both a cyclist and a car driver. The guy filming this clearly has no road sense and is a liability on the roads. And is going to cause an accident sooner or later. In the wrong land and driving in the central reservation. At one point he's even in the lane for oncoming traffic.
@gingleshanks i can understand it looking bad to a novice biker. but it's much safer to overtake on the right when traffic has stopped. all the advanced cycling books mention this. drivers don't look left - as they are always looking out for cars. plus passengers often get out.
Novice? I have a full car licence and a full motorcycle licence, both of which required me taking lessons and passing the appropriate tests. Therefore I am qualified to use the road, and I also pay insurance and road fund licence for the privelage of doing so. Aside from your cycling book, what qualifies you? Mister advanced cyclist.
@gingleshanks sorry i meant novice cyclist, being a mountain biker i often refer to myself as a biker. hope to get a motor bike soon. there i will be a novice for a few years and will take it easy. i've driven many miles in cars, owned a few sports cars and like driving. i do know that cycling needs different skills than motor biking, simply bc you cannot keep you with the traffic. this is what the primary road position is for. hope this helps :)
Cycling like that is a sure way to get yourself killed or badly injured - although in the UK you have full right to the road, you don't rule it, and unfortunately, overtaking like that a foot away from stationary cars would probably count as dangerous cycling.
hmm i'm a little puzzled why you moved out onto the lane for turning right, (42 seconds) then came back into position...then onto the pavemenet!! As a driver seeing you on my right side and in that lane would tell me that your going to turn into the car park....then again I cant see any hand signals from your cams view....maybe you should state on your vids while riding that your using left/right arm signals....interesting vids though!
most places cyclists are SUPPOSED to be in the road with cars. reguardless this guy has shitty riding style, probably thinks it's hip to ride all over the road like a spaz
??? where is the dangerous situation? (any dangerous situation)? You watched where is space and used it, and the others did so too, no close contact, nothing. The car at the last, started to turn, waited fou you to pass, and finished turn... So, if you do not heave the nerves to ride a bike than stop it...
im thinking of getting into cycling, recently crashed the motorbike. To be honest i think i'm more worried about being a target as a cyclist than i've ever been on the moto. I'm tenative about not being able to "gas it" when problems arise.
most of the time cycle lanes are useless either pot holes or stinky busses hogging them in london.they are another stupid govenment idea gone wrong. Maybe if cars and busses were fined for going in them like cars are for going in bus lanes they might be half usefull,
you used the pavement, a right hand turn lane, only bobbed in and out of traffic and the taxi is in the wrong.. cyclist have all got chips on there shoulders and need to sit down and get a life.......................
you sound a tad wound up, maybe ifs because cyclists(like me) can ride all over your roads all day for free? infact I work as a courier, Im out there on your roads making money instead of wasting it on insurnace, petrol, tax, MOTs and so on....
You can't moan about other road users until you use the road properly yourself. You spent half that video riding on the wrong side of queing traffic. Although the final incident wasn't your fault, you could have been knocked off at the start.
I bike and drive to work. So i know how much cyclists piss me off when i'm in the car. But i make sure I dont make the same mistakes on my bike.
The worst near miss experience I've ever had on a bike is when I was doing 37mph down bathwick hill and then a 40 foot truck turned across the road in front of me. I had just enough room to brake to a stop
there are many poor drivers out there agreed, but if your going to show them up i wouldn't film yourself on the wrong side of the road, cycling on chevron markings and also on the path.
This happened to me outside a school once during the morning rush (I was wearing a brand new flouro jacket for the very first time!). If he'd done it to one of the many young kids riding to school, who knows what might have happened? As it was the only harm done was to the bonnet of his BMW which now has the imprint of as Look cleat in it!
There are so many hazard perceptions there, like the guy that walks out, not looking both ways, when this happens to me when i'm driving, I shout out, oi brain dead, wake up!, and the taxi, that's no surprise, taxi's are the worlds worse drivers, especially in the UK.
I like the part where you cut away from the evidence of you cycling on the pavement (could be dual use of course - say so if it's so - it looks like there's space!)
I agree with the others commenting negatively here about less-then-perfect riding skills. The cyclist breaks several traffic laws (improper crosswalk usage at 0:21, lane splitting at 0:25, improper turn lane usage at 0:40, improper crosswalk usage at 0:50, and riding on sidewalk at 0:52), yet points a finger at everyone else in video after video on this website. This taxi driver posed no real threat to the cyclist, so the cyclist should not be portrayed as, or act like, a victim.
@stewartx5 I'm not sure if anyone replied, and it was a LONG time ago, but here's an FYI about UK traffic laws. (I'm guessing you're in north America from your use of "crosswalk", "sidewalk" and "lane splitting" - apologies if not)
In the UK lane splitting = "filtering" = legal. Student drivers learn to check for filtering bikes/bicycles when changing lanes in traffic... of course many do not but that's an aside.
@stewartx5 Cyclist needs to learn road positioning. Also on the road its painted in large white letters CAR PARK ONLY. I've googled it and it's not swahili for "cycle lane" idiot!!!!!!
You can't even PUSH a bicycle across a pedestrian crossing let alone ride across one and you could've got a bus through there!

Please drop the "holier than thou" attitude.

Did you notice how you pulled out when approaching the bus without doing your life-saver? Who cares what cars are coming from behind that you cut up eh?
And besides, the taxi driver braked in time and didn't actually go in front of you.
grahamscott89 5 months ago 7
@grahamscott89 Seems you don't know Cambridge well then. Shared use paths everywhere. This video was filmed using a handlebar mounted camera, so perhaps you could explain how you think you know when I turned my head during this sequence?
mailpauljonescouk 5 months ago
@mailpauljonescouk Maybe you should focus more on cycling because you can clearly see at 0:19 you are turning your handlebars to track that car with the camera.
Besides, it doesn't really matter does it because I see idiot who is filtering far too quickly @ 0:43 you have no idea if someone is crossing in front of the lorry and the same at 1:01 where it's very likely that people could be coming off the bus and crossing in front. You only slowed due to the car and saving your own ass.

@FragGile what has road tax got to do with anything?
mrburnard 6 months ago
@FragGile Road Tax does NOT exist. The Tax disc on your vehicle does not pay for the roads, it comes out of income taxes. So if a cyclist has a job he or she is paying for the roads already! Sadly you are in a majority that seems to believe this myth.
mrwasbesonders 6 months ago
@mrwasbesonders Admittedly maybe it was a hasty comment but i was wound up by videos of cyclists throwing their weight around threatening to upload videos etc of near misses/accidents etc.
The highcode is not strict enough for push bikes, im sick of seeing people riding on the road only to hope onto the pavement and carry on at a red light!

The cyclist is a dick. However, dicks on bikes are much less dangerous than dicks in cars, of which I think there are about an equal amount. Nearly 2000 deaths & 200,000 injuries a year are caused by motorised transport in the UK, compared to only 2 or 3 fatal collisions every 10 years caused by cyclists.
zivkovicable 6 months ago 4
@zivkovicable Lol, thats because bikes don't go fast enough to hurt eachother lol.... Can you imagine a head on collision with two bikes???? Get a life

@chadalopolous I don't get your point. You agree with me, then you tell me to get a life.I live in a city, & I get around way quicker by bike than in my car. During rush hour even more so. Do you think fatal collisions are a good thing?
zivkovicable 4 months ago
@zivkovicable No what I am saying is it is incomparable. You can compare the speed of a cyclist with the speed and weight of a car. I would have no problem with a cyclist on the road if they followed the rules.
chadalopolous 4 months ago
@chadalopolous I would have no problem with a motorist on the road if they followed the rules.
zivkovicable 4 months ago
@zivkovicable The road isn't for cyclists !! I have no problem the governemt spending money building a cyclist lane, ya thats fine. Maybe all cyclists on the road should get insurance and inspections and be treated just like a car!!!
chadalopolous 4 months ago
@chadalopolous No? The road was never for cars either. Horse and carriages ring a bell? You know, because they wouldn't have car horns would they? And what are you going to inspect a bicycle for? 'Spinning wheels and brakes'? Perhaps pedestians should have insurance for crossing the roads? Shoe inspections? The point is cars are not cyclists. When you drive to close you don't just 'clip' a wing-mirror, that's somebodies arm, life.
FindingMozart 4 months ago
@FindingMozart This is such a bad arguement. Ok here is the plan, cyclists have to get insurance to make sure the method of transportation they are using on the road is SAFE. You have to follow the rules of the road when riding on it, so no passing on the shoulder when traffic is stopped. You must have turn signals (with lights) so I can see wtf you are doing. You must keep with the flow of traffic as well because I can going super slow is considered dangerous driving.
chadalopolous 4 months ago
@chadalopolous Insurance doesn't make anything safe. I'm not going to be happy to ride into you just because I have insurance, and if I do? You're more than welcome to start a civil procedure against me, because for a cyclist to seriously leave damage on a car? They're not riding, or walking away, are they? And, use your eyes, indicators are not golden, not even daily car-drivers know how to properly use them. Most road cyclists can cycle at 20-25mph :] Can you?
FindingMozart 4 months ago
99% of cyclists are a menace on the roads, they think they are always in the right but as you have just showed the world you have no regard for rules of the highway code but yet are quick to point the finger at car drivers who have actualy passed a test where as all you have done is bought a bike and set off. why not have reg plates on bikes so that bad cyclists can be reported???

They run red lights, run stop signs, don't obey the speed limit when they're going down hill, ride on the sidewalks, ride in the LEFT lane, and many other things. themanbearpig 11 months ago
@themanbearpig It's illegal to ride on the pavement. The Taxi driver didn't see the cyclist. That's bad driving whichever way you cut it.
dinorizzoni 10 months ago
Ur gonna get hurt and you'll only have yourself to blame.
Nearly had an accident the other day cos of an ignorant cyclist like yourself.
Small pot hole in his path, so he decides to swerve right in front of me. I avoid him but having to swerve myself into on coming traffic to potentially save his life and smash my car. He then has the nerve to shout at me for driving dangerously. I stopped and gave him a piece of my mind but I'm happy I didn't smash his face in, it was the least he deserved
drummaboy64 11 months ago
@drummaboy64 A car might have done the same. You have a duty to give other vehicles enough berth. if you had to swerve it's because you lack driving skills, as well as social skills if you think "smashing somebody's face in" is an appropriate response to surprise while driving.
dinorizzoni 10 months ago
@dinorizzoni So what you're saying is, if I'm driving and I see an obstruction/pot hole in my way I should avoid it by swerving right in front of another car, and that if there's a collision, he's in the wrong because he should've given me enough berth??
drummaboy64 10 months ago
@drummaboy64 Hi drummaboy. No, what I meant was in relation to your comment about the cyclist. You should give cyclists a wider berth than you might think necessary when overtaking them because they may swerve. If you hit a large pothole with a bike you may well come off, so cyclists try to avoid them. Regarding the incident above, it looks like everyday riding to me - the taxi was doing a U-turn and spotted the cyclist, braked. No harm done. In my experience most drivers do their best.
dinorizzoni 10 months ago
@dinorizzoni No need to state the obvious, I do give cyclists more room than necessary because from experience I know they're prone to stupid acts of carelessness. The fact that I did so and this cyclist managed to find himself in front of my car by suddenly swerving so far right into my path and cut me up is what was wrong. I can't understand how you fail to see that, do I have to draw you a picture? Cyclist should've slowed down, waited for a gap between cars and gone round when it was safe.
drummaboy64 10 months ago
@dinorizzoni Please tell me you're joking?? What a nonsensical reply... I don't know if you lack common sense or if you're just retarded but it's definitely one of the two. I tell you what would be 'appropriate' for you to do now, get on your bike and ride off a cliff.
drummaboy64 10 months ago

And if the traffic is stationary, and there is enough room at the side of the road, it is better to go at the side of the ride, rather than in the middle...

you overtake at junctions (illegal)
you ride over hatched lines (illegal)
you ride on the pavement (illegal)
and i assume this is a helmet cam (or you cant keep the bike straight in which case stick to walking) and if it is then you never performed one lifesaver backward glance (you would know what this is if you knew how to ride a bike legally sand safely)
GizmoRyder 1 year ago
@GizmoRyder Overtaking at junctions and zig-zags is only a "technical" breach when the traffic you're passing is stationary/crawling. The law even acknowledges this and says people aren't guilty of an offence if it is technical in nature.
That is true for cyclists and drivers/riders of motor vehicles.
Sorry.
I'd consider the "hatched lines" part legitimate filtering.
thirteenfingers 1 year ago
@thirteenfingers nonononono. the zig zags are there to alert you that it is not safe to overtake or filter across them....not that its okay if you think the giant tonne of steel is going too slowly. thee hatched lines are meant to keep junctions, crossings and slip roads safe from idiots like you.
GizmoRyder 1 year ago
@GizmoRyder I'd typed a response about technical breaches but decided to look further.
Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002
Section 28 defines the "no overtaking" rule at zig-zag lines.
It explicitly addresses "motor vehicles" so please disregard everything I've said previously and replace it with "it is completely legal for a cyclist to overtake at zig zag lines"
...for the win.
See my following post for a sound destruction of the hatching "offence" people are weeping about.
thirteenfingers 1 year ago
@GizmoRyder Right - onto the hatching.
Hatched areas are addressed in section 130 of the current highway code (formerly 109)
ONLY when the hatched area is bounded by solid white lines (unlike the broken lines in the video) is it an offence to enter that area.
Entering a hatched area may (not in this case - it was necessary for filtering and safe) contravene an advisory part of HC Section 130 which would be considered in establishing liability in an accident but regardless is NOT an offence.
thirteenfingers 1 year ago
@GizmoRyder And just because I'm in the mood to do so... I'm going to go against my usual approach and return an insult - mainly because you seem like the kind of jumped up fool who needs it.
I only wish there was some way of using hatched lines and zigzags to keep the comment boxes, threads, the internet in general and the roads safe from idiots like YOU.
The kind of idiots who assume they know the law, when they don't, and abuse others when they disagree.
Goodnight.
thirteenfingers 1 year ago
@thirteenfingers i draw your attention to the 5 comments above this agreeing whole heartedly with me. you're a menace to sensible road users.
i am a motorcyclist and believe me i know the laws about filtering and safe overtaking.
the point is if i ever see a cyclist riding like that then i'll remove him from the saddle regardless of speed or how many hgv's are going to run the twat over.
GizmoRyder 1 year ago
@GizmoRyder You respond to cited law with *opinions* of other culeless people? Get real!
You're a MOTORcyclist. You may know the law for MOTOR vehicles (though not about hatched areas with broken lines) but demonstrate beyond doubt that your understanding of the law for cyclists is poor.
There's a reason some rules are universal and some limited to motor vehicles. Bicycles, are NOT "a menace" to other road users.
Now stop making internet-hard-man threats and grow up. You just sound silly now.
thirteenfingers 1 year ago
@thirteenfingers cyclists are legally road users and are bound by ALL LAWS as motor vehicles. please filter past traffic illegally and then ride in the pavement with me on the pavement and that will be the end of your journey. simple.
fucking clueless pedalphile
GizmoRyder 1 year ago
@GizmoRyder Cycles are vehicles... not MOTORvehicles.
When a law doesn't specify it applies to all (unless something is given a specific exemption elsewhere).
When a law specifies "motor vehicles" it applies to MOTOR vehicles. A child could understand the difference.
That fact that you either can't understand that makes me think you're half way to brain-dead. That helmet of yours might be a bit too tight.
Come on internet-hard-man. Cite a law to back up your bullshit.
thirteenfingers 1 year ago
@GizmoRyder "i know the laws about filtering and safe overtaking"
A clear and testable claim.
I've cited law to show that a cyclist overtaking at zigzags is legal. I've given you Highway Code refs to show that using those hatches to avoid the door zone when filtering is legal (*maybe* advised against AT WORST).
You've responded with "5 other people agree with me" which means nothing.
If you're right - cite.

Tricyklist 2 years ago 2

very dangerous are driver that don't look for motor bikes (or cycles) when they are happily using their right to ride on the road. not looking properly all the time is even more serious than speeding i think. it's too socially acceptable as a simple mistake. but if u are alert and careful you need never make it.

gingleshanks 2 years ago 3
@gingleshanks i can understand it looking bad to a novice biker. but it's much safer to overtake on the right when traffic has stopped. all the advanced cycling books mention this. drivers don't look left - as they are always looking out for cars. plus passengers often get out.
bivvyfox 2 years ago

Nothing with a top speed of over 4mph (that's for mobility scooters) is allowed on pavements in the UK. So no bikes.
Roads aren't intended for cars. They are intended initially for horses, then cycles, and most recently motor vehicles.
The reason cars have to pay a tax to use the roads is because they do not inherently have the right, unlike bicycles and horses.

??? where is the dangerous situation?

Ha ha,
You can't moan about other road users until you use the road properly yourself. You spent half that video riding on the wrong side of queing traffic. Although the final incident wasn't your fault, you could have been knocked off at the start.
I bike and drive to work. So i know how much cyclists piss me off when i'm in the car. But i make sure I dont make the same mistakes on my bike.

its illegal to cycle on pavements

In England? What the hell? You'd rather have cyclists going 20mph one feet away form queueing cars while changing lanes as they please?
Sick.
latuman 2 years ago

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Cyclists should pay tax to use the highway , slow down and read the highway code you're an accident waiting to happen .
hobby700 3 years ago
There are so many hazard perceptions there, like the guy that walks out, not looking both ways, when this happens to me when i'm driving, I shout out, oi brain dead, wake up!, and the taxi, that's no surprise, taxi's are the worlds worse drivers, especially in the UK.
markhorneyuk 3 years ago
A lot of badly informed comments!
Drivers can moan all they like, but in the UK it's legal to filter up the line - in fact Motorcycle Roadcraft, the police riding manual, endorses it.
Out of this whole video, only the pavement riding was wrong (unless it's for a bike path - that's not clear to me).

I love how all the cyclists on youtube with videos make the rules up as the go along, how can you even begin to complain riding like that.
CaptainKidd2006 3 years ago
You ride too fast slow down!!!!!!!!!!!
englander1971 3 years ago
I like the part where you cut away from the evidence of you cycling on the pavement (could be dual use of course - say so if it's so - it looks like there's space!)

I agree with the others commenting negatively here about less-then-perfect riding skills. The cyclist breaks several traffic laws (improper crosswalk usage at 0:21, lane splitting at 0:25, improper turn lane usage at 0:40, improper crosswalk usage at 0:50, and riding on sidewalk at 0:52), yet points a finger at everyone else in video after video on this website. This taxi driver posed no real threat to the cyclist, so the cyclist should not be portrayed as, or act like, a victim.
stewartx5 3 years ago 25
@stewartx5 I'm not sure if anyone replied, and it was a LONG time ago, but here's an FYI about UK traffic laws. (I'm guessing you're in north America from your use of "crosswalk", "sidewalk" and "lane splitting" - apologies if not)
In the UK lane splitting = "filtering" = legal. Student drivers learn to check for filtering bikes/bicycles when changing lanes in traffic... of course many do not but that's an aside.
0:21 *may* be end of shared-use path so legal.
0:40 = filtering again.

@stewartx5 Cyclist needs to learn road positioning. Also on the road its painted in large white letters CAR PARK ONLY. I've googled it and it's not swahili for "cycle lane" idiot!!!!!!
