A lot of musicians perform this way when they are older. Most of these guys can't belt out and hold the notes like they used to. Thats why they try to make it sound almost overly poetic by doubling up the timing of there singing etc. Its sad cause you can tell he wants to sing how he did in the day but physically can't any longer.

@musclekid13 Hes hitting all the notes he used too. The song's highest note is A4 and he hits it everywhere it occurs except in the first verse where he always sang it one octave lower anyway. I think its just a stylistic thing, maybe he thinks it appeals to the younger generation. I've heard guys in their 20's with Robert Plant-like ranges sing like this, so I think that has noting to do with it. You're just selling him short, I think. He hasn't lost half as much as you seem to think.
