love this video along with all the other Bill Evans videos and recordings. Marc Johnson plays great. I just recently stumbled upon the Bill Evans album called Intuition. I highly reccomend it. Just Bill and Eddie Gomez on bass. It has a great mix of electric and grand piano. Bill sounded great no matter what he playing. Thanks for this video.
Was playing in the US Army Showmobile traveling band at the time I had a friend ask me, "Have you ever heard Bill Evans and Scottie LaFaro?" and then played "Autumn Leaves" from them and I absolutely fell out..... used to play that with a late pianist from Erie, Frank Lauria.... we did a duo for five years in Erie until he passed away.... Now I hear the "Consecration" CD, another MUST HAVE.....
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Johnson two weeks ago together with Eliane Elias. He was terribly good beyond expectations. It was nice to know that he was part of the legendary trio...
@Ouellette1978 yeah i have to agree. plus bill was still evolving and this really was his apex despite him being ill. i hate to imagine what kind of amazing stuff he would have gone on to do if he wasn't cut short.
ok, necessary. if you care to read the previous posts, I think I will just listen to Bill Evans instead of people who attach so much importance to what is a totally pointless debate. I would suggest you get a life.
this discussion really has no future - if you are OK with profanity, it makes no real difference in the scheme of things. there are other things that are more important. I think I will just enjoy listening to Bill Evans
@basher999 well we agree on something. next time try not to be so stuffy and just allow other people to honestly express their appreciation and excitement for music without trying to stifle and ruin their enthusiasm with your conservative nonsense. it detracts from the excitement people feel and makes you come across as a buzz kill.
@bgoodwinster I know what a choice is, and I'm sure BillyC15 does too. and most people choose not to use vulgar terminology when writing about serious music. but if that's what you like, great, go with it.
@basher999 i always wanted to ask someone who makes a point of asking people to not use "profanity", why do you ask people to not use profanity? personal preference? why do you want to change someone else to suit your own preference? is it your conservative prerogative?
Is this from the concerts he gave at the Keystone Corner a few days before he died in September 1980 - incredible performance... check out the Consecration set for those last performances
Marc Johnson; a fantastic bass player! It's amazing how much Scotty influenced the following Bill Evans bassists' ability to interact with Bill. That's what makes the Bill Evans Trio so magical. The interaction is LaFaro's legacy.
I'm not sure who the bass player is, but I love the tone quality that bass has.... and he must have it going through an amp of some sort to get that full of a sound.... I'm really jealous.... I wish and that's all it is, I could have sat in on one of Bill's sessions..... that would have been my shining hour.... What ever happened to Buddy Prima? Budwood... one album and he quits? Pianist from New Orleans....
Great Trio!!! Fabulous!!!!

Check out Bill's incredible right hand voicings in his intro. And how he swings so hard in his solo.

can someone please explain to me how that guy gets such a perfect sound out of the bass? seriously
bgoodwinster 7 months ago
As being a listener of practically everything Evans has done in my opinion this was the best trio, these guys were an all-star team

@basher999 I would suggest that you stop talking while Bill is playing, I can't hear him over your prattling.
