@Mr1UPshroom actually I thought your comment was an intelligent, if partial, observation about modern music (where I differ is that I like the disjointedness!), as well as an honest statement of opinion that didn't try to pass itself off as the last word on the subject or resort to the usual youtube ranting. In short, the hallmarks of mature contribution to a discussion! (and from a young person in their second language!) Best wishes from the UK
@Mr1UPshroom ..cont...Perhaps more work is needed to play Baroque since the listener can easily detect bad phrasing within its tonal and rhythmic framework, while modern music allows sloppiness because it is often intentionally discordant & if it sounds "wrong" then it can be put down to the "listeners fault". But this is not to say modern music cannot be equally well-performe or requires any less "understanding" of the piece/time of composition. Regards
@Mr1UPshroom I see what you're saying but don't agree. Modern music is (often) disjointed (although there is much cohesion too). This is part of the appeal for me. Given that assessing the "poetry" of an aural medium is a subjective exercise, for me this music is the poetry of modernity. Not less or more poetic, but different.
I love modern music. I'm a huge fan of Jolivet, Dutilleux, Messiean and others. Despite this, this concerto does not resonate with me. I dislike it intensely. Pahud is a wonderful player, though.
@Yaoming70 My god! if you don't like the ibert concerto, you sure don't like Jolivet's concerto... nor Milhaud, Dutilleux sonatine etc... well Finally, do you really like the flute? XD The flute is a modern-contemporary instrument because of it's repertoire! it has a large baroque-classical repertoire too, but the modern repertoire is much more important for the instrument. Get used to recent music, and fast!! :P
i saw pahud perform this, where did you get the recording because it is by far my favourite interpretation! i am playing this at the moment.... yeh its hard!
I love Ibert, I think he is one of the most impressive composers of the French school in his period. This concerto in particular is very well performed.
