Erm... Even if this did happen (F/A-18E killed F-22 in exercises) it would most likely be luck accented with skill, as it is a small chance they'd even see it, and they are physically limited by their aircraft to how they can pilot them... Great work though by the pilot. Should be proud.

Even though the Sukhoi 30 MKIs is different that the F16 and possibly superior to the F-15 they had one common denominator with the Greek F-16s. They both used JHMCS. The Indian pilots used the FIRST EVER edition(RUSSIAN) OF THE JHMCS that gives the ability to shoot at a target Visually through the helmet as the Greeks did..

Hellenic Air-force does it yet again. They have just won all the combat exercise in the latest NATO military exercises held in Spain last week April, 2011.This is on top of the other big win which was RED FLAG 2008 where they destroyed US Air-force in a kill ratio of 18:3. @hotpocketpoison I thought that the Irbis-E could detect a F-22 from 80-90km already.If it can detect it from only 32km away, then I suppose that the opposing aircrat loses.However, if the case is as I mentioned above, a Su-35BM would easily win.
@gtamodman122 the Irbis-E can supposedly detect a 0.01m2 target from 90km away,however the RCS of the F-22 is anywhere from 0.001 to as low as 0.0002m2 which is far beyond the detection capabilities of the Irbis-E from any kind of effective range. so yes,if it could detect the F-22 from that range then it would win,however the actual range it can detect the F-22 at is immensely lower than 90km,and by the time it does detect it the F-22 would have already engaged it with its 6 internal AIM-120s.

@hotpocketpoison I have serious doubts about this F-22 thing anyway, since I know that the USAF really hesitates to put F-22s in such exercises, and I have few reasons to believe that it was put up against our air force.I'd ike to say, however, that even if it had been put up against our F-16s, I have every reason to believe that the F-22 is not unbeatable in this case, and that kills on it can definitely be confirmed.
@gtamodman122 in WVR combat any pilot piloting any aircraft can get lucky and get a gun kill. but in BVR combat it is much different, at that point it is not about pilot skill but about the aircraft he flies, so from BVR the F-22 is truly unbeatable, but in WVR it can be shot down by guns just as easily as any other aircraft(but not as easily by missiles). but with the F-22s exceptional maneuverability and trust vectoring engines it stands a much better chance of surviving than other aircraft.
@hotpocketpoison The F-22 is not unbeatable in BVR.The F-16 definitely cannot do much against the F-22 in BVR, but any plane equipped with a powerful radar and with missiles with longer range than that of the AMRAAM can stand up against it.And in Red Flag, from what I know, BVR fights are not carried out very frequently.

There are no "winners" or "losers" from NATO exercises, all sorties adhere to strict ROE (rules of engagement" and mission perameters where scenarios are acted out with predetermined results. Aircraft are not put against each other in a free for all fight, anything you read that hints at that comes from aviation journalists doing their best to sell magazines as they know its what you want to hear. NATO exercises are about training pilots, theres no my cocks bigger than yours outcomes.

@hotpocketpoison I thought that the Irbis-E could detect a F-22 from 80-90km already.If it can detect it from only 32km away, then I suppose that the opposing aircrat loses.However, if the case is as I mentioned above, a Su-35BM would easily win.

@gtamodman122 the Irbis-E can supposedly detect a 0.01m2 target from 90km away,however the RCS of the F-22 is anywhere from 0.001 to as low as 0.0002m2 which is far beyond the detection capabilities of the Irbis-E from any kind of effective range. so yes,if it could detect the F-22 from that range then it would win,however the actual range it can detect the F-22 at is immensely lower than 90km,and by the time it does detect it the F-22 would have already engaged it with its 6 internal AIM-120s.

@TheSubzerogr το F-22 είναι η λάθος λύση στο απλό πρόβλημα.Οι Αμερικάνοι θέλαν νέο μαχητικό με στελθ και φοβερά ραντάρ και δε ξέρω γω τι άλλο και κατέληξαν με ένα μιγιάγγιχτο πανάκριβο τενεκέ που κερδίζει μόνο σε BVR και αυτό γιατί είναι στελθ.Από όπλα, ίδια με το F-15.Το T-50 είναι η απάντηση, και ελπίζω να τη δούμε μια μέρα στην Ελλάδα.

@hotpocketpoison I have serious doubts about this F-22 thing anyway, since I know that the USAF really hesitates to put F-22s in such exercises, and I have few reasons to believe that it was put up against our air force.I'd ike to say, however, that even if it had been put up against our F-16s, I have every reason to believe that the F-22 is not unbeatable in this case, and that kills on it can definitely be confirmed.

@gtamodman122 in WVR combat any pilot piloting any aircraft can get lucky and get a gun kill. but in BVR combat it is much different, at that point it is not about pilot skill but about the aircraft he flies, so from BVR the F-22 is truly unbeatable, but in WVR it can be shot down by guns just as easily as any other aircraft(but not as easily by missiles). but with the F-22s exceptional maneuverability and trust vectoring engines it stands a much better chance of surviving than other aircraft.

@hotpocketpoison The F-22 is not unbeatable in BVR.The F-16 definitely cannot do much against the F-22 in BVR, but any plane equipped with a powerful radar and with missiles with longer range than that of the AMRAAM can stand up against it.And in Red Flag, from what I know, BVR fights are not carried out very frequently.

There are no "winners" or "losers" from NATO exercises, all sorties adhere to strict ROE (rules of engagement" and mission perameters where scenarios are acted out with predetermined results. Aircraft are not put against each other in a free for all fight, anything you read that hints at that comes from aviation journalists doing their best to sell magazines as they know its what you want to hear. NATO exercises are about training pilots, theres no my cocks bigger than yours outcomes.
