yep ducks are real dangerous. need a really big gun. espeacialy when they poop on the porch.of corse now days there really dangerouse to jets, and if it wernt for leagle duck hunters there wouldnt be near as many of them .ducks not jets.
I don't know...this seems a truly lazy and cowardly way of hunting. I can't see any self respecting hunter using something like that. There is no skill involved. You simply fire an artillery piece into a group of unsuspecting prey. Might as well just use grenades.
@peri2502 "There is no skill involved" - You try manoeuvering a 17 to 23 ft boat within 60 yards of a group of duck (anything further is out of range), in the cold the wind and tide WITHOUT BEING SEEN:- then you'll understand where the skill is. These were predominantly used by people trying to make a living in the absence of much else and they were damn close to starvation doing it. Read some books.
@otthebot So that's where the skill is...I'm not impressed. Besides, you don't need to blow a bunch of birds to pieces to get that kind of challange.
I can see that people might have tried to make a living by such means in the past. That is a different story, but how does that apply to today? I can see it being little more than a hobby and you just don't need to shoot a dozen ducks for dinner.
Hey isn't that one of those newer high tech stealth gunboats ? Imagine the feeling of the enemy at the sight of a magnificent fleet of 1,000 of those !!!
@kjun13 wasn't meant for hunting in the sportsman sense, this was hunting to feed a community, the punt gun was a tool of the trade, as much a tool of water fowlers as the pole, hook, and net was to a fisherman.
Given how military naval technology has advanced since the 19th century, it's a shame nobody has dared giving ship-to-ship missiles a civilian use. Yet.
Gun? That thing is a bloody cannon! Would be an awesome feeling. IF not for the damn greenies. Of course using that baby on an animal rights activist might also be fun!
Your enthusiasm for... Being an eco-troll I guess is what we would call you? Any way... is inspiring. Like what... do you spend hours each day looking up videos of things that go against your tree hugging ideals just so you can make some dumb ass comment that no one is going to give a shit about any way? Here is the facts. Humans are not the only animals that hunt and frankly I think a bullet is more humane than a predators fangs.
Being a local who visits the museum reguarly and subscribes to the Royal Armouries page, you'd automatically assume I randomly look up photos to abuse?
I'm not even that hugely ecologically minded, I'm not a vegitarian or vegan.
This is a comments page, not a 'say somthing that will be popular' page, I will comment on what I bloody well think. Humans don't need to hunt anymore is my point, we have industry for that, any more is needless surplus.
@kurisu925 nigga plz, i dont do shit. i just chong in da book palace blazin a dime of da finest davils and loading ma smith n wesson - cause no muva fukin pigs think to look for a crackers there. i never seen a tree in my life nigga, i just smoke em... dont test me. chat shit get banged... peace
@fp470 Are you an idiot? "An awesome feeling"? I have nothing against hunting, but god damn, if you're going to kill things at least be fair about it. You might as well be lobbing artillery at them if you use one of these.

Punt guns were used for market hunting, the birds were not shot for sport, for instance the birds feathers would be used in ladies hats etc.

not very likely as the bore size is illegal in several countries. as well as wildlife laws and regulations on hunting.
although i would love to have a chance to shoot a punt gun.
