You know as much as they are not the best sounding peal in the world they are unique and you can pick them out any time and to replace them wiht a modern ring would in my opinion be "criminal.

The best sounding peal in my extremely humble opinion would have to be York Minister..

@topshed34a Despite them maybe being a little buckety, I do like them - they are so characterful, and one of THE sounds of London... to hear them in the flesh is quite magnificent!!

When you say 'Liverpool', which 12 do you mean? The Cathedral do become a drone very quickly, but I believe Pier Head are fantastic (Taylors 1952). I don't St. Paul's are a brilliant 12, but they sound rather nice here due to the superb striking.

Exeter, now there's a nice 12!! Newport Cathedral are also worthy of mention as they sound so grand yet weigh a mere 21cwt, about half the weight (if that) of all the other 12's being discussed here!

But Bow, Worcester are York are all good.

St Mary RC Cathedral in Sydney are also superb!! Ive rung there - lol - Im bragging!!

@simonbellringer yes, lincoln are very good, but I wouldn't put them as high as redcliffe, york, worcester, exeter etc :)

@bellminsterboy In their weight category, Lincoln are amongst the best!! Though for 12s on the whole, no they dont compare to the others you mentioned!!

@simonbellringer Bow, Jewry, St Clement Danes, York, Worcester, Liverpool, Coventry and Southwark to name just a few that are better than these.

York, agreed, they sound glorious!!

Liverpool... I cant see what people see in those, I think they're a bland, monotonous, dreary drone when all 12 are going!!!

Southwark are debatable; some like them, others hate them!! I personally like them, but still think these are better!!

What have people got against St Pauls anyway?
