I was raised on the Guy Lombardo version of this great tune. See Frankie and Johnny (1947) by manhatin. Interesting how Guy changed the lyrics to make the song more palatable for a family audience. For example, in Guy's version, Frankie goes to the drugstore for some ice cream, not the hotel for a bucket of beer! Thanks for a great post! :)
Thank you so much for posting this. I used to listen to this version of it on an old 78 rpm record player with my Dad when I was about 3 years old in the early 50's and it always used to make me cry! I didn't know whose version it was we used to listen to, but as soon as I heard this I recognized it as the one. :-))
I love this song! I have it on an X Vault LP called "The Gay Cabellero", but it's great to hear (and see!) it on 78. Has anyone posted Crummit's "Sweet Alice"? My 78 of that one is almost inaudible.
