Im a yankee in the south, i know if i send 1 or 2 up, the rednecks around me will call the police and say that there ufo s. I want to do this, need to take a trip to radio shak for LEDs.
sehr schön, mir kam letztens die idee auch leds in so einem luftballon zu stecken, zur partydekoration... halt mit rgb leds.... aber euer silvesterknallerersatz gefällt mir auch sehr gut ;)
I did that at my GF's party we had heaps of them with flashing LED's inside, it was great, the kids started beating them so we let them go the sky was light with floaties
goog idea use a led that is the manifetation of the energi in form of ligth and warm into a ballon full of helium, a material high inflamable jajajajaja
what age are you living in?? no batteries have mercury in them anymore.
the latex is biodegradable and the batteries and led will rust away. the lithium in the cell will react with oxygen in the air/water and form harmless compounds.
ok im not even going to try and guess the odds of a balloon landing in a whales blow hole.. what are you thinking??!??
If you used them outside, they will eventually fall down to earth and hit something .... forget about the fish and the mercury and cover you own head....
Been doing this since July '07 at Endif gigs, starting with the Reverence festival in Madison, WI.
Battery. Tape. LED. Stuffed into a balloon, filled with helium, tied off. Fill a couple of plastic garbage bags with them, release at the start of the set. They flicker when they get near the speakers.
Kids like to bust em open and take the throwies once the helium stops working..
Cool to see so many at once, and free to fly as they will though.
This should not be done outside. Apart from anything else, the button cell batteries contain mercury and are poisonous to the environment and in any event, how would you like one stuck in your throat if you were a sea creature?
I've seen luminescence made from Mountain Dew, baking soda and peroxide. Maybe that would be a more eco-friendly display. Also, I read that we are headed towards depleting our (non-renewable) supply of helium.
@ron808 Actually, helium is made in laboratorys using the alpha radiation process. an alpha decay gives off helium nuclei! So really, lack of helium isn't much of a problem.
Did something like that with green glowsticks once. I tied them loosely together with about 10 foot lengths of thread. I think I sent up 4 or 5 larger balloons altogether. The thread made them sort of swirl around each other slowly but they always stayed together. Looked really eerie and quite cool. I set the helium level just enough so they would drift more laterally than vertically.
cant see shit when you release them

PEOPLE!!! I REALLY NEED AN ANSWER ON THIS QUESTION REALLY REALLY FAST. IS IT THAT BALLOON COULD SNAP BECAUSEOF THE HEAT OF THE LED???
bbollie 8 months ago
@bbollie LED's are famous for being light sources that don't give off any heat at all. So no , the LED's won't heat up and the baloons won't snap.
cLick1333 8 months ago
@bbollie no,led doesn't release enough heat

The balloons are seen by real space aliens. The aliens freak out and deploy their dooms day weapon and destroy the Earth.

How long do the LEDs stay on? like on a button cell battery?
bmxstreet6 10 months ago
@bmxstreet6 sometimes a week, sometimes a little bit less, depends on the current draw of the LED and the quality of the battery.
uberscientist 10 months ago
@bmxstreet6 Just get A Lithium Battery C 2035 ibelieve but any Cell lithium battery should work.

Do you have any idea how large a whale's blowhole is? They're typically 8-10 inches, way to large to be blocked by a piece of rubber from a ballon.

helium is a natural resource and therefore would be gone right before our eyes or our great grandkids eyes.
that's a very old news about helium. the supply is getting weaker so suppliers have to hike the prices.
ron808 4 years ago 6
@ron808 no helium is ever used up though? its just put back into the atmosphere where it started?
