  • My gymnastics coach taught me that one too. It's an awesome exercise. But although I can pop about 12 of those, I still can't do a front lever... :( I can hold it for 5-10 sec, but I have to bend one leg, like a pussy...

  • Wow.

  • coach, i looked at the link you provided in the description... and i am currently really trying to build up my strength and i feel that front lever puuls could really help... but unfortunately i can't do one...what kinds of exercises could i use to build up to it?

    thanks

  • just practise on the front lever. you could to tuckholds and that stuff, but my experience is that isnt gonna save you some time. just grap the bar, kick your feet out and try to hold your body straight on the way down again.

  • His front lever pulls are amazing!!!

  • i have those same shorts

  • YEHH

  • un pezzo di legno!!

  • By the way Coach thank you for your book. In years past I could barely do a pull-up when I was working with weights, plus certain muscles on my body are getting pretty thick, like my triceps and forearms and shoulders.

  • I've seen a lot of these videos with great skill. (that I want to be able to do one day) There's one thing that bothers me though... why does this guy wear goggles? No offense if he has some sort of eye problem, I'm just curious.

  • I think those are prescription sports glasses that he's wearing.

  • Oh, that's what they are. Makes sense :p

  • maybe he does not want his identity to be known?

  • Coach Sommer,

All your videos are great, but almost everyone of these exercises require lots of strength to begin with, so I can only do a few of them.

Are you going to post some kind of "beginner" videos? With exercises that could help me, and others, build the strength we need to do more of the exercises in your already posted videos.

  • Excellent question! My website, book and DVDs are the resources where you may access the progressive exercises which you requested.

    Yours in Fitness,

    Coach Sommer

  • @marmin88 Get the book! The progressions on each exercise are incredibly accessible to beginners (like myself).

    Seriously, buy the book!

  • the best thing is to balance streanht and resistence, well anyway respect to the kid.

  • I do acrobatics and when i started gym, its been a much easier time mastering moves. Dumbell curlers and people that do weights have easier time learning bodyweight moves. (i dont mean bodybuilders, if you notice the olympic weight lifters arent that BIG)

  • I believe we all understand but what you say is just not true.

  • Wait, I know what Noleiber is trying to say. He's stating the correct point that weight training does allow for great gains in maximal strength. Just look at Olympic weightlifters. I, however, still support bodyweight exercises since they're so much fun and equally beneficial.

  • Thank you for the quick response coach. Indeed, as you said, gymnastics built strength not only in their own movements but in other motions as well, so I hope my back muscles will not lack in power, built and definition if I abandon the bent over rows for front level pulls. Thank you again.

  • Coach Sommer, do you believe that if one is capable of pulling bodyweight in completely straight front level pull up, he could also pull his bodyweight in bent over row? My lower back hurts from bent over rows and I want to replace it with front level pull ups which surprisingly feel very comfortable and pain free (on the lower back only ;-) ). But I wonder, will I became as strong in pulling as someone that pulls his weight on bent over row, all other things being equal? Thank you in advance.

  • Great question, but I am not a weightlifting coach and honestly couldn't tell you how the two would compare in final terms. I think that we can all agree however that the results with my athletes to date have been exceptional. It is interesting to note though that people skilled in high level gymnastics exercises have little difficulty quickly becoming very strong in traditional weight lifting movements, but the reverse is almost never true.

  • aren't these icecream makers

  • @long1468

    no man, they're gymnasts!

  • @asdf2000

    He meant the excersice, lmao.

  • @ericds33

lol of course im just bein funny

  • @asdf2000

Oh ok, sorry, my sarcasm detector wasn't working. =)

  • that is a very biased point of view you got there, sure its more true a gymnast will quickly progress with weight training, because of the simplistic nature of it, and obviously a weight trianed athlete will strugle with gymnastic exercises, but that is also partly due to the skill aspect of these moves,

  • @lion8dragon it is much much much easier to row your bodyweight than to do a front lever pullup

  • Excellent, great form, awesome strength. keep these videos coming my kids at the Y love then it gets them rocking!!!

  • I am really loving all the new videos and posts, coach! Truly an excellent thing you're getting into.
